About this property

DEER LAKE LODGE: A Historic Gem

Escape to Deer Lake Lodge, a former hunting lodge that has been lovingly restored while maintaining its rustic charm.

A large eat in family kitchen comes with everything you’ll need to prepare a meal and the table can comfortably seat up to eight people making it the perfect way to come together for meals. The homey living room features a massive corner sofa and Smart TV. An additional sofa surrounds the wood stove at the far end of the living room for larger groups to break out the board games and spend time together. Soaking in the heavenly claw foot bathtub is a tiny bit of heaven.

ROOM FOR ALL
Deer Lake Lodge can comfortably sleep 9 people in 5 cozy bedrooms. In the attic the cozy master bedroom has a king bed tucked into the rafters with its own ensuite. On the second floor you’ll find a queen, two doubles, and a twin bedroom. If you need to do a working holiday Deer Lake Lodge has excellent WIFI and a light filled office nook in the attic with a big sky view.

OUTDOOR LIVING AT ITS FINEST
Two large outdoor porches provide quiet corners to enjoy a drink while taking in the magnificent view. Cook up a feast on the BBQ or fire up the wood-burning pizza oven. Connect with family and friends as you sit around the campfire at the end of the day mesmerized by "nature’s TV" as the coals dance under the starry night sky.

A LAKELAND PLAYLAND
The Almaguin Highlands is a four season outdoor playland and in the spring, summer and fall you can enjoy water sports, hiking, biking, horseback riding, ATVing and golfing. Your rental comes with a Provincial Park Pass to use while you are a guest, Mikisew Provincial Park is just 10 minutes away and it has nice quiet beaches, frisbee golf and lovely waking trails. For those who want something less sporty to do, visit our artisan galleries or take a road trip to neighbouring villages.

ONLY IN ALMAGUIN
For those who want something less sporty to do visit the Crystal Caves, Canada's largest private mineral exhibit & the most magical crystal shop you'll ever step foot into guaranteed. Another unique day trip in the Almaguin Highlands is to the Screaming Heads where artist Peter Camani has created an immense, surreal artscape of huge cast-concrete sculptures throughout his 310-acre property. For those animal lovers check out The Antler Farm where you can visit their deer and have your photo taken with them.

MAGIC AND MAIN STREET
We are a 20-minute drive from South River where you’ll find essential amenities and the Crystal Caves, the biggest mineral exhibit in Canada and the most magical crystal shop you will ever set foot inside — guaranteed. About the host

Host profile image
In July 2026, we had the opportunity to become the new owners of Deer Lake Wilderness Retreat, and we couldn’t be more excited about this next chapter.

Our vision is to create a special place where guests can slow down, reconnect with nature, reflect, and recharge. We want Deer Lake to be a place where you can step away from the busyness of everyday life, breathe a little deeper, and enjoy the simple things that make time in nature so special.

As new owners, we have lots of ideas for how we’d love to grow and continue developing this beautiful property while preserving the peaceful, natural experience that makes it unique.

We’re excited to welcome you and hope Deer Lake becomes a place you’ll want to return to again and again.

Happy Glamping,
Lisa & Jeff
