We absolutely loved our stay! The cottage is so beautiful, and the views are lovely. We loved sitting on the sun porch, looking out the windows at the river, the ocean, the beautiful flowers, and the birds. It was a great location to stay in order to visit Campobello, hike at West Quaddy lighthouse, and to go whale watching out of Lubec. We hope to come back someday!
Best vacation we've ever been on. The house was really cute with very comfortable beds. The renovated kitchen had everything we needed. The sunroom off the back with the view of the river and the dunes was the real star of the show. We spent our mornings drinking coffee and reading and frankly just staring out at the beautiful landscape. The walk to the beach was quick but it is a bit of a walk so as other people noted in their reviews take note of that if you have small children. But once you get there the beach is sandy/rocky and perfect. We searched for sea glass and even took dips in the ocean.Lubec is a lovely little town, definitely recommend the shops and local restaurants. A visit to Campobello island and a whale watch and trip to see the whirlpool are musts. Big thank you to our hosts for providing such a wonderful place to stay! Well definitely be back!
Lovely picturesque quiet location. Walks on the beach were beautiful. Cottage was decorated in classic Maine vintage which I love! Thoroughly enjoyed Campobello, Quaddy Head State Park, and Lubec and everyone was so friendly. Thank you!
We enjoyed our stay at this delightful cottage with lots of personality, a postcard view and everything we needed. It didn't feel like a rental but like we were welcomed guests in someone's home. A true gem!
We absolutely loved our stay at The Sanctuary. We had everything we needed for a peaceful and relaxing vacation . I especially loved the decor. Just enough decorations to not be visually overstimulating or cluttered in the cottage. The furniture and beds were very comfortable! We practically lived on the porch and on the beach. Thank you! Gorgeous property in gorgeous location. Cottage had everything we needed to be self sufficient for the week. Notes for parents with small kids: the walk to the beach is alongside the creek not the road so think about what you want to carry, upstairs where the twin beds are are skylights and the sun rises very early this far east- travel blackout curtains might be helpful.
Hosts were great people, easily accessible and knowledgeable of the local area. Check-in was a breeze. The cottage had all new kitchen appliances and TV while maintaining its original classic Maine cottage character. The property was expansive with wonderful views of the marshland, tidal river and ocean. Easily accessible to downtown Lubec, West Quoddy Light and Park, and the many trails of the Cobscook properties. We highly recommend staying here.
We had a great stay at the cottage while in the area for the Bay of Fundy Half Marathon. Not only was this a good location for race weekend (it is also on the course) but it was a great launch point to Campobello Island and beyond. We also did day trips to Eastport, Machias and more with ease from this location. We loved admiring the beautiful art throughout the cottage and I enjoyed having my coffee in the sun room each morning. The beach was a short stroll from the cottage where my toddler loved chasing the seagulls and walking far out at low tide. This was our first visit to Lubec and we are hopeful to return to the cottage in the future to explore the surrounding area a bit more and to run Bay of Fundy race again. Alan was a wonderful host who was responsive and friendly. Thank you for a wonderful trip, Alan!

Thanks so much for staying with us and for taking such good care of the cottage. Come see us again sometime!
Charming Home with Stunning Views and Thoughtful Hosts
Charming little home with stunning views and easy beach access—perfect for a quiet retreat. The space is small but comfortable and thoughtfully uncluttered. We especially appreciated that there were no strong fragrances—everything felt fresh and clean without being overwhelming. The home technically sleeps five, but the living room is better suited for two to three people. The TV is large, though only two seats offer a great viewing angle. The sun porch was our favorite hangout spot, with comfy furniture and room for five. The kitchen had just enough for simple meals—minimal pots and pans, but functional. Beds were comfortable, linens were high quality, and while the blankets were a bit stiff, we brought extras from home. The bathroom was very clean and seemed recently updated, with soft, new towels. Having a washer and dryer was a big bonus. The host was incredibly responsive and kind. A couple of items listed were missing on arrival, but they quickly delivered what we needed—even purchasing new ones, which we really appreciated. We loved clamming at low tide, watching wildlife, and exploring nearby small towns and trails. The local market had everything we needed, and a larger store was just 35 minutes away.Highly recommend for anyone visiting Lubec who values peaceful surroundings, nature, and wonderful hosts!

Thanks for staying with us and taking such good care of the house and for your thoughtful comments!
As you mentioned, most guests lounge in the cozy four-season sunroom, but with an oversized upholstered sofa and arm chair, the living room also seats four comfortably. At your suggestion, we did add a few things to the kitchen The cookware includes a new anodized aluminum set, a smaller Le Crueset set and a lobster pot. The bed in the master bedroom includes a comfortable quilt and down comforter and I’ve just ordered new down quilts for use on the upstairs beds on cool fall evenings.
Thanks again for visiting and we hope to see you again!
Beautiful property, great location and super clean. Hosts were kind and handled small details to make our stay more enjoyable. They brought us extra beach chairs and screens for the porch. Huge awareness to make our stay better!
