Great place to Stay for the MV 1/2 Marathon

The home was cute and clean. We enjoyed our stay. The bedrooms are spread apart in different parts of the home which provided our group of friends more privacy. Home is super convenient to Vineyard Haven and short drives to Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. Be aware that IPhone Maps does not map the home's location well, use google maps or the written directions they give you.

A comfortable stay

Thank you Sharon for all your help while we stayed at your house. We had a great time on Martha's Vineyard and enjoyed your comfortable house. The morning coffee outside in the garden was a treat. Being so close to the downtown helped a lot. Thanks again.

The property was convenient and easily accessible

We had a couple issues. The cable was out for a day and the refrigerator didn’t really keep our food cold. The freezer worked. Also, there were several spiders in the house. The house needs some upgrades. But, overall we had a good time.

Home Away from Home

The Larrier House was the perfect vacation home for my family and I. The home is warm and welcoming. The spacious and comfortable rooms made us feel right at home. A gorgeous back yard with an herb garden that made our barbecue nights delicious! The house did not include linen, but the Takemmy linen service was timely and delivered to the house. We loved the accessibility to downtown Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs. We love Nancy's Restaurant! I would definitely recommend this property to other family members, friends and others. The owner sent helpful information about the island including maps, special attractions, restaurants, and the arts. It was truly a special vacation and I can't wait to book this property again.

Character

A wonderful week of experiences, great weather, and a lovely home to share with my family. I could not have asked for a better way to spend our vacation. Plenty of space, including the outdoor patio, for our group of nine, and everything we needed for some home cooking too!

Quintessential Martha's Vineyard

The Larrier House is everything you could want in Martha's Vineyard rental home. The location is central to everything on the island. You can walk into Vineyard Haven, or take the convenient bus that stops just outside. The home is warm and inviting. The owner goes out of her way to provide information on what to do in Martha's Vineyard, which made our stay that much more enjoyable. The rooms are large and well furnished. The outdoor garden is a lovely place to relax. We grilled several times, and took full advantage of the large backyard. Our boys played soccer on the back yard lawn, and had a soccer field 3x the size of our yard at home. Owner must be a gourmet chef, as the kitchen was very well stocked with a wide range of tools, utensils, etc. that only a gourmet chef would use. We look forward to returning next year.

BEST thing ever

This house felt more like a home! The decor was very pleasant and the backyard was the families favorite place to sit and bond. Overall, a great experience! I have it in my future plans to return to my "home away from home"! :)

Great House, Great Accommodations, Great Location

The accommodations were great. Everything was very clean and in all the places they needed to be. I might be a bit of neat freak but everything in the house seemed as if it was already in the places they were supposed to be so I was able to relax. The beds were comfortable, the sheets were clean, and I made full use of the complete set of cook wear an the garden. On the kitchen wall there are recipes and I used at least three of them. They were good and I wished I had written them down. I'll have to go back and make sure I write them down next time. It s extremely close to "downtown" Vineyard Haven which is right where the ferry lets you off and where the grocery store is and Te Black Dog. Relatively close to beaches... there is some kind if method to choosing the beaches. I don't entirely know what it is but the few I'd been to had been to had very different feeling sand. And no one tole me the water was cold! IN AUGUST THE WAS WAS COLD! My advice is to use the beech amenities and be prepared for cold water. I've been to other houses on the vineyard and this is certainly one of the best. I will be very disappointed in on my next trip I'm unable to book the Larrier House.

Feels like home!

This property is the most comfortable place on the VIneyard. Offering simple amenities like towels and sheets that often unavailable in other rentals. it has all the convenience of a hotel, but the comfort and feel of a true family vacation spot that allows for cooking and meals together. The owner is attentive and responsive and seems to invest in the home. High-end sheets and a flat screen tv are in every room with tons of board games and books. Walking distance to the ferry and grocery store. I will definitely stay here again.

Great house and an easy walk

My family rented the Larrier House. I couldn't beleive how nice it was inside. The furniture was great. The best thing about the house was its location. The bus stop is steps from the house --so it is convenient but not noisy. Plus you can walk to town in no time. It was a great family vacation.

Charming!

This 19th century farmhouse retains it's rustic charm, but adds the convenience of walking distance to shops and returnats. It's also close to the ferry and beaches. The property is fenced -- great for kids. The bedrooms look fresh and colorful and the matress in the downstairs bedroom (where I slept) was super comfortable. the kitchen has new appliances that make eating in a pleasure. It's everything you need to relax and enjoy Martha's Vineyard.

Why they chose this property

The Wampanoag Native Americans called Martha’s Vineyard Noepe which means 'In the Midst of the Sea.' Martha's Vineyard is the largest island on the southeastern coast of Massachusetts. It is twenty miles long and nine miles wide and contains six towns; Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, West Tisbury, Chilmark Aquinnah and Tisbury. Tisbury includes Vineyard Haven which was the name given to the area around the post office.

The Larrier family, originally from Barbados, came through Ellis Island and settled in New York City. The family has a generational relationship with the island. The family included famers, small business owners, importers exporters, doctors and lawyers. The house and its occupants share a proud history of survival and accomplishments.

The Larrier House was built in 1870, five years after the Civil War and survived the Great Fire of 1883 which wiped out almost all of downtown Vineyard Haven.

The Larrier House is now a vacation home and available for you to make your own memories and history.

What makes this property unique

If you want to leave the oversized fully fenced large backyard and venture into town, you will find that the house is a short walk to downtown Vineyard Haven. There you will find great restaurants, a book store, a grocery store, a pharmacy, ice cream, many shops, the beach and the ferry. The house is also on a bus route, making it easy to visit other town without a car.

Martha’s Vineyard has a great bus system! The bus is a “flag stop company” which means in addition to set stops, the bus will stop for you if you flag it down and are standing on the side of the road in the direction you want to go. Taking the bus from the Larrier House: All you have to do is leave the Larrier House, walk to the sidewalk, flag the bus and it will stop and pick you up. The bus leaves downtown Vineyard Haven ever 15 minutes starting at 7 minutes past the hour. The Number 1 bus will take you to downtown Edgartown.
