Romantic Historic Circa 1900 Farmhouse With Pond & Porch - 8 Miles to Brenham
Welcome to The Cottage at Chappell Hill. Some places are just places to sleep. This Victorian cottage farmhouse is something else entirely - stained glass, gingerbread trim, antiques with stories to tell. Sip coffee or wine on the expansive deck perched above a tranquil pond as birds serenade, deer prance at dusk, and fireflies light up the night. Known as the "Healing House" for decades, you'll feel it the moment you arrive. Only 1/2 mile from Chappell Hill's shops and diners. The perfect romantic retreat.
The Cottage is old-world European charm wrapped around modern comfort — the kind of place that reminds you why you love to travel in the first place.
The Cottage faces Main Street in the tiny, Hallmark-type town of Chappell Hill (population 300) — tucked away enough to exhale, close enough to everything worth doing. Guests have full private access to the entire 800 SF cottage, two porches, and fenced yard. The cottage sits on 0.60 acre, which you'll have all to yourself. No shared spaces or hovering owners here.
Modern Touches: Blazing fast Starlink Wi-Fi · Vegan toiletries · Organic linens · Phone charging station · Eye masks · Remote fireplace · Streaming TVs + DVD · Door code entry. Room details and amenities are captured in the photos — take a peek!
Historic Charm: Original shiplap walls · Victorian sash windows · Gingerbread trim · Oil Painting · Pressed tin ceiling · stained glass front door handcrafted in England · A German "Willkommen" sign welcomes you at the entrance — a nod to the original owner who built this cottage in the final year of the 19th century. German heritage is deeply woven into the fabric of this home and this small town. My German ancestors settled in this county in the 1800s and are buried in Brenham. I love sharing the cottage with others so they can create new memories, experience the beauty, explore the sites, and learn about the local history.

We absolutely loved our stay at this cottage! It was cozy, charming, and beautifully decorated with antiques that made it feel so special. The kitchen was incredibly well stocked, including food and water, which was such a thoughtful touch. The bed was very comfortable, and we slept great. Communication with the host was easy and helpful throughout our stay. We felt right at home and would love to come back!

This was our second time staying at this gem. We spent most of our time on the porch. It was truly relaxing and mind clearing. The place was very clean just like it was last time. Rechelle is a truly wonderful host with excellent communication. Will definitely stay here again. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful place!

Thank you so much for coming back and for these kind words! We're so glad the porch continues to be your favorite spot for relaxing and clearing your mind, and that the cottage felt just as clean and welcoming as your first stay. It means a lot to hear communication made things easy too. Thank you for being such wonderful returning guests — we can't wait to host you again!
The house is away from town, but it's a fast drive to Navasota or Brenham. We really enjoyed sitting on the front porch and the patio in the evenings. It was perfect for a couple wanting to spend a few days relaxing.

Cottage was very clean, with great attention to details. I’ve never stayed anywhere where the owner has thought of just about anything you could possibly need. The bed is comfortable, with incredibly soft sheets. Kitchen is well equipped. Decor is very quaint, and the front porch is very inviting.

Thanks for the sweet comments, Angela. It was an honor to host you on your wedding weekend. Please come back again soon. Wishing you more amazing travels!
The house is wonderful. If you like old houses or antiques you will love this. It is small, so I would not recommend it for more than a couple. We stayed here for our honeymoon and loved the quiet area and that it was not in town but close enough to Brenham for convenience. The house is very clean and well stocked with linens, cooking utensils, basic pantry items. The fosge is small though, so if you want to cook you may need to grocery shop frequently. Loved it so much that my mom and I want to come stay again and go antique shopping.

2nd time staying in 4 months. The property is just perfect for our needs and the host is so nice. The refrigerator is a little small but wasn't an issue for us especially with 2 good places to eat right down the road. This is a truly dog-friendly place and our pup enjoyed the fenced in front yard.

This was a terrific little get away spot! It felt like I was a world away from hectic everyday life, but really was just about 30 minutes from my home in Cypress.
The rental is well done with lots of little details that helped me feel at home. Check in and check out were super easy! This was a perfect location for me to get away for a day or two.

You were the perfect guest! Thanks for taking excellent care of the antique cottage. You’re welcome back anytime.
It's such a charming cottage and was perfect for us to just get away and chill. Very nicely furnished and decorated. The sofa and bed were quite comfy, something u don't always get. Washer/Dryer helped us pack fewer clothes. Owner was great, very communicative, accommodating and helpful with food suggestions. We loved the porch and spent every morning and evening there. Would 100% return.

What a wonderful, detailed review. Thank you. A lot of effort has been put into this slice of heaven and we appreciate your positive feedback. We are thrilled that you had a nice stay and hope you will return in the future.
The property was a quaint little cottage that was decorated with an antique feel. Everything was as advertised and when our stay in early November has to be rescheduled due to multiple emergencies, the host quickly responded to my request to reschedule for December. The only issue was the house was a bit drafty during the cold temperatures. I would definitely recommend a friend to stay here.

