About this property
A-Frame cabin located on the shores on lake Independence.
Beautiful A-Frame cottage on the sandy shores on lake independence. Great location with easy access to the lake from your own private sand beach. Relax in a hammock and enjoy the sound of the waves or take out one of the 4 kayaks for a lake excursion.
For those who like to take a more relaxed approach to their vacation, The Thunderbay and Lumberjack are located in Big Bay and they are both open for lunch and dinner.
You can take a short drive to The Big Bay Lighthouse which has tours of the grounds as well as a guided tour to the top of the lighthouse.
There are also plenty of hiking trails for all ages. The hike to the top of the Thomas Rock is short and sweet but provides incredible views of Lake Superior/Lake Independence and the Big Bay Area.
Just steps from the cabin you can hike the Iron River which leads you to the beautiful untouched beaches of Lake Superior. There is also the Yellow Dog River hiking trail which lead you to the amazing Yellow Dog waterfalls.
Crams general store is also located in the heart of Big Bay. They provide anything from groceries, fishing license as well as bate and tackle and everyone’s favorite part... Soft serve ice cream. : )
Please reach out with any questions you have about the cabin itself or the Big Bay Area.

About the host
Hosted by Ryan

My name is Ryan Walker. I am from Nashville Tn and I recently relocated to Marquette Michigan. I purchased this cabin in 2018 from the original family who built it in the 50s and have been in the process of giving it a facelift. Once I was finished I took a year to enjoy it myself before deciding that it would be selfish of me to keep it all to myself. Hopefully this will be the first of many rentals that I have in the Big Bay area.
Why they chose this property
This property has everything you could ask for in a lake home. The cabin has such a welcoming feeling and the lake is always just the right temperature for lounging in a raft. You can fill your day with a variety of fun activities, like fishing, hiking, kayaking, or just relaxing in a hammock to the sound of the waves on the sand beach. The lake has almost zero boat traffic making this an incredibly private destination that’s perfect for a romantic getaway or just a good place to unplug from the usual day to day.
What makes this property unique
This cabin is split into two separate living spaces. The bedrooms, loft and a living space are separated from the kitchen and another living area by an insulated door. This provides a great amount of privacy for those that prefer to sleep in or if you have small children who need those few extra minutes of their afternoon nap.
