About this property
Grange Gaïa sur Rivière
A fully renovated barnhouse, Gaia invites you, in its timeless surroundings, to discover nature at its very best. The barnhouse is nested in the heart of the Goul valley, in the hamlet of Manhaval, one of France and Europe's most remarkable locations, just a step away from the "Chemin de Cluny" (GR 465 hiking path), a famous path of pilgrimage renown.

The old barnhouse, dating from the 18th century, has been restored with taste and the desire for a job well done by local artisans, using noble and traditional raw materials: stone, granite, wrought iron, lime, solid oak,... Furnishing and fabrics, sourced locally, preserve their original form or undergo a colorful "revamping", providing authenticity and originality. The result is a snug-and-cosy, simply but tastefully decorated abode.
A small paved patio with a shale stone wall invites you in, and provides a view looking down over the land and river below. Just right for taking a lazy breakfast on a sunny day. Once inside you are greeted by a staircase with wrought iron railing shaped out of a forged iron anvil from days gone by, and chestnut wood. A fully built-in kitchen area provides all you need in terms of modern utility to prepare your meals in comfort. This opens out onto the spacious living room area with its oak roof beams, solid chestnut wood furniture, and a splendid view out over the forest, the meadow and the river. Take off your shoes and feel the pleasant sensation of solid oak wood parquet beneath your feet. And take a seat at the traditional "Auvergnat" table, or serve yourself a drink at the bar separating the kitchen from the dining area. Or, should you choose to, take advantage of the different spaces the vast living area provides: the "blue" salon, the "Moroccan" lounge , the "bistrot" space, the kids’ corner...
The spacious and cosy sleeping quarters are located on the ground floor below, refreshingly cool in hot summer months, and with underfloor heating should the weather get cooler. They comprise four welcoming bedrooms retaining the character of the barn, each with traditional local stonework, and decorated in colour , with a judicious mix of ancient and modern furniture. Two of the bedrooms provide direct access to the garden and a lower terraced area, perfect for taking that evening "apéritif". All bedrooms have a view and are equipped with "king size" beds and bedding.
Once outside, the meadow, land and river are yours to make the most of. The river flows right along the 13000 metres of land just below the barn. Relax, go for a paddle, kick a ball around, swim, play, laugh, barbecue, meditate... The choice is yours. And on a clear night, contemplate the starry skies. No fear of noise or pollution here...!
We hope the idea of spending some time here tempts you. In which case, we look forward to greeting you soon.
