About this property

Serenity at the Pine House: Get Away from it All

Surround yourself in knotty pine at your home away from home. Gather the whole family here and enjoy the large great room with a wood fireplace. Play some games by the fire or enjoy a movie from our video library. Take a nap in our indoor hammock. This is a family friendly place with a loft area for all the kids to sleep in. Or plan your next golf get-away or winter romp here at the Pine House.

This 2,100 square foot home is located in the Michaywe development on a cul-de-sac and is surrounded by wooded lots. It has three bedrooms: one upstairs with a king-sized bed and hammock, another one upstairs with a queen-sized bed and one downstairs with a queen-sized bed. There is a loft with a full futon with a bunk on top, another bunk bed, a twin available upon request and a TV/VCR. There are two full baths, a full kitchen and a large great room with a wood fireplace and an entertainment center with a TV/VCR/DVD, large video library and stereo. There is a large deck in back with a charcoal grill and a bonfire pit.
While here, you can enjoy the free amenities of the Michaywe Owners Association, including the clubhouse (restaurant, bar, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pool, spa and sauna), lighted and groomed cross-country ski trails and a private beach with beach house and playground at Opal Lake. The Pines Golf Course is also located within the Michaywe development. https://www.michaywe.com/

Just minutes from Gaylord, take advantage of all the unique downtown shops, bars and resturants. Enjoy snowmobiling (rentals available in town) on hundreds of miles of groomed trails accessible right from our front door. Downhill skiing at Boyne Mountain or Tree Tops is under 1/2 hour away. Boating/jet skiing/fishing can be enjoyed from the public launches at Opal Lake and Otsego Lake State Park, plus several other nearby lakes. Michigan's 'Alpine Village' is famous for it's 21 championship-caliber golf courses, as well as it's location in the center of the Michigan Snow Belt. Only a one hour drive takes you to historic Mackinac Island, the wineries at Traverse City, Charlevoix, Petoskey and Harbor Springs.

Cozy New Years Vacay

Our family had an excellent stay at this cozy pine house! Loved all of the little extras from the decor to the blankets and holiday lights. The main room is fantastic with high ceiling and the bunk beds were fun for the kids. We also enjoyed all of the closets and the washer/ dryer. Will definitely stay again!!!

Cabin in the woods

The cabin was a lovely getaway in the Michaywe community. It was a little trek out to Hwy 32. We had a short visit yet we enjoyed using the grill, the firepit, the association's pool and sauna.

Great cabin

We enjoyed our stay. It had everything we were looking for in a getaway. Host was amazing, very accommodating and helpful. Will recommend this to anyone that needs to get away that wants out door activity. Opal lake was awesome, the staff there are very friendly. Couldn’t have asked for a better place. Thank you Todd and Beth.

Michigan get away

Our whole family stayed there consisting of 4 adults and 3 children 6 and under. There was more than plenty of room for all of us. The back deck and front porch are especially nice for the outdoor experience. We used the kitchen every day and it is well stocked.

Great Place to Unwind After a Day on the Slopes!

We just got back from an impromptu ski weekend at the Otsego Club (less than 15 minutes away) and really enjoyed our stay at the Pine House. It was a perfect place to unwind after a day on the slopes with 7 teenagers and 4 adults, everyone was comfortable in this spotless home and enjoyed the wide variety of movies that were provided by the owner. There was even plenty of room and everything we needed (pots and pans, plates, bowls, utensils for 11 people) to make a big breakfast for the gang before heading out to the slopes in the morning. Thanks for a wonderful stay!!

Great Value

I spent 2 nights in this home with grandparents, parents and teens. We had a great time. The home is very clean, warm and comfortable. The house is well supplied with everything we needed. The owner is as warm and friendly as the home. It is an excellent value and, if we go back to the area next year, we will definitely stay again. Thanks so much.

Quiet Get Away

We had two families (8 people) share this house. It was cute and cozy and just the right size. There is no air conditioning, which was an oversight on our part. Luckily it was a cool Michigan weekend. Very close to Gaylord. Loved the wildlife we saw.

Clean, well maintained, well stocked/supplied.

This is a place we will try to book again. It fit our needs perfectly! Cozy yet roomy, well stocked and supplied. It was a great place to relax after of busy days. Very quiet. A doe and 2 fawns walked through the front yard every morning we were there. The weather didn't cooperate with outside relaxing, but the backyard and deck were delightful.

Perfect long weekend getaway

Nice, clean, well kept property in an ideal location for our long weekend getaway with friends. The layout is great for adults to get their own space and kids to get an open area sleepover. Just a quick drive over to Lake Otsego or to the neighborhood amenities. The indoor pool/jacuzzi was closed for our stay, but the outdoor pool worked perfectly for our group. No internet or cable (which is known per the listing) but a strong collection of old school VHS tapes

Inside is excellent; great layout for a large group and all our stuff. Location was perfect for fishing the upper Manistee and AuSable rivers. Close to town but quiet and secluded. Outside is rough; no yard maintenance done and there were a lot of caterpillars on the outside of the house. Made it hard to use the outside spaces but that wasn't an issue for us.

