Angelhaus, at Purgatory Village
My wife, 17 yo daughter and I stayed this weekend. We've stayed in several apartments in Purgatory Village over the last 20 years, but never in the Angelhaus. It's 150 yards from the Purgatory Village Express lift, which is great. The building is probably 40+ years old. Physically, the apartments there are tired appearing, but the small apartment is functional. It really could do with a bit of TLC. Dusting the corners, a good floor scrub, new paint and a few new touches would bring this out of the 1980s into the current era.
The TV, fridge, microwave and oven/stove all work. The 4 cup coffee maker is standard, but small. Knives are dull, so be careful. The counter top/bar has 3 swivel chairs, but really fits just two. That counter top is the only dining surface. It is about 3 1/2 feel high--higher than a standard counter top, and a challenge for smaller persons, I'd think.
The Pull-out bed is satisfactory, but the sofa and chair, and stools are dated and aged. When using the pull-out sofa bed, there is very little space in the living area.
The master bed is satisfactory, but bring your own pillows--those provided are credit card thick. Bring your own clothes hangers. There were about 10 there. Storage was plentiful. There is no iron/board.
The bathroom was standard. No hair drier is provided.
Heating is by electric floor registers that work well. It leaves the rooms very dry. We went to Durango, 25 miles south, and purchased a humidifier which helped a lot. Adding the wood stove really dries it up.
Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. The walls and ceiling are thin, so the sounds of your neighbors are very noticeable.
Wi-fi has a low signal, and is best in the bathroom.
A fire alarm sounded Sunday afternoon. It's in the hallway, and was very hard to hear. We left the room rapidly, and stood around. Someone "turned it off" but no official came by to check with us or to explain. As it became clear that nothing was going on, we went back inside. The Property Office voice mail was full, and no one picked up the phone when I called.
We recognize that there are many nicer rooms to be had. Overall we found the room adequate. We might consider renting it again--the value is pretty good compared to similar rooms in the Village. I hope the information helps those future renters to plan their trip to Angelhaus in Purgatory Village for skiing, hiking, biking, sightseeing, and other great adventures.
Great place and a great price
Easy to book. Easy to find. Great place overall.
My son and I stayed at the condo on our way to California and we were extremely happy with the property and the location
Comfortable and affordable
Comfortable unit at an extremely affordable price. Our time was spent hiking and enjoying the area. The unit met our expectations and needs.
Great location and comfortable for the two days
Great location! A little dated interior but then we were not spending much time inside. Did enjoy having the wood stove, but might want to leave some instructions on how the venting works. We did fill the place with smoke the first time. Would have been nice to have liquid dishing wash detergent so we didn't have to run the dishwasher for the few dishes we had, but not a big issue. Overall, great place for a quick weekend away.
