About this property

Remodeled 150 Year old Adobe, In historic New Mexico Village

A fully remodeled 1100 square foot adobe home, with one large bedroom and a fully equipped kitchen, living room, bathroom with a walk in shower. Situated on the High Road to Taos in historic Truchas New Mexico. The large windows in the bedroom fully frame the view of the Truchas Peaks, which at 13,100 feet dominate the surrounding countryside. There is also an additional 400 foot covered portal for a relaxation during your breakfast dining or happy hour.

The adobe was fully remodeled 10 years ago with a new kitchen and bathroom - many of the old elements such as the vigas and adobe walls were retained. The casita is equipped with traditional details including hand carved furniture, plastered walls and wooden floors.

Solar panels have also been installed within the past 5 years to reduce our carbon footprint.

Its hard to imagine anywhere better to stay if you are in search of beauty, solitude and grace. The hosts were perfect, the property magical. The listing is way understated, this is the place you have been looking for if you want to take in the beauty of the high road and make a few wonderful meals for yourself.

This beautifully restored adobe is perfect for a peaceful, quiet getaway. We loved taking long walks in the cool clean air and resting in the lovely patio with a gorgeous view of the mountain scenery. When we could tear ourselves away from our comfortable nest, it wa a short trip to Chimayo and its sacred and culinary attractions. The road to Taos is longer but scenic and interesting. Owners Annette and Ben are the best hosts!

Lovely Cabin and Great Views!

Beautiful, well maintained cabin perfect for a few days vacation. We loved the porch where we sat and watched the sky in the evening. It is a bit out there though so come prepared with whatever you will need.

About the host

Hosted by Ben Smiley or Annette Vigil

Host profile image
The house was originally built in the late 1800's by my wife's family. It originally started as a one room adobe, then over the years rooms were added on. When we purchased it 10 years ago it was a three bedroom one bathroom home with last family having 6 kids raised.

We remodeled it into a one bedroom guest house - it is a totally detached home (roughly 150 yards from our house) on an acequia (dating to the 1750's). Attached are pastures where the family has bailed alfalfa for many years.

What makes this property unique

An ideal location for a romantic getaway for two with quiet mountain solitude.
