About this property

Oceanfront- Sea Gem Cottage

Sea Gem Cottage is an oceanfront home six miles south of Newport, Oregon. Our home now has two bedrooms, one bathroom, and a loft. The entire house has been completely remodeled with the additional bedroom and loft added as of February 2016.

There are bamboo floors throughout the house and travertine tiles in the bathroom. The home is decorated with modern furnishings. There are spectacular views of the beach and surf from every room of the house. The bedrooms have queen beds with storage drawers and wardrobes for your extended stay. The downstairs great room has seating for 6 at the dining table and a wall mounted Smart television with basic cable.

Stairs from the great room lead up to the loft area. Here you can find two twin beds on the garden side of the loft and a lounge area on the ocean side.

The house sits on a 40 foot tall bluff with a private path and stairs leading to the beach. The beach stretches for miles in either direction allowing for long walks on the beach where you rarely encounter another person.

This place was truly amazing! Pros: amazing ocean views, very clean and well stocked, bonus bedroom in the loftCons: right next to HWY 101, you have to back out on the HWY as there is no turn around spot.

Wonderful retreat

We were here years ago and were so excited to see that Sea Gem had added the second bedroom and loft, so we were able to take our whole family. The place is small but well thought out and very cozy. The location is quiet, and the ocean right out the back window is beautiful. Our kids wanted to move in! Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Beautiful view, clean house. Lots of dishes and cookware, cute furnishings and decor. Josh was so fast with response to any questions. The only drawback was the driveway. Very hard to see traffic to back out. Maybe cut down the bush blocking the view or better yet, use the front area of house for a turn around.

Excellent little spot

The Sea Gem was perfect for our little family vacation. We stayed about 4 days and the house was great! It was so relaxing and great views of the ocean. Communication with Josh was very prompt. We will definitely stay again :)

Perfect retreat

We had an amazing time in this gorgeous home. Everything in the house is thoughtful and beautiful, and the sea views were spectacular (we saw whales spouting!). The beach was awesome and fairly easy to access, and the host was responsive and very helpful. We loved it!

The Very Best - AGAIN

We try to stay at the Sea Gem once or twice a year, and it is ALWAYS such a WONDERFUL stay. We have rented dozens of places at the coast and there is NONE that even comes close. The location, the property, Josh our host, layout, amenities all combine for the BEST place we have ever stayed. We are to the point where if the Sea G m is not available we postpone our trip to the coast until a date when the Sea Gem is available. The VERY BEST - AGAIN and EVERY TIME. Awesome Stay!

We had a wonderful time. The kids loved the loft space and we loved the view of the beach from the window. Everything in the beach house was clean and it was a comfortable stay. A very enjoyable stay and a place we would stay at again. I would recommend taking the time to back into the driveway when parking as the highway where the cottage is located can get very busy and backing out onto it is dodgy on a stormy day with vision obscured.

Pre King Tides

This property is awesome. This particular location, on the beach, was perfect. And the Ocean put on a show. Waves breaking right in front of us. Watching the changing tides for hours was so peaceful and good for the soul. Unfortunately during our stay it rained most of the time. So didn't get to spend time on the beach but that was okay. Beautiful furnishings and lacked nothing.

Fantastic as per usual

This is our second time staying here and both times it has been absolutely wonderful. The cottage is comfortable, quiet, and private; it’s perfect for a family vacation or even if you have to do some remote working like I did. It’s a very cute space that is well furnished, clean, comfortable and has everything one could need to cook your own meals. The ocean view from the backyard is spectacular and the property manager is excellent to deal with. We will definitely come back again next year!

Fabulous

What a lovely stay! The place was clean and you couldn’t ask for a better view and beach access. Backing out of the driveway is tricky but doable. The climb down to the beach could be hard for older people. Make note that there is only a toaster oven, no oven. We absolutely loved it though. It’s quaint and comfortable! We will be back again! It’s adorable!

Beautiful Place!

