About this property

Mountain Hall: Unique Historic Cabin w/Large Deck

Mountain Hall was built in 1902 by John Rosborough and a neighbor as a music hall. Rosborough was professor of music for many years. People would gather for conversation and performances. Updated for comfort and usability, Mountain Hall still retains its unique charm. It features one-of-a-kind lighting and furnishings. The great room is an astounding 40 X 20, two stories tall, and includes an enormous fireplace, multiple couches and chairs, a 10 person handmade wooden dining table, and a loft with hand hewn log railing and small viewing deck. The 40 ft front porch has views toward Long's Peak, and plenty of seating. Kitchen just got a facelift with granite counters and new sink and faucet. Bedrooms are small but adequate. Bed 1 – king, Bed 2 – queen, bed 3 – twin, loft – 2 twins, living room – full sofa bed. One bath on the main floor. Second bath is in the basement with outside access. Gas grill. Three miles to Rocky Mountain National Park entrance.

Staying in one of our cabins is not like staying in a hotel or resort where you are surrounded by many other guests. It is your own space. Our property sits outside of town by RMNP, away from congested areas, with individual cabins. Here, you can take in the beautiful views and relax in the peace and quiet.

Historic Details
Our small family group appreciated the historic detail and decor. The rock fireplace was huge! Utensils for roasting marshmallows would have been nice. We sat on the scenic porch each evening. There were so many comfortable places to sit and relax. Very happy to see the addition of the granite countertops. The cabin was the perfect combination of private and conveniently located. We saw a few deer on the property during our stay. We would absolutely recommend this cabin and would happily stay again.

Great stay
The good points: Spacious common areas, with comfortable seating - the living room, dining, and porch. Lovely views from the porch and hot tub, and a stream nearby that you can hear when outside. Everything seemed clean and smelled fresh. With the windows open, the house was cool and there were plenty of fans. Plenty of pillows, towels, and blankets. The neighborhood was quiet. The two bedrooms were small but adequate, but the smaller one opened into the kitchen and into the bathroom, so it was noisy and you had to squeeze to get around the bed. All mattresses were comfortable, including the sofa bed. The down side: for adults, sleeping in the narrow loft or the curtained room off the kitchen were not great, but we knew this going in. The room off the kitchen had no heater and was cold at night (temps in the 40s). Floors are very creaky - light sleepers heard every step.

Historic hall turned cabin with large great room.
This is a large hall but pretty rustic. Lots of historic charm but not well appointed. There were bats in the entrance to the extra bathroom under the house, mice in the main house making appearances, the beds not comfortable, tiny kitchen, and due to a heavy rain, the back bedroom flooded soaking the carpet on all our personal belongings and clothes that were on the floor. The parking was barely adequate for 2 cars and access tricky past the other guest cabins. The great room heater controls did not work so the great room was hot during the day and cold at night as it’s not insulated which we knew when we rented it. We did enjoy the great room space and large front porch but much of the cabin is in need of repairs and updating. A better property to visit and appreciate for the historic rustic charm then to stay in. We will not rent it again unless the conditions are greatly improved.

What makes this property unique

-We require a signed rental agreement as part of the booking process.
-Wifi is very limited. It is shared with the cabin next door. Signal can be found from the dining table and deck. We are working on a better solution.
-The second bathroom is in the basement with exterior access only.
-This cabin has limited parking spaces. No more than 3 vehicles. No RVs or trailers.
-Hot Tub is shared with one other cabin and is a short walk on a path to get there.
-Food items are not provided. Please bring what you need.
-Pack n play is not kept on site and must be requested in advance.
-This is an old cabin, and still primarily in it's original form. It is a seasonal cabin with no insulation. It is only available from mid May - mid October for this reason. There is one large gas heater in the living room, a couple space heaters for bedrooms, and plenty of extra blankets for cooler nights.
-Provided box fans and a recently installed attic fan generate extra airflow for the hotter days.
