About this property
Sierra City Loves Falls Cabin - Walking Distance to Waterfall & PCT
Relax in gorgeous great room with a wood-burning stove, hang out on two decks-- one with views of the Sierra Butte's sneaking through the trees. The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is a ten-minute walk from the cabin, as is the bridge over the confluence of Haypress and Yuba rivers on Wild Plum Road. Sardine/Salmon lakes and the lakes basin is just a ten-minute drive with endless hiking possibilities. The wireless internet is fast enough to stream movies on our projector or to have zoom meetings if you are working from the cabin. This would be a good writing retreat. A couple of important notes: To access the upstairs you should be comfortable navigating the spiral staircase (in photos). The great room, main bedroom, kitchen and bathroom are all downstairs so it's not necessary to get upstairs if that is an issue for one or more guests. Second, as seen in the photos, the upstairs has a queen and two twin beds, but there are no doors; so there is not the same level of privacy you have with the downstairs bedroom. In the winter you should also be comfortable working a wood-burning stove (which is simple to operate). We are ok with a well behaved dog.

Great place, great location. Main room was roomy and cozy. Owners were very responsive and extremely accomodating. We had a great time and enjoyed our stay very much. We ended up mistakenly taking one of their pillows home with us and they were very understanding and patient about getting it returned to them!
Came up to the mountains for late September fishing and hiking, weather got frisky, had to spend extra time indoors...very spacious family room...had a great time in a beautiful and quiet part of California.
Beautiful home, great neighborhood, all the kitchen tools, pots and pans that we needed to cook and serve. We would/will definitely return. We had difficulty operating the projector TV (and did not succeed). We thought that a coffee table (of any size) would be great in front of that big comfy couch so we could safely set down a drink and a snack.
Quiet neighborhood. Upstairs is pretty difficult due to very narrow spiral staircase. There is a second entrance to upstairs from the outside, but no key so you always have to go up the spiral staircase to unlock that entrance. A large person carrying a suitcase would not make it on the interior spiral staircase. After 2 days of trying to work the Apple projector screen, we believe the tracker on the remote is not working so we had no streaming. All too cumbersome to operate. It is really a pleasant home with nice space overall. Great location for hiking!
Everything was great about the property. I have 2 suggestions for the owners. 1. The key holder/box was extremely hard to get into. I resorted to leaving the key under a rock after my 5 minute struggle to get it when i first arrived. Strongly suggest replacing it. 2. The only skillet/frying pan, which was cast iron, was so heavy, it took both hands and all my strength to lift it. And im not a weakling. If an elderly couple stays here, they would be unable to use any of the cast iron. Suggest a ceramic, non-stick 10 - 12" & a 9" for eggs, etc.
Very clean, plenty of space. We did not venture upstairs so can’t comment on that, but everything was as described. It was absolutely freezing when we arrived, and most of the wood pieces were large, so chopping wood in the dark was not in our plans. Perhaps the cleaner could have turned on the kitchen area heater for a bit before guests arrive. As soon as we unpacked and got a fire going, we sat down to watch the projection tv, and discovered that none of the living room outlets were working. We flipped the breaker and it didn’t fix it, so I sent a quick note to the owner letting her know, but noted that we moved the projector to a plug near the door and it was working, so it was not a big deal. I didn’t love the response:” that’s odd, first I’ve heard of it.Thanks for the heads up!” A simple “I’m so sorry” would have changed my review a bit. But that one thing wasn’t enough to leave a negative review.
The house was very comfortable and the location perfect for a Sierra Buttes getaway; we were there for the change of seasons and the first snow. House warmed up perfectly using the wood stove. We’ll be back!
We enjoyed our stay, but there were a few little things that could be nice for your next renters. The decks could have been swept, blankets on deck couch were not folded and damp giving impression previously used/not clean. Kids shorts and undies on upper deck giving impression not swept. No mattress pad cover in downstairs room, plastic garbage on bathroom floor, no coffee filters? left lower deck door very hard to open/close (needs repair). No soap for bathroom shower? No tongs in kitchen. When preparing to leave we wanted to get the sheets washed, but there were Rags in washer so didn't want to mix rags w/ bedding. Not a lot of options in the area, but seemed overpriced.
The house was great. Very clean, functional, and comfortable. My only minor complaints are the listing says 3 bedrooms but in reality it's only 2; the upstairs loft has no divider wall/door. Also, the spiral staircase is super narrow and steep; only slim and fit individuals should stay/go upstairs.
Loved our time here. Great room was fun for gathering and the dinner table made meals with everyone easy!
A little hot upstairs and in the bedroom but otherwise nice!
Communication was forthcoming and appreciated. We slept downstairs and the bed was very comfy. The couch and chair in the main room were a bit awkward. I thought it would have better furniture for the price we paid. There’s no bathroom upstairs and navigating the narrow, spiral staircase would be a challenge in the middle of the night. After doing physical activity during the day a shower would have been nice but the shower didn’t have hot water. We’re not fond of electric stoves but I can understand they’re probably the most safe in a rental. It’s a good location and we enjoyed spending a few days in the area.
What a neat spot! It's in a nice quiet neighborhood with trails nearby and many more just down the road. The house is quite large but has everything you could want. Can't wait to come back in the summer :)
It's just as described. Our family does a winter getaway each year after Christmas, and this cabin was an excellent fit for our group of 8. Even with only one bathroom, it was never an issue. We enjoyed going on a hike and walking through the neighborhood. The spiral stairs added charm to the cabin.
We stayed at this house for our winter vacation for few days. The location was very nice, beautiful and quiet neighborhood. The house was very spacious and had everything we needed. Perfect place for family vacation in nature :)
We are two Sacramento based families and try and get up to Sierra City as often as we can. We absolutely love the cabin, neighborhood and community. Every season has its charms.
