Breakwater Cottage has it all….convenient and updated amenities, surrounded by open ocean and harbor activity, a comfortable space to relax and reflect..
This is an amazing ocean front property. The house is very well stocked with all the necessities. It has good energy and is very welcoming. I highly recommend this location!
We had a wonderful week on Matinicus! The house is fantastic with a great location, is well equipped and very clean. Natalie was an exceptional host/ambassador to the island. Everyone we interacted with from Capt. George, to Andy to Eva and all the folks we met were all welcoming and friendly. Just a great experience!
While Matinicus Island is not a bustling vacation spot, that is exactly what makes it so wonderful. Breakwater cottage is the perfect spot to unplug and enjoy quiet lazy days in Maine. The cottage itself has more than enough space to spread out and relax; beds are comfy, kitchen is great, internet reliable and sunny or shady spots to sit and watch the fishing boats come and go. The beach is a short walk, the bakery a good opportunity to stretch your legs and the kids had a ball with the bike riding freedom they had! I really hate to leave once I get there, but a neighbor told me the day you leave Matinicus brings you one day closer to your next visit. I like that thought.
Fantastic Location ~ CLEAN ~ Fully Furnished With Everything You Need ~ Easy Access To Everything Matinicus Has To Offer & Fresh Lobster Delivered Right Off The Boat To Your Front Door.
Natalie, John, Phil, Andrew, George & Everyone Else We Met On The Island Made This A Magical Experience That We Will NEVER Forget & Hope To Repeat Again.
We Give It A BILLION Gold Stars & Think You Will Too!
The house is great. The location is right in the main harbor. Andrew could probably selll the location more. Then the house set-up - great for our family of 5 with two teenagers. The kitchen is very nice - might be able to use a few more cooking accessories. The place was clean and many parts updated.
But 7 days on an island off the coast of Maine - no stores, no restaurants with teenagers might not be for all. Matinicus is a special place and we loved the experience. Make sure to research and plan (we did well on food but forgot cash). Andrew provided some information but we found some other rental sites that had a wealth of tips and information
Staying at this home was a truly unique experience. You get to be front and center to a working harbor far off the coast of Maine. The caretaker was very helpful in putting together travel arrangements on and off island- boat or plane were options. The home is very well equipped and planning is required to bring all that will be needed during your stay. There are three bedrooms and one bath upstairs- it would be hard to choose a room to use because they all had amazing views. The bedding was lux and more than ample for open windows with night sea breezes. The night sky was dazzling, the lobstermen start their day before the break of dawn, everyone met was lovely and kind. There really were no drawbacks to this location- a special thank you to Andrew for making the experience possible as there are not many rentals on the island. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful relaxing getaway- you have found the right place. There are two marked hiking trails on the island, two sand beaches and so many rocky coastlines to explore, you will not run short of activities. The outdoor shower is not to be missed. There is a television in the adjacent cottage, not the main house, but we found it was not needed at all during the stay. There is a large lobster steamer pot that was put to good use- lobster delivered fresh to the door on request. There was a mid-week market, a bakery with a daily selection too. Definitely worth a visit.
