About this property
Mountain Cabin Retreat FAST WiFi, Ski Sipapu,Hike, Hunt,Fish,Art, Taos, Santa Fe
Huge deck with propane grill, table and chairs & hummingbird feeders. Backyard creek with hammocks, picnic tables, chairs, & fire pit.
Well stocked kitchen includes coffee maker w/ coffee, toaster, Keurig, blender, crock pot, electric skillet, mixer, food processor, ricer/steamer, citrus juicer, cake pans, muffin pans and cookie sheets. Refrigerator with ice maker.
Gas heat and wood stove with romantic glass doors. Plenty of firewood.
Lots of free strawberry plants.
Ice cold streams run through timbered mountains. Find your quiet space and enjoy the peace, clean air, dark, starry nights. Leave the mundane things of life behind and discover yourself, your own thoughts and feelings. The back yard is the main attraction for us at Mountain Cabin Retreat. The grass surrounding the creek, the bridge where we sat and dangled our feet in the cold mountain stream, imagining family gatherings around the campfire. The first step through the front door said, “Welcome home”. During our many years here, we have done a lot of remodeling. The quality workmanship is evident the moment you step through the entry door. The wood stove mesmerizes, lighting and warming the hardwood floor. The coved log ceiling beams, called vigas, reflect centuries old architecture. The quiet speaks of reflection on today, yesterday, and tomorrow, on life and purpose. The dark skies look back through millenniums of time and displays an eternity of celestial bodies. Yes, we warmly invite you to come and experience the alluring appeal of Mountain Cabin Retreat.
The 1400 sq. ft. make for a spacious 2-bedroom house. All rooms are large. The cozy, comfy living room has the wood stove with plenty of firewood. TV’s with ROKU, DVD and VCR players are in the living room and the Buffalo Room. The Buffalo Room also serves as an additional sleeping area. There is also the opportunity for wildlife viewing from the Buffalo Room and the dining room. Many times we have seen elk, coyote, birds and more. The hummingbirds are a real attraction at the feeders on the deck.
Special note: bedroom 2 is accessed through master bedroom. Both have queen beds.
The Buffalo Room is on the opposite side of the house, making it quite private from the master bedroom and bedroom 2, and has a sofa bed, futon and a single bed.
No smoking is allowed in the house. Designated outside smoking areas are provided. The last 1 mile to the house is a gravel road that is well maintained by the county road department.

About the host
Hosted by Jim and Mari Lu Jensen

We are baby boomers, 24 years into a great marriage. We're both still quite active and hope to be for some time yet. Mari Lu is a Santa Fe native and Jim is a native Oregonian. Mari Lu loves cooking and we both enjoy the rural mountain life, hiking, fishing, 4 wheeling, camping, canoeing, remodeling, and look forward to some traveling in the future.
What makes this property unique
We were moving from the Oregon desert and wanted mountains and trees. Mari Lu was originally from Santa Fe and has family in the area. Once we found Chamisal and met the wonderful people here, things just started falling into place. The first time we walked through the front door, even though it was night, I knew this was our home. The creek in the back yard clinched it. It was in need of remodeling yet as a retired carpenter and the remodelers that we are, we knew we could do it. We moved in and went to work replacing the roof, exposing and coving the vigas, tearing out the old flooring and putting in the hardwood flooring, adding the wood stove, replacing doors, adding the patio and deck, etc., etc. It's been a labor of love and we are very happy to make it available for others to enjoy. Perhaps some day we will move back into it.
