Lots of attractions such as a wild water roundabout, jet scooters, a bouncy castle and much more. I N S E L H I D D E N S E E The island of Hiddensee is definitely worth a visit. You can travel to the island of Hiddensee by boat from Wiek, for example. The journey takes around 60 minutes. You can then hire bicycles directly at the harbour or explore the island on foot or in a horse-drawn carriage. Hiddensee offers a very beautiful beach that invites you to linger. Störtebeker Festival In 2009 it's once again "All set to board" From 20 June to 5 September there will once again be a play with over 150 performers, 4 ships, 40 horses, special effects and much more. Every evening you will see fireworks over the "Großer Jasmunder Bodden", making your visit to the island of Rügen an unforgettable experience. The German Oceanographic Museum in Stralsund is the largest natural science museum on the German North Sea and Baltic Sea coast and is unique in Germany. It is one of the 20 nationally significant cultural institutions in the new federal states. With around 600,000 visitors a year, it is one of the most popular and most visited museums in Germany. The OZEANEUM, the fourth extension to the German Oceanographic Museum, opened its doors in July 2008. The OZEANEUM is a museum. In addition to attractive aquariums and playful leisure activities, the educational programme takes centre stage. Visitors can also discover the world of the oceans through reading and are sensitised to topics relating to the blue water planet. Cycling On the map, which is attached as a picture, you can see the marked cycle paths around the island. You can either bring your own bike or hire one from Pension Windland, which is about 300 metres away C A P A R K O N A Cape Arkona is worth a visit at any time of year. There are a variety of attractions and sights here. Explore the cape on foot or with the Cape Arkohna railway. For example, visit the romantic fishing village of Vitt, the Peilturm tower or the Slavic ramparts. The Cape Arkona naval bunker is also part of the site and can be visited. H A F E N S T A D T S A S S N I T Z The harbour town of Sassnitz offers a good opportunity to combine a nice walk with a shopping tour. The harbour town and harbour itself offer a good opportunity here. An English submarine, the H.M.S Otus, is also waiting for your visit. You can also book wonderful boat trips from Sassnitz to the chalk cliffs W E L L N E S S / B A D E R If the beautiful Baltic coast of Rügen is not spoilt by warm sunshine, you can take a break in the varied indoor pools. Vitamar in Binz Rügen We recommend the "Vitamar" in Binz. Here you can have fun swimming among tropical plants even in "bad weather": a 40-metre water slide, adventure grottos and waterfalls await the children. And for adults, there is a sauna area, sunbeds and many other relaxation options. The village and the adjoining headland, the Bug, are part of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft nature reserve. From the Lancken district, there are good connections to the island's cycle path network. Wittow peninsula The green Wittow peninsula in the north of Rügen, once an offshore island, is connected to the Jasmund peninsula (chalk cliffs) in the east via the very narrow Schaabe headland, one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on Rügen. A small car ferry also runs across the 350 metre wide arm of the Breetzer Bodden in the west of Rügen (6-19 hrs, in summer until 21 hrs, waiting times possible). There are no larger towns on Wittow. The rather flat, very extensive peninsula, which is characterised by agriculture, with impressive cliffs in the east, has its own special flair. It forms a natural haven of peace to the lively seaside resorts in the south-east of Rügen. Cape Arkona, the 'North Cape of Germany', with its landmarks, the two lighthouses, is particularly worth seeing. The smaller one, built in 1827 by K.F. Schinkel, offers a marvellous panoramic view of the peninsula from the viewing platform. 'Rügenhof' with amber cutting workshop, glass blowing workshop, pottery workshop, exhibition of agricultural equipment and café. Jaromarsburg, a former Slavic hill fort, is also located directly on the cape. From there, hike along the cliffs to Vitt, Rügen's most romantic little village. Pretty brick basilica in Altenkirchen (summer programme). Juliusruh on the Schaabe is the most popular bathing destination on Wittow, Breege its dreamy counterpart on the Bodden. From here there is a ferry connection to the neighbouring island of Hiddensee. Area description: Island of Rügen With over 900 km², Rügen is the largest and also one of the most beautiful and varied islands in Germany. The island has been one of the traditional holiday destinations on the Baltic Sea since the beginning of the 19th century. It is not only the famous chalk cliffs that contribute to Rügen's popularity, but also the long sandy beaches, quiet bays, ancient beech and oak forests, avenues, megalithic tombs, Slavic castle ramparts and, in particular, seaside resorts in the style of the traditional spa architecture. Rügen actually consists of a whole series of islands connected by narrow headlands. This results in a coastline of around 600 kilometres. However, it is not only the coastline but also the landscape of Rügen that is very diverse. In the south around the main town of Bergen, the island is flat to hilly and is largely used for agriculture. The Mönchgut peninsula, in the south-east of Rügen, has a very special charm with its kilometres of fine sandy beaches and small fishing villages. To the north of Mönchgut, in the Granitz, with its famous hunting lodge, are the old Baltic seaside resorts of Binz and Sellin, which also have extensive sandy beaches. An attraction is the ride on the 'Rasender Roland', the nostalgic narrow-gauge railway, from Putbus via the seaside resorts of Binz and Sellin to Göhren. In the north-east of the island lies the Jasmund peninsula with the national park of the same name and the magical attraction for all visitors to Rügen, the Königsstuhl chalk cliff. This landscape is characterised by old beech forests with numerous small moorland areas and beautiful sandy and pebble beaches. The Wittow peninsula, in the north, with Cape Arkona and its two lighthouses, 160 metres high and sloping steeply down to the sea, is connected to Jasmund by the Schaabe headland. To the west is the Lieschow peninsula and the island of Ummanz. Day trips by ferry from Schaprode to the popular, car-free neighbouring island of Hiddensee. Rügen is separated from the mainland by the Strelasund, which is just under 1 km wide. The old 2.5 km long Rügen causeway was replaced by an impressive new bridge in autumn 2007, providing a direct link to Stralsund. The Stahlbrode-Glewitz ferry is the second option for travelling to the island in summer. Car train to Binz.garden and outdoor facilitiesGarden equipment : barbecue
