About this property
Escape to cozy remote cabin on lake with beautiful views
Wonderful 1960 traditional cabin on gorgeous secluded lake.
520 sq ft with all wood interior, large windows and a big front porch. A short boat ride from public access or canoe ride brings you the to cabin with ample dock space and where a large fire-pit awaits you and a sand box for the little ones. We also have a few kayaks for your use. A short hike will bring you out to the point - a very special place of interest on the island where you can have coffee in the morning or a few drinks after a long day. I love to read, knit, draw, and view all the birds and the nesting eagle on the island while listening to the loons and enjoy a sunrise or a gorgeous sunset!
There is a lovely traditional Swedish sauna building with shower and dressing area. We keep the wood shed stocked up for the sauna and for the fire-pit. The wood is directly behind the shed - easy access.
Great fishing lake from dock or out on the lake.
1 bedroom with king bed and a double pull out couch in living room.
Full kitchen with everything you need to cook inside or grill outside on deck or at the fire-pit beside lake. Great place to fry up those fresh fish after a long day on the lake.
No interior bathroom, but a clean lovely outhouse not far from the cabin. A truly rustic experience!
A very short car ride will bring you into the very special town of Ely for shopping, food, and anything you might want to experience in small town living!
You will also be very close to the Boundary Water Canoe area
for great exploration and photos! Day trips or overnights as well with guides if needed. Ely offers plenty of options for you

About the host
Hosted by Cindy Wasem

I came to Bear Island lake in Minnesota as a VRBO customer a few years ago and fell in love with the island, the cabin, and the town of Ely. I had visited the area as a child and always wanted to come back as an adult for a visit with my family. After a few trips with my husband and dogs we decided to buy the cabin as it had been on the market. We visit as often as we can and thought it would be so nice to share such a magical place with other people. We also enjoy the winter after the lake freezes to enjoy the beauty of winter, and snowshoeing all over the lake. Our wood-burning stove keeps the cabin very warm and comfortable.
Why they chose this property
Our cabin is on an island with only 1 other cabin. We have a wonderful view of the lake and we are fortunate to enjoy a short walk to the point of the island which looks out onto the entire lake. It is my favorite part of the island. Listening to the loons and viewing the Bald Eagle which likes to park directly across from the point to look for food. Great fishing on the point of the island.
It is also a very short boat ride from the public dock making it convenient to get back and forth when we want to go to town or other areas for great hiking.
