About this property

Waterfront cabin/Military discount/ Kayaks/ Fire pit/ beach/No pet fee/ deck

The Mainley log cabin is our magical escape from the summer heat and traffic at home. We do share it for a few months out of the year because it is too good not to share! We have filled it with local art, and vintage treasures that capture the spirit of the bold coast. You will have to look a long time to find another coastal property as well maintained and comfortable at this price! We just had a beautiful new deck built in April 2025 that looks out over the bay. We have no pet fee, a 10% weekly discount, a 2 night minimum stay for off peak season, and the cleaning fee is very low at $100. We offer a 10% discount for active and retired military, law enforcement, and first responders , just message us before making your reservation and we will add the discount for you. We know that times are hard right now so we work to provide the best value for your hard earned money. The Mainley is a true log cabin, rustic, but very comfortable with an elevated view of Cobscook bay and Moose Island. It is perfect for nature loving couples or families of 4, with a king bed in the loft , 2 single beds in the downstairs bedroom, and one full bath with a walk in shower . The cabin is right on the water and gets the cool breeze from the bay so there is no air conditioning just the oil furnace for the chilly mornings and nights. If you are looking to escape the big city life for a little while and connect with nature you will love it here. No pet fee, no weight limit on dogs. We do insist that you have your dogs on a lead everywhere on the property except for the beach because we have porcupine and coyotes in the area. Also please do not leave your dogs alone on the porch or in the cabin to bark and disturb our neighbors. We have a very reasonable and flexible cancellation policy because we understand that sometimes things come up and we make exceptions for health & family issues and weather. We have large dogs, so we understand the frustration of not being able to find accommodations that allow dogs over 80 pounds. All well behaved dogs welcome, up to 3 dogs per booking. We accept well behaved cats upon request as well. Our cabin is furnished with big dogs in mind. It is unreasonable to ask that your dog stay off of the furniture, so we have sturdy, covered, easily cleaned furnishings. We fell in love with the massive Lubec tides, the water birds, and all of the wildflowers here and we are sure you will, too! Reserve the perfect dates for next summer now because the calendar fills up quickly with returning guests. A recent guest described the Mainley best by saying " if you want a Disney type vacation this is not for you, but if you want to commune with nature in a relaxing clutter free space this is perfect." The cabin is at the end of a long gravel driveway and is about a quarter of a mile off of North Lubec Road. It is located close to the end of the North Lubec peninsula. The location feels very remote and is surrounded by thick forest, but it is only 6 miles to the town of Lubec. Lubec is a nature lovers paradise, but the restaurants are limited, close early, and there is no night life. Summer activities shut down at the end of September, but the natural beauty of the area is still amazing. The beach is downhill from the cabin and the short walk may be difficult to navigate for older guests even though we have a wide paved path. The Mainley shares a secluded beach with 2 smaller cabins. The cabins are far enough apart with trees between them to maintain some privacy. Our cabins are pet friendly so you may see or hear another guests pets on the beach. If you are allergic or simply do not like pets our cabin will not be a good fit for you. The Mainley cabin has an open concept main floor with 20-foot ceilings, wood burning fireplace, large deck, screened porch, a smart TV with Spectrum basic cable, 200Mbps high speed internet and WIFI. Our cabin is a clean, rustic, but comfortable, place to relax and read a book (we have lots of them) or just enjoy the view and the sound of the tide coming in. Watch the rise and fall of the massive, 20 plus foot tides, from the elevated deck that runs the length of the house. Bring your paddle board or use our kayaks and explore the bay. To use our kayaks you must sign the waiver form in the welcome book. Walk on the rocky, beach in front of the cabin, and watch eagles, gulls, and seals. We highly recommend the whale watching tours with Down East Charters, that runs from June too mid-September, from Lubec. The guide is funny, well informed, and touring the coast lines of neighboring islands is breathtaking. This home is equipped with everything that you need for relaxing getaway. The kitchen has plenty of counter space to prepare fresh seafood, while the easy-to-use appliances and lots of cooking equipment make vacation cooking easy. Plenty of outdoor chairs to enjoy the view and a screened porch for relaxing without the bugs. To use our exercise equipment you must sign the waiver form in the welcome book. With all of the wonderful hiking trails in the area and the kayaks you will not need exercise equipment! This is not a suitable beach for swimming because current is too strong and the water is always too cold. No smoking and please return all TV equipment to its original settings if you make any changes.

The house was a beautiful rustic, log cabin perfect for a couple alone or with children. We brought our two Bernese mountain dogs. The cabin was very dog friendly and we appreciated that. It was also really well appointed they had everything we needed to make our stay very comfortable. I would highly recommend this property.

