Beachfront Nantucket style home with amazing views on 3 acre estate setting

'The Bluff House' is a very private turn of the century informal home located down a private country lane directly on the water overlooking Pleasant Bay, Nauset Beach, and the Ocean beyond. An ideal family retreat with ping pong, croquet, pier, swimming, boat mooring, and nearby golf. All bedrooms have water views and the large patio and yard offer unending summer fun. A great house for informal entertaining or escaping the real world. A home where time stands still and days float by. A short drive to town, restaurants, golf, theaters, and shopping with all the privacy of a bygone era. Fishing off the pier or chartering a boat for your stay allows the descriminating few a chance to relax only 1.75 hours from Boston.


Who best fits the house: This is a charming house for those people who want to be near it all yet able to step back to a quieter family oriented environment. This is a great beach house with the comfort that can only be found in old estate area's where property has not changed hands in 4 generations. Everything is well preserved, updated, and clean. But most importantly family's can relax and enjoy the best location on Cape Cod. The dock goes with the house and is shared with 2 family members. If you are looking for a very comforatble house with unbeatable views and a location that cannot be duplicated you will not be disappointed. Walk down the path/stairs to the beach for that perfect escape.

Air Conditioning: central air throughout the house was just completed with 4 zones and numerous control options to maximize your comfort. Additionally, cross ventilation and the evening ocean air keeps the house cool and comfortable on all but the hottest days.

games: there is croquet, ping pong that is set up in the cleaned out garage, numerous board games, puzzles, and a small library.

Fishing: a great spot for fly fishing or just relaxing and casting off the pier- striped bass and blue fish are the predominant catch. For those with a boat or desire to rent one a mooring is available for your use.

Best location in Chatham

The incredible location of this house cannot be overstated. It is truly one-of-a-kind. The house is lovely and comfortable. Twenty-something’s loved it, 90 year old mom loved it! We all enjoyed looking out onto Pleasant Bay and watching boats go by. Owner is an excellent communicator and answered our questions quickly. If you want a phenomenal view and gorgeous outdoor space, you can’t beat this house!

1960's Cape Legend

1960's Cape Cod regal family property that is very special. View and location was just incredible....nothing better, this is why you pay a premium. Amenities e.g. towles and linens left something to be desired.

Private, picturesque, and perfect!

We chose this property to accommodate our family of 7 and could not have enjoyed it more. The home is located down a secluded drive on a private bluff overlooking Cape Cod Bay. The location provides close, easy access to all the activities the cape has to offer while also offering a fabulous retreat where we could take walks on the beach, play croquet on the lawn, sit on the patio and take in the breathtaking views (sunrises and sunsets are not to be missed!), and enjoy our nights playing games around the large table or watching a movie on the BIG screen television. The owner was incredibly gracious and communicative, and I highly recommend this lovely home for anyone looking to enjoy the Chatham area.

Perfect Summer Retreat

At the end of a winding dirt road, this charming old house sits on a bluff (just as pictured) just above the water, pretty as a picture. It's quite private, yet only a mile or so drive into Chatham for restaurants and such. The home must be 100 years old, and while not luxurious, it's absolutely charming, comfortable, and clean. Pay attention that there is only one bathroom (plus an outdoor shower), and while there are 5 bedrooms, 3 have antique full sized beds (not queen), and one is a twin bed. The house offers beautiful old quilts, hooked rugs, and antique furniture along with modern appliances and plumbing - a great combination. We rented kayaks and bikes, enjoyed croquet on the beautiful lawn, a fire in the wood-burning fireplace on a cold night, beautiful views, and plenty of relaxation. It was wonderful.

Perfection!

This vacation spot is a true treasure. The bluff house has the most incredible views. The historic home is warm and inviting with a beautifully manicured lawn. Which was perfect for the children to play on when we were not enjoying the beach. Sitting on the patio with a cup or coffee in the morning watching the fishing boats leave the bay or the evening with a glass of wine watching the sunset was a great way to start or end a summer day. The home is well appointed with everything you would need. The AC was a nice bonus that we used only on the most humid days, otherwise the ocean breeze was all we needed. Owner was quick and gracious in answering any of our questions. So fortunate to have found this house rental, our family made memories during our week stay that will last forever. Hope to return next year.

Spectacular setting for a perfect family vacation!

We booked this stay for a family wedding and getaway. This home was perfect for our group of 4 adults. The setting surrounding the house was spectacular! Although there were 5 bedrooms upstairs with only one bathroom, it might have been tight if we had any more people. It turned out to be a very relaxing getaway with access to the water without having to get into a car. It was quiet and fairly private except for the other family members who shared the boat house access and dock by the shore. The beauty of the preserved old home and the stunning views from all the rooms were amazing! The house just embraced us, and we felt so at home here. My daughter especially enjoyed the morning sunrise over the ocean from her bedroom. The weather cooperated for us to use the outdoor shower to get everyone ready for wedding events, which was helpful. Loved the old honeysuckle arched arbor as you came in the back door! The house had a charming, comfortable character; the beds and the kitchen setup, sitting areas were all great. There was everything we needed- felt right at home. We hope to visit again in the future!

Surprise trip for our adult children

From start to finish an absolutely amazing experience. Woody was fantastic and very helpful. The pictures are great but really can't convey how spectacular the property is. When you come around the corner of that long entrance and see the Bluff House, it takes your breath away. Every thing was perfect and I would recommend it to anyone who asks! Wayne Conway Kansas City

A Healing Place

We had the wonderful opportunity to reconnect with all our children In this amazing home with tranquil views of the bay and ocean. I loved watching the boats come and go and listening to the seals during low tide. After a very difficult year for all, it was very healing.

Charming Chatham

The approach experience helps build anticipation- road twists and narrows as you approach the sea- scattered blue hydrangeas highlight the path. And then..... the view of the house up on the bluff. The pictures don’t lie! Children immediately run to the dock as we unload groceries into an air- conditioned house. (Which we turned off because the sea breeze was all we wanted and needed) This spot is a real treasure. And the touches inside were gorgeous: sofa, curtains, rugs- beautiful appropriate fabrics. Fun kitchen, dishware, gardens outside with ample comfy seating. The outdoor shower...... amazing. Woody responds in minutes with answers. And do take water taxi to beach if you don’t have a boat. Our 8yo caught a Striper off the dock

Love the outdoors and all the memories spending summers in the Bluff House every year since birth as my father and grandfather did-- always on the water or spending time taking in the view, swimming, sailing and relaxing.

Why they chose this property

My family has owned this property for over 100 years as is true of most houses in the area

What makes this property unique

In 1918 when my grandfather bought the property he had the choice of many fine sites. He chose the best piece of property in Chatham with amazing views of conservation land and the National Sea Shore barrier beach. In 1922 the house was updated which has continued throughout our ownership. An informal summer beach house that won't disappoint.
