About this property
Classic Orr’s Island, Maine Cottage, sleeps 4, 1 Bath, Stunning ocean views. New Listing !!
“Footnote” is an ideal quintessential 1920’s Maine cottage located on Orr’s Island. presenting stunning ocean views and breathtaking sunsets. Orr’s Island is a gem of Harpswell, one of the most beautiful , quaint towns along the Maine coast. The feeling upon entering the cottage will leave you feeling the true tranquility you’re searching for! Plan to relax and enjoy the spectacular views from the cottage and of course its glorious deck!
The kitchen and bathroom have been carefully renovated and fully updated while maintaining the true charm of the cottage. You will enter through the screened in porch, which is a perfect extra spot to relax in ! The cottage sleeps 4, as it features 2 inviting bedrooms. One with a queen size bed, with a step down as you enter the cottage (the only step inside the cottage !) while the other conveniently has 2 twin beds. You’ll enjoy a comfortable living room, with a large screen TV, (for your streaming purposes) as well as a small sitting/reading nook, also with a two-seater couch. Perfect for curling up with a good book !
The new, fully equipped kitchen will have everything you need for a comfortable stay including all new appliances. From the kitchen, you have access to the inviting deck to enjoy the impressive views as well as the lovely patio furniture put in place. This cottage is the perfect balance of well maintained beauty from the past, and the modernization of today.
There’s also a trail alongside of the property leading down to the rocky/sandy shoreline. This trail is not everyone, as the terrain is a bit steep, but many love to explore, and end up at the shore ! Parking for the cottage is marked, and you will then venture down a wooden stairway to reach the cottage. The only amenity you will not find here is a washer or dryer. (Who wants to do laundry on vacation ??!!) “Footnote” is also accompanied by a larger home, called “Epilogue” on the premises which sleeps a total of 6 people, so if you’re looking for a larger rental for family, this is perfect for you, as you are able to rent them together if so desired. If you’re interested in both, please contact the manager with your questions.
“Footnote” is located close to Brunswick, where you will find grocery stores, restaurants and shopping. Brunswick is also home of Bowdoin College, Maine State Music Theater, as well as museums to explore. On Orr’s Island , it’s just a short hop to seafood restaurants , kayak rentals, trails, mini beaches, and even a candy and ice cream shop ! You are only a short distance from Freeport, (home of L.L. Bean, and many outlet shops), Portland, Bath, Boothbay, Bar Harbor ~ many enjoyable day trips to be had !
Cancellations will receive refund as stated in the policy, less any processing fees. This property can be viewed and booked on Vrbo, AirBnb, and Maine Coastal Connections, Harpswell, Maine.

EPILOGUE & FOOTNOTE
THE OWNERS STORY
The story of Epilogue and Footnote started more than a decade ago with our dream of living on a boat. Philip owned a boatyard and had been around boats since childhood. Connie had just published a nonfiction book. We both had retired; the timing was perfect.
We bought a 42-foot Kadey Krogen trawler and set out to enjoy the “Epilogue” of our lives. And what better name for Epilogue’s inflatable dinghy/tender than “Footnote?”
For six months we traveled the entire Intracoastal Waterway to Florida and then on to the Bahamas. After traveling south, it was time to head north. We spent several summers in Maine, dodging lobster pots, watching seals -whose faces look remarkably like dogs- and chuckled to hear them snort. And of course, we checked off each entry in the long list of lighthouses along Penobscot Bay’s rocky shores.
On a cold, dreary summer day, we made our way to Harpswell and joined friends we had met boating. Once we learned how close we were to Portland, we decided “this is it!” - Harpswell is where we wanted to be.
We sold our house in Charleston, S.C., and bought our home here in Harpswell. Living on the water was so special there seemed little need to go back out to sea so the boat and dinghy were sold.
But Epilogue and Footnote live on in these rental houses - Epilogue, the sparkling new abode, and Footnote, the cozy 1920s cottage.
While one dream ended, a new one had just begun.