Beautiful and well appointed property. The owners put a lot of thought into this place. The covered deck in the back is perfect for watching the sun set over the ocean. The driveway is very narrow. We managed a multi point turn at the end of the driveway so that we didn’t have to back out into oncoming traffic. This is the same driveway situation for many properties along the ocean. I would here again.

Beautiful!

The views are unbelievable. Gorgeous, stunning, and panoramic. Can walk the wide, empty beach for what seems like forever, right from the cottage after getting down its steps laid in rock. Cottage was lovely, exactly as shown in pictures. Immaculate, every detail perfect, and high-end. Master bed so comfortable we wanted to bring it home. So nice to open the slider door to hear the waves crashing as you fall asleep and wake up. Loved the long, back porch. Saw whales breaching offshore on three afternoons. An easy ten-minute drive into Newport for some great restaurants recommended by host. Was a beautiful, relaxing stay. Perfect for our anniversary. We will be back.

Very relaxing

Quiet, peaceful , didn't want to come home. Everything about this home was outstanding. Lots of little touches to make our stay great. The deck made for the perfect place to watch the ocean and lay in the sun and nap . On a day of rain the house was perfect for quiet reading as the house is almost soundproof , hardly knew the hiway was there.. On a clear night the dark sky made it possible to see the Milky Way which we haven't seen for years at home because of all the light pollution . With the traffic it it best to back-in the drive to make pulling out easier and safer. It was the perfect place to spend our 58th anniversary and we hope to be able to return. It is definitely our new favorite place to stay at the coast.

Sea Gem

Beautiful little cottage, very tastefully decorated and lovely furnishings. However, it's bear bones. Not even an extra garbage bag. If you pack it in, you pack it out so you better bring what you want. The driveway opens onto Hwy 101 and there's not enough room to turn around. You have to back out onto the Hwy so bring along a partner to direct the traffic.

It was a wonderful house, sitting on a bluff about 20 ft up from surfline. High tide almost brings the ocean right to your doorstep (only 20 ft below). We had the beach pretty much to ourselves which was nice. House was immaculate from top to bottom. Quality kitchen, cookware and utensils. All fixtures were modern and easy to use. As 73 year-olds, we found the couch a bit uncomfortable for sitting a period of time and would have preferred adjustable chairs, but the beds were very comfortable. Only suggestion we have would be to have a railing to help you down the pathway rocks to the beach. All considered, a very nice place and will likely revisit. Our thanks to Josh.

Beautiful and easy property to get around

We were supposed to have two others stay with us but they didn't end up coming. The place is very easy for o Elderly or disabled to walk around. People that can't do steps would enter from the back and I believe the master with the slider to the back porch has no steps to get on to the balcony there. Beautiful views from most everywhere in this small house. It says it sleeps four, but there's a loft upstairs with twin beds and a big sofa great for extra kids or teens. The two bedrooms downstairs are queen beds. The decor is charming and sea motif. All anyone would need. Bought my own creamer for making coffee which they have Folgers, which was fine unless you're a coffee snob. Which I can be but just wanted something to have to wake up to. It's very minimalist which I like, but has everything you need. Warm and cozy, loved having a washer and dryer available. We will definitely come back one of our new favorite places to stay.

We have enjoyed spending time on the Oregon Coast for years and fell in love with the Sea Gem Cottage the moment we first met/stayed! When we aren't spending time at the Sea Gem ourselves, we enjoy allowing others to experience the beauty and calmness of oceanfront living.

Why they chose this property

The Newport area is the most beautiful and scenic part of the Oregon Coast in our opinion. There is abundant wildlife as well as the conveniences of a nearby city. Whales and seals have been viewed from the cottage. Seagulls and pelicans fly by the windows and float in the wind. The privacy granted by having a house on the ocean cannot be matched by a hotel or condo.

What makes this property unique

The cottage was built in the 1960's, but has been completely remodeled with tasteful, modern decor, yet keeping some of the original charm. It was then added on to in 2016 to include a loft and second bedroom. It is challenging to find modern properties with beach access on the Oregon Coast, and this cottage will not disappoint.
