The host was incredibly responsive and provided helpful details throughout my stay. I was fortunate to experience a rare early-season snowfall, which made for a truly magical visit. The views were stunning, and the host's kind assistance in navigating the weather added a thoughtful touch to my experience.
Our recent stay in the mountains was nothing short of enchanting. The cozy casita provided a perfect retreat for our travels between Santa Fe and Taos. We spent our evenings by the crackling kiva and really appreciated the kerosene soaked wood chips too! Great place!
Wonderful cozy casita! Comfy bed, loved the kiva, beautiful views, had everything we needed for a pleasant stay. Will book again! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It is a hidden gem that
provides everything needed from comfy coziness to privacy with views of excitement. All nestled in remoteness yet centrally located where one can visit Santa Fe, Espanola, Rio Grand, Taos, and history of The Bandeleir Ruins, Sanctuary Chimayo just to name a few. The Casita is absolutely cute and cozy.
Quiet location. Perfect get-away. Great to have a kitchenette to prepare meals and eat out on the deck. On the deck we were entertained by hummingbirds. Wonderful spot and owner!

Beautiful views from every window. We loved the rural and secluded feel, very private, the wifi worked great. Enjoyed being able to have a fire out on the deck and inside.
This little house is just wonderful. It is close to Santa Fe about an hour. So if you want to be in Santa Fe, maybe not for you. But if you want to be alone in the mountains, it is wonderful. It does everything you need. We were a little worried that there was no air conditioning, but the nights were very cool and was wonderful. Thank you for our stay
I just needed some time secluded to myself with space to think and breathe. Between the location, cabin, and birds I found what I was looking for. The property manager was great as well.
Could not have been happier. House is private, cozy, well-appointed, and utterly quiet. Plenty of kitchen ware, plentiful wood supply, clear instructions. Delightful hummingbird wars.
Looking forward to coming again.
We drove 12 hours and didn’t make it before dark, so absolutely try your best to do so the first night so you can figure out how/where to get in. Wonderful home, perfect to enjoy the views, the weather and lose all sense of responsibility to your job or kiddos for a few days. We will absolutely be back.
The place was just as described. It was a perfect getaway. We had a wonderful time on the porch with a fire going. That’s where we spent 70% of our time. I would recommend to anyone.
This a true gem if your desire is privacy and serenity. Located in the mountains north of Santa Fe, there's no structure within sight (the "main" house on the property is hidden behind a privacy fence). The views from the deck are incredible. The host was always very responsive.
Loved everything about this cabin! We were worried at first about not having an air conditioner, but we didn't need one! The cool mountain breeze through the open windows was more than enough!! We had a quiet peaceful getaway until the children staying at the adjacent property took a walk past our cabin to the abandoned car on the property and starting playing drums on it like it was their full time job. But the property manager was at no fault for that. We still thoroughly enjoyed the rest of our stay!! The trees in front were the perfect place for our hammock!!
The casita was the perfect little vacation home. My husband and I booked it for our 33rd wedding anniversary and we had the best time!! The pictures do not do this little house justice. The views are amazing. Vicki is the best host she answers all our questions and was just awesome! This was our first time exploring New Mexico the state is beautiful we will definitely be back! Thank you again Vicki for being a gracious host!
I had a wonderful time resting and recharging here. The scenery couldn’t be better, there are nature walks and scenic drives in all directions, and there is not a hint of pretense. I suggest you arrive before dark on your first night, as there is a gate to maneuver and a key box. The owners were lovely to me about figuring out both of these even though I arrived on the late side. You will love this property. Five stars.
The perfect place to get away from it all and enjoy nature. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the mountains. Watch storms roll in while staying warm and sitting by the fire. Stars fill the night sky. Morning coffee on the deck. All the appliances are new and modern: Outdoor gas grill, microwave , airfryer, Keurig coffee maker, 2 burner gas stove, refrigerator, freezer, shower and hot water. Plus, an indoor Kiva and outdoor chiminea with firewood. It’s everything you need to spend an extended stay. We were greeted one morning by 11 wild turkeys on the property. Hummingbirds and a little lizard also came to visit. Great coordination and communication with the hosts. We felt blessed to be able to stay at such a wonderful spot. If you’re looking for solitude, nature, and tranquility, this is your place.
We were very happy in the casita that is well equipped and has splendid viewswith quiet surroundings.
Only one drawback was the poor quality of our sleep due to a very uncomfortable mattress. We were both so concerned about waking up with some back or hip pain that we decided to sleep each on one end of the bed across the width of the bed on the second night. My husband feet stood out but at least our respective body had more support and in turn we got more rest and avoided possible pain.
We would like to suggest the owners to change the mattress to offer comfortable nights to guests.
We would like to go back once the mattress is changed to a newer and firmer one.
Otherwise, we appreciated all the other comfort included.
I was originally planning to not send in a review. The cabin was cozy & nice, but I do have a few comments. We had trouble opening the lock box to access the key. Not sure why. There was food left in fridge from the previous renters. Couldn't get microwave to work. Coffee pot required coffee packs; we'd brought coffee but not in packs. Outdoor grill, which we didn't use, had grease all over & the ants had taken over. Lacking AM coffee & unable to microwave anything convinced us to leave after only 1 night. I stress though that the place was cozy & our first impression was very good, but on balance, it wasn't a very good experience.
The casita was the perfect place for our visit to NW New Mexico. It is perfectly situated between Santa Fe, Taos, and the beautiful surrounding communities. This allows access to the bigger cities with the advantage of being able to get away from the crowds as well. The casita is situated on a very nice property that has a mix of prairie and juniper trees that offers privacy and seclusion. We loved seeing the bird activity in the morning and evenings and listening to the coyotes at night. The sky is very dark at night, offering you the opportunity for excellent stargazing usually reserved only for those who are camping completely off grid. The cabin itself is well appointed and had everything we needed. It was nice to have a cool too and microwave after camping for a week, and the shower with ample hot water was amazing. We found the bed soft yet comfortable and the easy chairs were very nice. Who doesn’t want to kick their feet up with a glass of wine after a long day? I would highly recommend staying at the Truchas casita if you value privacy and seclusion over luxury and crowds. If you need 5-star accommodations and white glove service then look elsewhere but if you want to just relax and unwind in the best that nature has to offer then this is the place. I know that I will look to stay here again the next time I am in the area.
