Amazing property and host! We honestly spent most of our time at our family's river house for a family reunion, but wished we would have had more down time to relax at this cabin. Everything was top notch. Wonderful property!
We have been going to this area for 4 years and have stayed in a different house each year and I have to say this was the best one yet. The location was perfect, very secluded and nice hills to walk up and down for exercise before enjoying wine on the deck. The house was stocked with anything you needed and Edward was a wonderful host. We will definitely look at this cabin again next year!
Wonderful home, well taken care of! Great, quiet neighborhood with plenty of privacy. Close to West Jefferson, but far enough to make you feel like you are away from it all. Owner has great communication, easy directions, and the home is well-stocked with almost everything you could need. Home is a great lay-out for families with plenty of space. We had a perfect weekend get-away at the perfect place for us!
One of the most enjoyable experiences in our travels. A five-star rating all around. The owner has thought of everything and gone the extra mile to make visitors enjoy the stay! I highly recommend a visit...you will not be disappointed. Thank you!
My husband, adult son and his wife stayed for 5 nights at this wonderful home and it truly could only have been better if we stayed longer! Edward, the owner was more than helpful from the very minute I booked and through the entire stay, checking in on us to be sure we had all we needed. The cabin was well stocked, very peaceful, clean and just right in every way! Community was very nice, easy access to get on the river if you wish to canoe/kayak.. Do plan to make a return visit for sure!
The home was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. It was also spacious for our party of 7. They had basic condiments/spices, cleaning supplies, etc. They had deer food and we were able to see/feed many deer. The owner was extremely prompt and helpful about the area. We had a peaceful and relaxing week there and would love to return!
We had never stayed in the area and were pleasantly surprised by the incredible, beautiful scenery surrounding the cabin. The views of the mountains and the river upon driving into the community were amazing. The cabin itself was also a pleasant surprise. Set in a forest of pines and mountain laurel, it was very comfortable with many amenities. We loved seeing and feeding the deer. We very much enjoyed our stay at “Burr”den free and we will certainly be back for a longer stay.
The cabin was excellent, with most anything one might need or use. The kitchen was great. We really liked the "mountiany"decor, the nice wraparound porch/deck. We enjoyed using the fire pit & feeding the deer that came to greet us soon after our arrival. We especially liked the privacy & quite atmosphere of the location. Our family typically camps (we have travel trailers) but due to some health conditions, decided to rent a cabin this year for a more relaxing time & were so happy with the "Burrden-Free" cabin!
The cabin was well kept and inviting as soon as you drove up the driveway. This was more than just a place to sleep, the cabin was equipped with plenty of extra items to make you feel at home. We had plenty of space for our entire family to spread out among the levels and find our own peace and quiet. Outside, the cabin had plenty of areas to relax and enjoy nature(including the deer). Edward went above and beyond providing plenty of information about the area and was very communicative throughout the trip.
My husband and I travel a lot. We use Vrbo for six to eight trips per year, and this beautiful rental is our favorite so far. It is in a beautiful gated community in Piney Creek, NC, very close to the NC/VA state line.
The beds were the best we have slept in (better than our mattresses at home!); the showers were a delight to use. The kitchen is the best stocked kitchen we have encountered - everything you could possibly need! And the leather reclining sofa was just what we needed after a full day of hiking each day.
We loved everything about this rental!
What a nice place to stay! There was a nice balance between seclusion and access to adventures in Grayson Highlands, Damascus, West Jefferson, etc. And then there were the deer in the yard and in the neighborhood! There are deer around where I live but I have never seen bucks with the velvet on their antlers but I saw 2 in the neighborhood! So cool! I also loved the layout of the house. It was so convenient to all be together but separate when we each wanted alone time.
Stayed at this property with friends for the weekend and we couldn’t be more pleased with the cabin and the whole VRBO experience. The cabin was clean and perfectly furnished for three adult couples. The owner reached out to me in the days leading up to check in with information that made navigation to the property effortless, access to the property worry free and enhanced the whole experience. In addition, he promptly answered the only question I had and stayed in touch throughout the weekend to make sure our stay was the best possible. A true five star deal. We look forward to returning to this beautiful area and this charming cabin.
This property has everything you need. It was a pleasant getaway with the family. The property is absolutely gorgeous, beautifully decorated, very comfortable, very clean. One of the best properties we have rented through VRBO. The owners thought of everything you could possibly need for your stay. We enjoyed the deer in the yard, sitting by the firepit telling stories. We visited nearby Stone Mountain, and we went horseback riding with Appalachian Trail Riding, Doug was the best, located 20 miles from the cabin in Virginia. We were there for a few days, but just enjoyed spending time cooking and eating in the cabin and sitting on the massive front porch. Our daughter had to do a little work from home, and they have an excellent "office" set up in the loft. She had an extra monitor and printer and WIFI was no issue at all. We will definitely return to this cabin in the future as it covered all of our needs and then some. The owner was very responsive and followed up to ensure our stay was perfect.
The house was immaculate and just as described. It has everything you need and more. Communication with the owner was prompt and informative. It was truly burden free and a very neat property. There are neighbors but the property is still somewhat secluded. The roads to the property are typical mountain roads but easily navigated. We did have quite a few leaves on the long driveway on arrival so I was a little unsure of my boundaries but thanks to the wind it was mostly cleared. Once I walked the drive/road I realized I had plenty of clearance getting in and out of the drive. The deer are plentiful and we truly enjoyed feeding them and watching them. Fire pit was great. Outdoor seating and grill were wonderful. Internet service was very good and there are certainly enough TVs for everyone to watch what they want but we enjoyed the house so much we watched very little. I would certainly make a return visit to this cabin. Thank you Edward for making our stay wonderful!!
This cabin is absolutely beautiful, spacious, and nestled in a quiet cul-de-sac with lots of amenities. We had such a great time feeding the deer that would literally come within 10 feet of us. Super comfortable and adjustable sleep number beds was just another amenity that shows the commitment of the host. Speaking of the host, what an attentive and sincerely kind man. He is genuinely interested in nothing less than a stellar stay for his guests. We will most certainly be back.

About the host
Hosted by Edward Burr
Both are from the mountains, and now live in the Raleigh NC area. he is in emergency services, she in sales and service in the elderly care industry. We purchased the Cabin as a way to get back to the mountains when we can. Our goal is to share the spirit of the mountains with others.
Why they chose this property
After staying in this community a few years ago for a family event, we often thought if we ever purchased a home in the mountains we would consider this area. After viewing this home on a Saturday morning and realizing it was perfect, He purchased it without her even seeing it. The property sets on 2.5 acres wooded, seclude lot with plenty of wildlife that has a big interest in us humans. (especially if you have food)
What makes this property unique
This property offers several benefits such as the added security of being in a gated community, the cabin is very secluded, the wildlife is amazing. The house itself is 3 stories, with bedrooms and full baths on each floor allowing separation when you want it, and a large main floor for all to gather as well.
