About this property

The Mother Lodge - Cozy Cabin on the Creek

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE BOOKING THIS CABIN. Water in this cabin comes from a hand pump and there are no shower facilities.

Step back in time into over 700 square ft of coziness! Before you even enter the front door, the massive screened in porch welcomes you to this charming cabin on the Hersey Creek. The main floor has a kitchen with a hand pump, gas stove and oven, toaster oven, coffee maker, mini refrigerator, and a table that seats 4. Plates, pots and pans and cutlery are also supplied. The living room has comfy chairs and a sofa as well as a wood stove for chilly nights. We supply the firewood.

Upstairs a bunkbed and one single bed as well as a full size bed are snuggled into a spacious area which has a sliding door wall and porch over looking the creek. Like to spend time writing or drawing or even, working? There are two separate desks both with natural light in addition to the light from the door wall. Wake-up to the view of deer or other wildlife stopping by the creek for a drink. Enjoy coffee on the screened in porch. While able to sleep a total of 7, Mother Lodge is also perfect for a couple or a solo journey. Mother Lodge has electricity, an indoor toilet and tub (but no running water to bathroom, buckets are provided), hand pump for water from the kitchen, full-kitchen, wood-burning stove for heating, and a large screened-in porch. Don't forget the marshmallows! The fire pit also overlooks the creek and is perfect for a relaxing evening.

Wi-fi is available upon advanced request. Please get in touch before your visit if you want to use the wi-fi hot spot.

As an Eco-spiritual retreat center, we encourage our guests to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Walk the trails or labyrinth on our 35 acres or those on the neighboring 90 acres. We share the opportunities to wander with our friends to the south Morningstar for a seamless experience for our guest and theirs. A second larger labyrinth, spirit wheel, and wailing wall are also on the property to the south. Overall 125 acres of woods, creek, gardens and places to wander await you. The Fred Meijer White Pine Linear State Park is only a few steps away an is a paved path way of over 90 miles stretching from Grand Rapids to Cadillac. Plan a bike excursion and stay here half way!

We're located about a mile down a dirt two track road. Parking is available in front of the cabin in the circular driveway. Four wheel drive or snow tires are recommended in winter.

I live on the property and am happy to come down and meet you to go over the workings of the cabin or answer any questions.

Ashton Corner Store is just 5 mins away and about a mile and half south. The town of LeRoy is about 5 miles north of us and has a small market along with a few restaurants.

We trust that as you make the choice to join us for a time of retreat, you recognize that there are inherent risks to being in the wilderness and to retreating in simple, rustic cabins. It is your responsibility to take the necessary precautions and use wise judgment while in the cabins and on the land.

In addition, the cabins and land have been tended and held as sacred space for over three decades to serve those seeking healing, wholeness, and love. As you join us for a time of retreat, we hope you will join us in honoring this history by relating to the cabins and land in a thoughtful and respectful way.

Please use the “Wilderness Ethic” and pack out what you pack in including all trash. "Leave no trace."
All guests booking are required to have proper identification for all guests staying at the listing. If you're not able to be validated reservation will be cancelled. Wi-fi available upon request.

Deceiving
It was not listed as a pioneer cabin. There was no running water , so you couldn't shower . We had to flush the toilet by dumping buckets of water into it . There was no microwave even though it was miles from anywhere to pick up food so you couldn't heat anything up .. you had to get up every few hours to put wood in the stove so we had no heat the next morning. Was were charged a cleaning fee even though we were asked to pull all the bedding , sweep ,vacuum and take our own garbage .. not to mention filling all the buckets back up before leaving.

Beautiful space filled with love
You can just feel the energy sometimes in spaces, and when you walked into the cabin, you could feel the love that it has been built with, treated with, and cared for with. Angie and Izzy were a delightful welcome and I enjoyed walking the labyrinths on the property. Having a hand pump made me appreciate the work that it took our ancestors to have access to clean water and it’s an experience I am grateful to have.

In November 2020 we became the owners of 35 acres of what was previously known as MorningStar Adventure Retreat Center. MorningStar Adventure Retreat Center is our neighbor to the south and we share our walking trails and features with each other so that our guests and their guests can continue to have the experience of the whole 125 acres as they have in the past. Founded in the 1980s this property has been used as a place for peaceful reflection and recreation for over 40 years.

Why they chose this property

This property has a calming effect on those who visit. It is both peaceful and fun. Perfect for the family get away, the romantic weekend or the personal retreat. The walking trails are well marked and the creek is beautiful.

What makes this property unique

Classic old world charm of the cabins, beautiful views in every direction. We are located just a few feet from the 90 plus mile long White Pine Trail Linear State Park which is a paved for biking, roller skating, and hiking.