I’ve stayed in many Vrbos/AirB’s all around the world. This rental made it to my top 3 list, simply because it has everything you could ever want. It’s truly a hidden gem and thats great for anyone who already knows about the charm that Lubec has. The home itself was extremely clean. The kayaks were easy to use, and you can’t beat the view of the sunrise every morning out the windows. Especially if you sleep upstairs in the loft like we did. I’m telling you straight up, there isn’t a better rental in the town of Lubec, this is by far the best in the area. I’ve been coming to Lubec every year for the last 6 years just to give you some background.

Amazing place

This is an amazing place in a beautiful location. Our 2 standard poodles were with us, and this is easily the most dog-friendly place we've stayed. We enjoyed the large deck, and the comfortable screened porch. And the stars through the large windows and skylights! We live in Maine, and always enjoy being in Washington County, but this trip was special.

One of our best experiences.

Not only is the property in a beautiful setting, but very comfortable and dog friendly. The owners take into account everything you might need and more. Property managers very helpful and attentive. The best part is the ocean access and view that can't be beat.

Slice of Heaven

I wish I could write a negative review so that I can have this place all to myself. This is our second time coming to Mainley Cabin, once in October, and once in May and each time has been perfect. The owners, the manager, the house, the town. Everything is perfect about this place. Hoping to call Maine home someday.

Wonderful

This was one of the best properties I have stayed at. The location is quiet and beautiful but more than that the owners are very gracious and accommodating. A couple questions I had they really jumped through hoops to help. You will not be disappointed if you rent this property.

Great place to get away from it all

One could not ask for more helpful, thoughtful hosts than Tony and Dottie. The cabin had everything one would need for a worry free vacation and they were always available to answer questions, give history of the area or just chat without intruding on your personal privacy. The cabin was spotless, the views magnificent and the area fun to explore. A great vacation for sure. You

Our Favorite Vacation!

Our trip to Lubec and at this cabin was by far the best vacation our family has taken. Lubec is such a sweet little town and the house was absolutely perfect. The house was spotless when we arrived. The setup is beautiful with the perfect loft area overlooking the water. The kids had the best time kayaking and walking the beach each day. It was so worth the long drive and we can’t wait to come back next summer.

Restful & Lovely

We had a lovely time staying at this property — the view is impeccable (sunrises through the window in the morning from the bedroom), meals on the porch, reading and relaxation on the hammock, firepits and shooting stars at night. My communication with the hosts was timely and effortless. They were incredibly helpful and warm. There are a couple of other smaller camps on the property (not in eye distance from the house) but we had several friendly run-ins with others as they made their way down to the beach. Not total seclusion but damn near close. Thank you for a lovely visit. A much needed rest - now back to work!

Solitude found in Cobscook Bay

I don’t even know where to begin! Our stay was amazing! The location is so peaceful, and the indoor space, as well as screened in porch, and deck really invite you to kick back, relax, and take in nature. The views are breathtaking. The cabin was so clean. As a neat freak, I appreciated small touches like Clorox wipes left near the peloton and in the bathroom. We were traveling with our 3 dogs, and when we got there, there was a crate filled with useful dog items during our stay. I just thought that was so sweet. We were also traveling with our two teenage Sons. They loved the use of the kayaks for fishing and exploring, and hanging out on the hammock. We found great seaglass!! The kitchen was well appointed, even supplied us with things to make s’mores with, which I though was so thoughtful! The details of this home, and the decor added a warm, cozy, and welcoming vibe! The hosts were awesome and responsive, and kudos to Carla for managing this property immaculately! We will be back!

Welcoming, stress-free accommodations with views that dreams are made of...

Over the years, my husband and I have rented many cabins and cottages for our vacation getaways. We can honestly say that Mainely Cabin was one of the best and most enjoyable accommodations for us to date! We arrived just after check-in, so the sun was still up, but the porch lights were on for us in case we came in late. Inside, we were welcomed by a spotlessly clean living space, a very well appointed kitchen, and even a welcome basket for our pooch! The ceiling fans were spinning, keeping the fresh air that drifted in off the bay circulating throughout the cabin. The king-sized bed in the loft was as comfortable as our own bed at home (and that's saying a lot). From bed we had a view out the enormous arched windows on the back wall of the cabin, and we watched a palette of sunrise colors every morning. Outside, a rack of like-new kayaks were ready to be taken for a paddle at high tide. The paths as well as the wooden stairs down to the beach were impeccably maintained, and at low tide the beach combing yielded an interesting assortment of rocks and sea glass. We were also delighted to discover several wonderful hiking spots within striking distance of the property (Klondike Mountain surprised us with a good workout for the glutes). Damon and Jamie are incredibly responsive hosts, and we never felt neglected. Carla the property manager is warm, friendly, and helpful. Our vacation here was so easy and comfortable that we'll be able to look back on it as one of our very best times away from home!

