About this property

Men an Mor- Waterfront Fisherman's Cottage in the Warren, St. Ives with Parking

Stylish - Prime central location - Porthminster BEACH CABIN, PARKING wifi
Situated on the seaward side of the Warren in a conservation area of central St Ives stands Men an Mor Cottage. Perched on a large outcrop of blue elvin rock, between Porthminster Beach and the harbour, the large picture windows frame a spectacular outlook, from St Ives town to Godrevy lighthouse made famous by Virginia Woolf.

The Porthminster beach hut is included from Easter to October half term

Relax on the window seat and watch the world go by, boats sailing past, and various wildlife including seals, dolphins and cormorants. Men an Mor cottage is perfect for holidays at any time of the year. In the winter stay warm inside whilst watching the waves crash over the rocks below. During fine weather, look out over the azure blue sea or walk the few steps to the golden sands of Porthminster beach. The train/coach station and car park are a 3 minute walk. Free wifi

Men an Mor: Perched on the rocks between Porthminster beach and the harbour sits Men an Mor cottage so named after the slab of blue elvin which protects it from the sea. Men is Cornish for rock or stone and Mor means sea. The setting is striking with an expansive view from St Ives harbour to Godrevy lighthouse. When the tide is out the golden sands draw out the beachcombers, whilst at night the harbour lights shimmer across the water. This peaceful idyll is occasionally broken by stormy weather with the sounds and spectacular display of the Atlantic crashing against the rocks below, best viewed from the comfortable window seat with a glass of your favourite tipple. Men an Mor is favourably situated, in a conservation area, on the seaward side of the Warren, next to Porthminster beach and its famous café. The train station and car park are a 3 minute walk. The harbour, only a stones throw, provides a full range of eating establishments.

St Ives: St Ives has long been famous for its artist colony drawn to the area by the fantastic nature of the light. It was at the vanguard of the Modern British movement and those inspired by the town include Virginia Woolf and Alfred Wallace. This influence is still strongly in evidence today, with the world renowned Tate, St Ives and a wide selection of good quality smaller galleries showing an ever changing display of art from post war up to the present time. Music is also an important feature of the town. Throughout the year the pubs and the Guildhall play host to various bands from local to world music.

All of these artistic achievements are celebrated during the St Ives September festival, which runs for the 2nd and 3rd weeks of September, a popular draw for both UK and international visitors.

Delightful Stay in St. Ives
This is a wonderful property and overseen by an incredible owner who couldn’t do enough to help provide recommendations for our stay, provisions and more. St. Ives is the nicest town in the area and the house is just a few steps away from the shops, bars and restaurants. But what makes this place special is that it is perched on top of the rocks, with a picture perfect view of the beach, harbor and – if you’re lucky – the seals. The house itself is cozy and very clean, with everything you need, including a bath with a view of the ocean. Simon, the owner, is a really nice guy, who genuinely wants his guests to have the best possible experience. There’s lots to do in the area – St Michaels Mount is interesting (but you have to book a slot) and the Godolphin restaurant which is right next to it is a cut above most eateries. The nearby coastal walks are awesome. The Guinness in the Sloop is very tasty – too tasty. Surprisingly, the Thai restaurant in town is really good and the chicken at Beer and Birds was a hit with the kids. We went in November so the town was quiet, but I heard from a number of people that it gets busy in the summer, so book restaurants ahead. Enjoy and we'll definitely be returning to this property.

Best view in St Ives
We had a lovely week at Men an Mor cottage. The view from the living room window is spectacular, overlooking the harbour and beaches. Watching the comings and goings of the tides each day was fascinating, and we were lucky enough to have beautiful sunny weather which certainly added to our stay. The cottage is very well placed, just a short stroll into town, and next door to a lovely hotel (Pedn Olva) with a terrace for pre dinner drinks. An added bonus was the beach hut on Porthminster Beach.....stocked with deckchairs etc which made things easy for us to relax on the beach. Carine and Simon are amazing hosts, with a very generous welcome hamper (thank you!) and on hand with lots of advice about eating out and local places of interest. You really need to book ahead if going in school holidays, we were so glad we did, lots of people were getting turned away from pubs/restaurants that were fully booked. The house itself is beautiful. Clean, modern and well kept, with comfortable beds and 3 nice bathrooms (bonus if staying with a larger party). Carine and Simon take care with the little personal touches that enhance your stay, and make it feel really special. The cottage doesn't have outside space, but the beach is literally steps away and we enjoyed the hotel next door to sit out in the late afternoon/early evening, so this wasn't a big problem for us. We absolutely would recommend their beautiful home, and look forward to returning!

Best view in Cornwall
This property must have one of the best views in Cornwall. The provided car space is a 10 minute walk away, but due to the property location we left our car for the full holiday and walked everywhere. The welcome pack from Simon was the best we have ever received and Simon was there to help us carry our bags and welcome us. The property was well equipped and very clean. The beach was very close via either a clamber down the rocks at the back of the house or a short distance to the other beach although this didn't allow dogs from 10 am until 6pm. This did though have a beach hut and a bar on the beach so perfect. Its a pity that Simon is Planning to live in this property soon otherwise we would have definitely booked again in the future.

Perfect spot
Loved everything about this quaint property, especially the view ! Communication throughout was brilliant , Simon was always prompt to reply and gave us all the info we needed - he could not have been any more helpful if he’s tried . I would highly recommend staying here, we had the most unbelievable weather too and we were so grateful for the beach hit and parking space . It was a completely perfect holiday
