We had a wonderful stay. The house we had so much fun with the kayak and paddleboards at Donner Lake. The hosts were great with communication and left excellent instructions for using all of the amenities.
Absolutely love this house, the location, and the property owners are super helpful! This is our 2nd year renting their property, and we'll be back for a 3rd next year!
This was a great home base for our quick ski trip (we went to Tahoe Donner downhill, Tahoe Donner cross country, and Palisades). The bedrooms are comfy, the kitchen is well stocked, and everything is in good working order. And the espresso machine is an awesome touch. The cabin is right on Northwoods but set back so it doesn't feel like you are right on a busy road--ideal for us since we didn't have AWD and wanted to have a better plowed road.
This cabin was the perfect winter hideaway for our family of 5 over the weekend to play in the snow and escape the confines of “distance learning”. EVERYTHING is very updated and clean! Each bedroom has a cute theme and the bathrooms are gorgeous. The kitchen is perfect for cooking family meals and has every amenity that one would find in their own home. The two car garage is perfect for those snowy days to keep your car free from piles of snow and the HOA plow service is very reliable making the driveway easy to access. The owners were very responsive to texts and they have helpful informational tags throughout the home. We would definitely stay here again; thank you for your hospitality!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Bear's Den. The house is beautiful with lot's of great amenities and details throughout. We hope to stay here again in the future!
Perfect cabin for our family. Awesome yard for the kids to play in the snow, and the inside was really nice and modern. If available, we’ll be back next year!!!
Very nice clean house. Liked the firewood and wood stove. Great location. Very glad for modern amenities such as car charger in garage. A few more kitchen items such as broiler pan and larger cutting board would have been nice. Would definitely stay here again.
Bear's Den is so comfortable and well-equipped. Neil is the perfect host - generous and responsive. We enjoyed our 6-day stay very much, especially the fire pit table on the back deck and the various outdoor seating areas. Neighborhood is secluded, quiet and lovely. Love the two big TVs with all of the streaming services, too. We would definitely stay here again.
We had a wonderful stay at this well appointed and cozy cabin. Everything from the beds to the fixtures were very high quality. Also appreciated the clear instructions and labeling. Hope to come back soon!
We had a wonderful stay at the Bear's Den. The location was great as the house is set back off the road, but is only minutes from town. The house was very clean and cozy, and well stocked with supplies. Everything was clearly labeled with concise directions on their use (e.g. the 4K TVs). We slept really well as the beds were incredibly comfortable (much more comfortable than our beds at home!), and the linens were really soft. Our hosts, Beth and Neil, were super responsive to our questions which was greatly appreciated. We would absolutely recommend staying at the Bear's Den.
We loved theme of the property, surrounding, maintainability, cleanliness. Only issue we faced was hot water. During our stay, in the morning at 8 when we were about to take bath, we came to know that hot water is not coming and we tried reaching Property Manager immediately. The issue got resolved in the evening 5. Which took almost a day to fix. But good part is we got snowfall in the morning so we spent the day without taking bath and our kids can play with the snow throughout the day.
Outstanding property - as advertised. Clean, and extremely organized. Owner did a great job leaving accurate instructions around the house - that was appreciated. Overall well above average - thank you.
We were looking for a well equipped and modern cottage, and luckily this was available. Property had just gone thru a remodeling and it was very nicely done. This is ideal for a single family vacation with three bedrooms, but works also well for other combinations. Usually we gear up with a lots of our own stuff, but in this property you really don't need to do that. Kitchen has everything you can think of. This really feels like you would be in a cottage you own, rather than a property just to make money. Owners were super responsive and the Internet connection worked very well for remote work. We truly hope that future customers will treat the property like they own it to keep it in this great shape! A bonus point comes from the "mining" theme decoration. :)
The cabin is warm, cozy, and inviting. The kitchen is newly renovated, well-stocked, and spacious. The rooms are cozy with very comfortable linens. I would highly recommend this cabin.
Beautiful, very comfortable, super clean and newly remodeled
The place is gorgeous! It was perfect for our stay. The beds were soo comfortable, and the bed linens high quality and pretty. The bathroom showers and toiletries/towels were luxurious. We had everything we needed and more - the kitchen was stocked with spices, cooking oils, breakfast items, but we didn't even get to use them - this time. The cappucino/espresso machine was a surprise and a treat! We were very appreciative. All the appliances and furnishings seemed brand new, high end, comfortable and tastefully appointed. We enjoyed the wood-burning fire place, with lots of stocked, seasoned firewood, easily accessible. Big screen TV for your enjoyment. Garage with sledding toys (we didn't have a chance to use them, we brought our own any way, but so nice for the owners to share!). We also enjoyed the artwork and furnishings, featuring vintage Tahoe and California history. We appreciated the maps of the surrounding areas - and the ability to snow-shoe, cross-country ski, hike, and alpine ski within 10 minutes or less. Snowplay equipment for rental, and many restaurants and other services within minutes drive - yet the home feels like it's in the woods and is surrounded with beautiful big trees. Highly recommend. Check-in was flawless - everything worked exactly as described.

About the host
Hosted by Neil Michel
We are a family four (five if you count Bruce, our pit bull). We live in Davis, California and spend as much time in Truckee as possible. We love snowboarding, Nordic skiing, and biking. We care for our cabin like a second home, and enjoy sharing it with family, friends, and travelers.
Why they chose this property
We chose this spot in Tahoe Donner because its a quiet part of the mountain that is close to the skiing and trails. We love the south facing windows during the Winter, because the sun warms the main room. And Tahoe Donner is just amazing with all the amenities - always a fun adventure!
What makes this property unique
The thing we like most about The Bears Den is the wrap-around decks. During the spring, summer, and fall, we spend a lot of time spread out between the front and back decks, lounging around reading, talking, and laughing. Being together in the forest is always time well spent.
