About this property
Spectacular Mountain Views, Near Asheville, Big Decks, Private, Big Vistas, WiFi
The house is perfectly fine. It was not damaged by the hurricane in September 2024 at all! The surrounding area and the community where the house is located are absolutely fine as well.
We haven't had any reviews since the hurricane because no one has stayed here or rented the place except myself, friends and family. I think people are wary because parts of the area were hit so hard.
To be sure, in Asheville and the surrounding area you will see areas of devastation, and a few places remain closed, but in most of the area it's back to normal. Restaurants and retail are open. And the mountains are as beautiful as ever.
We would love to have you stay here. Do you want to relax & enjoy one of the best long-range views in western North Carolina? Yes, those photos are taken from the house!
Do you want to be in the woods and in a safe, private wooded setting but still be close to town? The Asheville area has a lot to offer, but you might not want to leave the house.
The home is an up-to-date, very well-kept, very well-equipped, comfortable, spacious, two-story home in a private mountain community just 13 miles/20 minutes from all of Asheville's charm & attractions. It's easily accessible year round, but still secluded. The elevation of the house is 3,450 feet and affords one of the area's most spectacular long range, year round views.
Enjoy the view from the 1,000 square foot, multi-level, wraparound deck, or from inside the home. Set on three quiet, wooded acres of mountain laurel, rhododendron, oak-leaf hydrangea, blackberries & many other native species.
The house is full of artwork and craft from local and regional artists and from the owners' world travels. There are dozens of pamphlets and books describing the many things to do nearby including The Biltmore Estate, The Blue Ridge Parkway, some of the best and most famous hiking trails in the world, and all the wonderful food, art, and music Asheville has to offer!
The deck is huge and that's where the views are. There's a hot tub, a grill, lounge chairs, Adirondack chairs, and a dining table and chairs. You may never want to leave the deck. It's perfect for morning coffee, evening cocktails, or al fresco dining.
Asheville has excellent food of every type, many live music venues, art museums and galleries, antiquing, and every type of shopping. Local craft, art and music are easily accessible. Asheville isn't too big or too small. It's just right!
The driveway to the house is a little steep in two spots, at the entrance which is paved, and about halfway up the driveway. It's a safe, well-maintained gravel driveway. Every type of vehicle is able to get up the driveway easily. A four-wheel drive vehicle is not required except during heavy snow or ice storms. Check the reviews and you'll read that it's not an issue. If you have questions please contact me.
Unfortunately the house is not set up for younger children. It's not unsafe by any standard, it’s just suitable for adults.

About the host
Hosted by David
I'm recently retired after working 17 years at Emory University in Atlanta in the Communications and Marketing division. I was born and raised in Jacksonville Florida, but I've lived in several places in the US and a few places overseas. I currently split time between the Asheville area and Atlanta. My family has been coming to the NC mountains for almost 60 years and I have family in the Asheville area. I'm a potter and printmaker.
Why they chose this property
I bought this house because the views are spectacular, the area is beautiful, and it's nestled in the woods. It's very private, but it's also close to Asheville which has always been a fun, interesting and creative town. There are some many outdoor and indoor activities in the area.
What makes this property unique
This is a magical, private, rejuvenating place. It's amazing how absolutely quiet it is. It's beautiful and comfortable in all seasons. It's our vacation home, too so it feel like a home, not a rental. We've been renting the house for over 16 years and some of our guests have been coming back every year for over 10 years, which should tell you something about the place. It's amazing to be in a place with fast WiFi, hundreds of TV channels, but also feel like you're in a private, quiet wooded environment.