The best!

This was a darling house. It was super clean and well maintained. There was tons of space in each room. The kitchen was well equipped. The views were great, we were constantly seeing deer and turkeys. Very close to Gaylord for shopping. We rented this spot because we were working a wedding at Sojourn, it was super close and made our jobs a lot easier! The communication between us and the owners was also great! Thank you!

Central location for up north adventures

Wonderful home, exactly as described in the listing, and ideally located for day trips to Mackinac, Traverse City, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and inland lakes for fishing. This house was large enough to accommodate our extended family and tree filled neighborhood provided a perfect “up north” feel. Safe, quiet and secluded location without being remote. The pool and restaurant at the clubhouse were an added bonus. The owners were exceptional with communication. The instructions were clear and our late night arrival was no issue. I will definitely consider staying here again. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Beautiful property. Very comfortable. Awesome particularly if you want media down time.

Limited TVs (none in bedrooms) and no wifi. But highly comfortable with many, many creature comforts. Well equipped kitchen. Comfy bedding and towels. Blankets galore. Wbpf. Hammock. Rockers. Porch swing. We were up for a stay and play snow weekend. Very good time and close to everything. Great time!

Home Away from Home

We all appreciated the knotty pine interior of this clean, comfortable, inviting home. We had 5 adults in our group, all with 'our own space', but we also used the great room to be together. I (mother/wife) appreciated the laundry and provisioned kitchen--I cooked almost every meal due to dietary restrictions in our group, and I enjoy cooking! We used the Weber grill, the fire pit, the patio(faces forest with wildlife viewing)...I am a walker, and walked the area often, felt safe, enjoyed the wooded lots and variety of homes. We had no opportunity to use the pool, but we looked at it, looked great! I highly recommend staying at this location.

Great family home

My sister and I stayed here with our 6 kids (ages 2-12). We had a great time. There were plenty of beds for everyone. Everything was super clean and pretty much everything you need in the kitchen is there (except food, duh hahahah). I loved that it was a close enough drive (around an hour) to Torch Lake, and Mackinac City. The property was pretty secluded, but in a nice neighborhood. Great “woodsy” feel without all the dirt, lol. We didn’t try out the pool, so I can’t attest to that. We did drive to the Otsego Lake state park, which was super nice. Walmart was about a 20min drive, which is about normal for me, so I didn’t mind it. Overall great place! Would stay again :)

Vacation

Overall our stay was great! The house was in a great location and we saw deers everyday! We enjoyed the pool twice even though we had issues with the key cards and had to be let in by an employee both times. The kids loved the bunk bed and the front porch to play on when it was raining. We cooked a lot of meal at the house but could only find one spatula which made it a little bit Challenging. We also had to go out and buy our own kleenexes because there was none in the house and had to go buy garbage bags because there was only two under the sink. We saw a lot of big ants the first two or three days we were there but after day three we didn’t see two many. Mowing the grass in the front yard and clearing the walk way to the fire pit would make it look a lot nicer

In 2000, our family set out to buy the perfect Up North vacation home. Our clan consisted of my husband and myself, (pregnant with our first child), my sister, her husband and their daughter Brittany, and my mom. After a few weekends looking around the northern part of the Lower Peninsula, two-thirds of us came upon the Pine House. That two-thirds convinced the other one-third (my husband and I) to buy the home sight-unseen, as they were so anxious to make it our own. We made the leap, and many years later (and a total of six more children later) we are still enjoying our Up North vacation retreat.

Why they chose this property

Gaylord fit our needs, as we wanted to enjoy the quiet and beauty of the outdoors, while still having the conveniences of a nearby city. Gaylord is home to many golf courses, lakes and beaches for summertime enjoyment, and it is also located in the middle of the Michigan Snow Belt, allowing us to ski, snowmobile and sled. Michaywe Owners Association also fit our needs as it has it's own indoor pool, beach and playground, perfect for our growing family.

What makes this property unique

Over the years, our family has had bonfires with s'mores, songwriting and games of 'telephone', walks in the woods, bike rides, long days at the beach, snowmobile rides, quiet time with our own families as well as large family reunions, boating excursions, movie and game nights, fire-side chats and stargazing. As our children have grown, and we are lured by other vacation destinations, we have used our vacation home less and less. We are now offering it to others to enjoy as we have. Joining VRBO has been a joy, as I have learned that mushroom hunting is a spring-time sport in Gaylord and also how to make a 'dough boy' by an open fire.