Hello and thank you for leaving such a nice review of our antique cottage! This is the first time anyone has left feedback about it being a bit drafty. Hopefully the fireplace was helpful in keeping you warm and cozy. Please come back to visit one day soon. Wishing you fabulous travels in 2025.
We loved this cottage in cute & charming Chappell Hill. Our dogs loved the yard and the porch, and we did too. All of the amenities were awesome and the bed was so comfy. We really loved our stay in this very clean and comfy weekend getaway. Shopping and stores in Brenham are close by but far enough to feel like you're in the country - which you are! Being there during bluebonnet season was also a plus. :)
We hope to return!

Thank you for the awesome review! I am so happy that you had a comfortable weekend and enjoyed the cottage. Please return soon.
We booked this nice little home in Chapel Hill for the weekend to attend the George Strait concert at Kyle field. It was the perfect place, not too far to drive to College Station and far enough to be out of the crowded city. If that's what you like, then this is the place. There are a couple nice restaurants just a mile or so from the house and the food was great. Rechelle, the host, was very friendly and communicated everything we needed to know well ahead of our arrival.
We had a very pleasant experience.
Thank you Rechelle!

A belated THANK YOU for taking the time to leave such a glowing review. Please come back soon to visit. The cottage misses y’all😊.
This was our second stay. We've fallen in love with this place. There is something magical and peacefilled here. My favorite is sitting on the deck or porch having delicious coffee provided and reading a book early morning listening to the birds. Occasionally we see deer. Our dog loves the yard, porch and deck as well. It has all the amenities needed and much more. The location was great for our needs. The owner is quick to respond and very pleasant to work with. We hope to return.
This cabin will take you back in time. Everything about the cabin and property was beautiful. It is located so close to the historic downtown and only a two hour drive from our home in Houston. The perfect getaway! We took our dog and he loved the grounds and we didn’t have to worry about anything because the yard is perfectly secure with a fence. The home had everything and I mean everything you could possibly need. They have definitely thought of everything when putting this place together for renting. The host was very nice and great communication. We will definitely be back.

Hi Kyle - Thanks for taking the time to leave such a wonderful review of your stay. Your words are helpful and they inspire me. We enjoy sharing our little slice of Heaven with others and are so pleased to hear that you had a lovely stay. Please return again soon. Take care.
We were so impressed by this very charming Texas cottage. It is decorated so adorably cozy. Everywhere you turn it is filled with well thought out detail and amenities to make our stay comfortable. We loved sitting on the porch watching our dogs play in the fenced yard. I loved sitting on the deck early morning listening to the birds, watching for deer and having a cup of coffee or tea from the exceptionally well stocked adorable country kitchen. At night with the tiny twinkling lights in the yard and on the house it feels magical and romantic sitting on the porch. The host was always quick and pleasant to respond to my questions. It was a great location for us as we visited friends who live between Brenham and Bellville. Washington on the Brazos is just down the country road. Chappell Hill has some quaint shops, historic churches and nice restaurants. We travel often, have stayed in a variety of places, and must say we thoroughly enjoyed this cottage and would love to go back someday!

What a lovely review! Thanks for noticing and appreciating the small touches. It was a pleasure to host you. I appreciate your cleanliness. Thank you for leaving the cottage in great shape. Wishing you incredible adventures in your travels!
We spent the July 4th weekend at this charming place. It was exceptionally clean and has a very well stocked kitchen. You won’t need to take anything except your food and drinks. The front porch is delightful for drinking your morning coffee. It reminded us of my wife’s grandmother’s front porch. Our dog loved exploring the front yard which is completely fenced. The host was great at communicating with us. A great place to escape for some quiet time or Chapell Hill’s July 4th parade.
Cottage was quaint and cozy, a little close to the road, but not an issue unless you are on the porch. Internet speed was slow for streaming and outside areas could use some cleaning. Overall we enjoyed the relaxing getaway on a rainy weekend.

Thank you so much for giving us a 10 out of 10 rating. We're glad you found the cottage quaint and cozy, and that it still gave you a relaxing getaway despite the rainy weather. We use Starlink for WiFi, which is normally very fast, so the severe thunderstorms likely caused some temporary interruptions to the signal — we appreciate you flagging it so we can keep an eye on it. The recent storms likely affected the outdoor areas as well, and we'll make sure everything is freshened up for future guests. Thank you again, and we hope to host you for another getaway soon.

Why they chose this property
Historic Chappell Hill (population of 300) is known for its historic architecture, rich cultural heritage, the annual Bluebonnet Festival in Spring and Scarecrow Festival in the Fall. Founded in 1847, it's located in Washington County, which is in Stephen F. Austin's original colony. He is known as the "Father of Texas" and played a significant role in the colonization of Texas by bringing the first group of American settlers to the region in 1821. He was appointed by the Mexican government as an empresario (land agent) to bring 300 families to settle in Texas.
Most of the German immigrants who settled in Washington County were primarily farmers and craftsmen. They were attracted to the area by the fertile soil and the promise of land ownership. They brought with them their language, culture, and traditions and established their own communities, churches, and schools that taught in the German language. They also introduced new crops to the area, such as grapes and peaches, which helped to diversify the local agriculture.
The birthplace of Texas is considered to be Washington-on-the-Brazos. It was here that delegates from across Texas met in 1836 to sign the Texas Declaration of Independence, officially declaring Texas as a separate republic from Mexico. This event paved the way for the Texas Revolution, a critical moment in Texas history. There are several historical sites and museums that commemorate this important event in Texas history, including the Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site and the Star of the Republic Museum.
