About this property
Mt. Vernon Ranch House near Red Rocks and Colorado Mountains, skiing. Est 1860
Historic Mount Vernon House. Red Rocks Amphitheater. Ski Slopes, Golden, Colorado
Greetings and thank you for looking into the Historic, Mount Vernon House. As the name shows this home is comfortably nestled in Colorado’s Mount Vernon Canyon, 20 minutes from downtown Denver and 45 minutes from Denver international Airport. The property can be available for events such as weddings or reunions, please inquire!!
Location:
The Home is surrounded by a Jefferson County Open Space Park known as Mathews/Winters Park. So, there are many hiking trails within an extremely short walk, and many more within a short drive. You can walk to a local brewery and restaurant. Five minutes to Colorado Mills Mall. Thunder Valley motocross track is 2 miles away. The Home is 2 miles away from Red Rocks Amphitheatre, which there is a direct hiking trail. It is also about 2.5 miles from Bandimere Speedway, a NHRA dragstrip. The home is 45 minutes drive away from Loveland ski area, so if you are going skiing and are familiar with the area, you are close to many ski areas! It is very close to Golden which has many niche shopping areas and of course Coors Brewery. On the other end is the quite little town of Morrison which has many unique opportunities for restaurants and shopping. With all above mentioned you have a total secluded feel and still have many amenities nearby. The perfect access to major highways, means at times , in the summer, you may hear the low rumble of some traffic.
House:
The home is on the National Historic Register, which makes it a real treat to stay in. It was built in 1860. It is built from local quarried stones. So yes, it is old, it but has many modern upgrades such as indoor plumbing, electricity, TVs, internet, appliances and a/c heat. It still retains much of the old feel, like slopping floors, steep stairway, wood floors and two feet thick walls. The walls make the house cool in the winter, but not freezing, just bring a sweater and slippers. The home does have AC, but , and doesn’t need it, once the sunsets a delightful cool breeze always comes down the valley and cools everything down. That makes a perfect night for BBQing and being by the fire pits. We also have the Mount Vernon Creek running directly in the front yard. There is a totally private deck on the back of the home, perfect for sunbathing or yoga. The yard is green grass with plenty of flower beds around. There is also plenty of wildlife around, depending on the season, mule deer are around all year, elk can be seen in the fall and spring and on occasion bobcats, rattlesnakes, wild turkeys, mountain lions, bears, skunks, foxes, Red tail hawks and coyotes. So be prepared for nature if the mood is right! Do not think this is a modern exclusive villa. Its a fun old, rustic house.
Accommodations:
The house can sleep 10 comfortably. 3 main bedrooms and one room that can sleep kids or adults. All the bedrooms are upstairs as they were in the old days. Upstairs there are 2 bathrooms. One, in the master bedroom has a shower, toilet and newer heavy-duty washer/dryer, the other is in the hallway between the bedrooms, it has a toilet and a sink.
The Main level has a large living room, a large fold out couch is comfortable for sleeping. A large office type or gaming area, there is an air mattress, a bathroom with a bath tub and a kitchen. The kitchen has granite counters, a dishwasher and a table to sit 5, plus a trash compactor, a 5 burner gas stove top, a microwave and a convection oven.
PLEASE NOTE : The home is old and so is the plumbing ! If you and I don't want a mess PLEASE do not flush feminine products ! PLEASE ALSO, no grease or oil in the drains ! Also any larger food stuff should go in the trash and small food from rinsing dishes is fine for the disposal. No one wants extra plumbing charges.
PLEASE NOTE: there is a low noise limit at 9PM we can still converse but my neighbors are older and they have requested 9PM. It seems to echo over to their house. This home is so outstanding , it’s only reserved for special people!
