Mountain Cabin Retreat FAST WiFi, Ski Sipapu,Hike, Hunt,Fish,Art, Taos, Santa Fe
Huge deck with propane grill, table and chairs & hummingbird feeders. Backyard creek with hammocks, picnic tables, chairs, & fire pit. Well stocked kitchen includes coffee maker w/ coffee, toaster, Keurig, blender, crock pot, electric skillet, mixer, food processor, ricer/steamer, citrus juicer, cake pans, muffin pans and cookie sheets. Refrigerator with ice maker. Gas heat and wood stove with romantic glass doors. Plenty of firewood. Lots of free strawberry plants.
Ice cold streams run through timbered mountains. Find your quiet space and enjoy the peace, clean air, dark, starry nights. Leave the mundane things of life behind and discover yourself, your own thoughts and feelings. The back yard is the main attraction for us at Mountain Cabin Retreat. The grass surrounding the creek, the bridge where we sat and dangled our feet in the cold mountain stream, imagining family gatherings around the campfire. The first step through the front door said, “Welcome home”. During our many years here, we have done a lot of remodeling. The quality workmanship is evident the moment you step through the entry door. The wood stove mesmerizes, lighting and warming the hardwood floor. The coved log ceiling beams, called vigas, reflect centuries old architecture. The quiet speaks of reflection on today, yesterday, and tomorrow, on life and purpose. The dark skies look back through millenniums of time and displays an eternity of celestial bodies. Yes, we warmly invite you to come and experience the alluring appeal of Mountain Cabin Retreat. The 1400 sq. ft. make for a spacious 2-bedroom house. All rooms are large. The cozy, comfy living room has the wood stove with plenty of firewood. TV’s with ROKU, DVD and VCR players are in the living room and the Buffalo Room. The Buffalo Room also serves as an additional sleeping area. There is also the opportunity for wildlife viewing from the Buffalo Room and the dining room. Many times we have seen elk, coyote, birds and more. The hummingbirds are a real attraction at the feeders on the deck. Special note: bedroom 2 is accessed through master bedroom. Both have queen beds. The Buffalo Room is on the opposite side of the house, making it quite private from the master bedroom and bedroom 2, and has a sofa bed, futon and a single bed. No smoking is allowed in the house. Designated outside smoking areas are provided. The last 1 mile to the house is a gravel road that is well maintained by the county road department.

Yes, the quiet up here is very relaxing and a real contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city. Another feature is the dark night sky that reveals a multitude of stars, and we all enjoy a good night’s rest in a comfortable bed after a day of activity.
We had a fabulous stay! The house had great room for our family and all the amenities we needed. We went for skiing and the house is only 25 minutes from Sipapu, with a Family Dollar along the way for anything we forgot or ran out of. We look forward to coming back to stay again!
Jim and Marilu were wonderfully welcoming and accommodating. The property was an unexpected treat with a beautiful creek running through the backyard with hammocks and a fire pit on the banks. The house is gorgeous and full of Southwest charm. It was comfortable, spacious, and well-stocked. I can’t recommend this stay enough. We will be back!

We’re so glad that the cabin worked out well for you and the kids. Hope you can come again soon.
This was a return visit for us. We don’t feel like our summer is complete without a stay at this mountain retreat. Hosts are terrific and always around if needed. The house is pet friendly and our dog enjoys trips to the creek every day to play in the mountain stream on property. We love the deck on back of the house. View is terrific. Laundry facilities are really nice to have. Kitchen is terrific.

Thanks Cindy,
We love seeing you both every year. Looking forward to next year.
The house was perfect for our family. Lots of space for all of us, and the perfect location for day trips around the area. We enjoyed coffee every morning, and after dinner time, down by the creek. We loved seeing the hummingbirds, yellow monarch butterflies, American Robins, and even a brave muskrat on the property. Necessities (coffee, hand soap, laundry detergent, etc. ) were provided, and we loved seeing the kids master the VHS and DVD players.

Thanks for staying with us. It was nice meeting you and your family.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The space was large and well stocked with everything we needed. In addition, there were VCR and DVD players with a wide range of movies that came in handy after a long day spent skiing (in addition to streaming television access). Great location that offered a fantastic view. We will be staying again!

We’re so glad you enjoyed the house and thank you for such a nice descriptive review. Looking forward to seeing you again.
The place is much roomer than the pictures. I love the layout of the place. The car port was nice since it snow on Saturday. My group really enjoy our stay. The host was always there when we needed them. I would definitely stay here again!
Jim and Mari Lu were great hosts, responsive and very welcoming. We felt like we were at home. Mari Lu gave us some of her delicious salsa. The hummingbirds were plentiful and a joy to watch. We and our pup enjoyed the nearby stream and the deck.
We booked last minute and everything went easy and smooth. Loved the place- especially the wood burning stove. House is well stocked and we really loved the welcome lemon cake. What a sweet gesture. Will definitely come again.
Jim and Marilu's house is very comfortable with a good sized kitchen and dining area plus plenty of sleeping space. The kitchen is well equipped for longer stays. The area by the creek is lovely and I enjoyed having coffee and listening to the water and birds. The deck is also wonderful to eat or sit and enjoy the views. My friends really enjoyed visiting. I liked that the house was far enough from the main highway to not hear traffic yet close enough for easy access. There is good hiking and skiing within a half hour drive. I met Marilu and she is a very sweet person and kind and generous host. My only suggestions would be to make sure stair areas going to the creek are clear of overhanging branches and provide shade structure or umbrellas on the deck.

Thanks for staying with us and taking such good care of our home and for such a detailed review. Do come again.
Dirt road to quiet and privacy. Cool evenings . About 45 minutes to Taos which has great food and the Taos Cow. Wife loves the shopping (e.g.Moxie). Josey had a fenced yard and a creek to splash in.
We have multiple stays here and the owners have become like family.

Thank you. We have really come to enjoy your visits as well.
We happened to hit a snowstorm just right and had a great weekend skiing at Sipapu. Our hosts had a nice cozy fire going for us when we got there, and they even gave us some tokens for discounts at one of the wineries nearby. One little piece of advice - cell service is pretty bad up there, so be sure to have the door code saved somewhere, because you may not be able to pull up the app. The wifi works great though, once you get in!

About the host
Hosted by Jim and Mari Lu Jensen
We are baby boomers, 24 years into a great marriage. We're both still quite active and hope to be for some time yet. Mari Lu is a Santa Fe native and Jim is a native Oregonian. Mari Lu loves cooking and we both enjoy the rural mountain life, hiking, fishing, 4 wheeling, camping, canoeing, remodeling, and look forward to some traveling in the future.
What makes this property unique
We were moving from the Oregon desert and wanted mountains and trees. Mari Lu was originally from Santa Fe and has family in the area. Once we found Chamisal and met the wonderful people here, things just started falling into place. The first time we walked through the front door, even though it was night, I knew this was our home. The creek in the back yard clinched it. It was in need of remodeling yet as a retired carpenter and the remodelers that we are, we knew we could do it. We moved in and went to work replacing the roof, exposing and coving the vigas, tearing out the old flooring and putting in the hardwood flooring, adding the wood stove, replacing doors, adding the patio and deck, etc., etc. It's been a labor of love and we are very happy to make it available for others to enjoy. Perhaps some day we will move back into it.
