Nice Benzie County Retreat
Great location. Nice lake. Home has many good features. Great selection of kayaks, canoe, paddleboards and life jackets. Floor plan is good w decent furniture. Well stocked kitchen. Window AC in two bedrooms. The firepit is great with excellent seating. The view is fantastic. The house has lots of little issues that could easily be fixed and a couple bigger issues. Little issues: No walk or stepping stones between drive and front door (so if damp you track in sand and grass), door wall very difficult to slide, bedroom and bathroom door knobs that don't work, one sink faucet very difficult to operate, huge gaps under bedroom and bath doors, terrible trim work or trim missing completely, filthy under couches, beds and top of refridge, fridge and freezer doors do not seal and the master bed is so high that at 6'3" I still had to hop up to sit on it! Bigger issues: the pictures show property lined by pines which you hope provide some privacy. Unfortunately, the pines are old and most lower branches are dead and provide little screening. The biggest problem is the seawall and lake frontage. I measured lake bottom to top of seawall at 57" - yeah almost five feet tall! So if you stand in the water, good luck getting a kayak or canoe up the seawall. The lake drops off very slowly. Depth at end of the long dock is maybe 4'. No diving and a mucky/sand lake bottom makes for poor swimming from shore. All in all, a good lake home at a fair price and we'd consider a return visit.

Beautiful, private, peaceful
We loved our stay at this house! It was very spacious. The kitchen was fully stocked with pots and pans and coffee maker, so we had everything we needed for the weekend. The bathrooms also had hairdryers! The house is very private and has its own beachfront and dock. The yard in front of the house faces West-Northwest so you can catch every sunset on the back deck. The sunsets are SO beautiful-- We loved to sit outside each evening and admire the view. The grill was very handy and the fire pit was very fun to use as well. The house is also very close to a lot of fun hikes and towns so we did not run out of things to do. The owners have a guidebook they sent us with everything you can possibly do in the area. Hikes, biking trails, towns, stores, restaurants….you name it. The owners were very easy to get in touch with. We will definitely be back!

Very Comfortable House
The house is very spacious and the view of the lake is amazing. But the living room furniture was totally broke down & unusable. We contacted owner. He didn't know. Amenities listed hairdryer & there was not one & there was absolutely no soap in the showers/tubs. Only hand soap dispensers in the bathrooms. So bring your own. Great location.

Serene location for quick getaway!
I brought my family visiting from overseas to this cute little cottage and it was a very fun stay. The location was very convenient and a good homebase for exploring m22 thoroughly. The cottage overlooks upper herring lake and has an excellent, long dock that allowed us to use our kayaks easily. Paddleboards, a canoe, and what I believe was a rowboat were available and in great condition. There were two full bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, and plenty of sleeping space. We were 5 adults and were quite comfortable on a weekend trip. Finally, the ownerwas very easily reachable and I felt quire reassured that if I had any issues he would help figure out a solution.

Why they chose this property

My family has been coming up to Benzie county Michigan since 1917 and the area is very special to me. It is very beautiful and there is so much to do. There are countless hiking trails, scenic views, shipwrecks, restaurants, breweries, and small towns up and down the coast.

This house is very private with a private lakefront. It is a great place to spend a week or more with close family and friends. I myself have bonded with so many people in this area on many different excursions.

The house is very close to Frankfort, Michigan. It is also near the Baldy hike, Elberta Dunes, Arcadia Marsh Hike, St. Pierre Biking Trails, Empire Bluffs, Sleeping Bear, Frankfort Beach, Stormcloud Brewery, and Crystal Mountain. Traverse City is a 45 minute drive.

-House comes with a washer & dryer, free wifi, 45' Smart TV, fully equipped kitchen, linens provided, beds made, fire ring, paddle boards, and canoe.
