About the host
Hosted by Therese and Andy
Andy and Therese love old houses. Andy, a native of Massachusetts, is a working contractor/carpenter and we love working together to fix old homes. We are happy to share our Victorian era Cape home with you when we are not there to enjoy all that Cape Ann has to offer.
Why they chose this property
We love this house and its location, so close to the town of Rockport, with its massive granite rocks and quarries, lovely beaches, hiking opportunities and other areas of Cape Ann to explore. The neighborhood is welcoming, close to nature, and has many historic homes. For example, our house is also known as the Bradley House. Phillips Bradley died in an air mission in the Pacific during World War II, and is honored with a plaque for his service, near our home.
What makes this property unique
Our house is comfy, inviting, and airy with a cool ocean breeze on most days. We love the huge vulcan magnolia, lilacs, peonies and rose bushes on our property, and the songbirds that serenade us at all hours of the day and sometimes the night. When it's not overcast or foggy at night, we love to sit in the yard (wearing bug spray, this is Massachusetts) or look out the bedroom windows and see stars all around. Being able to walk to so many of the special places in Rockport is a huge plus.
We are a convenient 5 minute walk from the T commuter rail, which is now back in full service taking Rockporters to work in Boston or elsewhere on the North Shore, like Salem and other cool places to visit. With this convenient proximity also comes the annoyance of some noise from the trains running, at least for now, their diesel engines, which idle at the train station until they leave again.
Gloucester and its gorgeous beaches is only a 10 minute drive away and non residents can now reserve a parking space at the popular beaches, Good Harbor and Wingaersheek in advance, for $30 a day during the week and $35 on weekends. Crane Beach in Essex is also an easy drive and you can reserve parking in advance there too.