More then met my expectations! Pictures cannot show how beautiful this cabin and its grounds are! I arrived about 7:00 pm - just past sunset and when I went into the house a preachy-golden glow was coming through the large windows that face the bay. The paths that led to the other two cabins - which are a good distance away so we all have our privacy - were lit with lovely lights. The entire impression was of ferry lights and my dog and I walked on the trails and saw the other cabins. Any of the cabins would have made a lovely stay, but this one was incredible. We were blessed with a perfect weather week and one day I just sat inside for a couple of hours, just staring out the skylights - watching the clouds float through the blue sky. There was also plenty of outdoor seating as well - and we sat on the deck and different areas of the yard watching the bay There is a staircase that takes you down to the beach and my dog and I walked down there every day. When we arrived, there was a welcome package with ingredients for s'mores and chips and cookies. The place was immaculate and had everything we needed. Every day my dog and I walked on a different trail (sometimes two or three in one day). We went to Eastport, the revering falls, the lighthouse and the downtown Lubec area. But I could have stayed in that house the entire time and been happy!Highly recommended - especially if you love walking, nature and peace!

We decided on a peaceful, far away, get away for our 28th wedding anniversary. We also needed accommodations for our dog. We found the "Mainely Cabin" and it was essentially perfect. This is a tranquil place directly on the bay. The beach is accessible by stairs. We are avid kayakers. I was planning to bring ours but discovered that I could use our hosts' kayaks. Perfect because the stairs leading to the beach are about a 20 second walk from the cabin's front door and the kayaks are stored adjacent to the stairs. We spent virtually all of our time, near or in Lubec or Eastport, out and about enjoying the countless outdoor recreational opportunities. The main bed in the loft is comfortable. Kitchen is well supplied. The deck is excellent. Washer and dryer work well. The stargazing is awesome. The water is damned cold. Seriously, bring a wetsuit if you want to swim or go check out Reversing Falls in your kayak. Highly recommend these hosts and this cabin retreat on the Canadian border.

Quintessential!

If I praise too much, I'll not be able to find rental time windows in the future, so I'll keep it short. This is the best place to rent in coastal Down East Maine...full stop. It is for us, at least. Decide what you want before you start searching for a summer rental: A camp...minimal accomodations, perhaps even an out house; A cottage...more or less complete with a small home feel; A summer home...this is what Mainly is...complete and comfortable in every way, and you can simply let the rest of the world slide off your shoulders. Clean, comfortable, accomodating, welcoming, highly useful, everyting works well. Enough said.

Peaceful, quiet, beautiful cabin in the woods

We are so happy we came back for our second year at the cabin! October was the most perfect time to come. We spent our days hiking the trails around Lubec and walking the beach at the cabin. The kids loved kayaking and roasting marshmallows on the fire. Once again, the house was spotless when we arrived. There were games and snacks for the kids, treats and things for the dog, and toiletries in case we forgot anything. We absolutely love the peaceful location of the cabin, and can’t wait to come back next year!

A Perfect Dog-Friendly Getaway on the Water!

We recently had the pleasure of staying at this gorgeous vacation rental, and it was everything we hoped for and more! First and foremost, being dog-friendly was a huge plus for us. Our four-legged family members loved exploring the spacious yard and the beach. It was so nice to have him with us on this trip! The property itself is absolutely beautiful, with stunning views of the water that you can’t get enough of. We spent the mornings sipping coffee on the deck, watching eagles, and taking in the serene surroundings. Inside, the cabin was welcoming and cozy. The bedding was so comfortable that we slept well every night. Everything was well-stocked, from kitchen essentials to cozy blankets, making us feel right at home. Overall, this vacation rental exceeded our expectations in every way. We can’t wait to return for another unforgettable stay! Highly recommend!

We were looking for a summer house on a lake, but when we saw this location it was love at first sight! The first night that we stayed at the cabin we found the guest book and realized that our cabins were the summer getaway for many people already. We decided to continue to share this secluded, beautiful, place with others. Our goal is to provide a place for others to create happy memories.

Why they chose this property

Location! When we first arrived it looked like a moss covered forest and then we saw the wild, rocky beach. It is so quiet and private and the stars are so clear with no light pollution from any large city.

What makes this property unique

The bay is alive and is always changing. The colors, and the light are always different and exciting. Wildlife viewing is one of our favorite pass times. Eagles, seals, blue herons, huge pileated woodpeckers, and the occasional porcupine, can be seen.

Premier Host

They consistently provide great experiences for their guests
