About this property

Glamour Mountain Getaway by Casa Oso with spa

Casa Oso Oakhurst is an excellent gathering place for family and friends in the Sierra Nevada only 20 minutes from the south gates of Yosemite National Park. This private modern house provides breathtaking views from an enormous outdoor living area, which includes a private spa. This jewel sits on 5 acres near the thriving mountain city of Oakhurst, with easy access to the park, but also to charming Bass Lake with water attractions and a beach. House has fast internet and a free EV charger.

This freshly renovated, one-story house creates a beautiful atmosphere with spacious and luxurious common areas, an electric fireplace and the spa.

The attractiveness of the open living room comes from its high ceilings, diverse seating arrangements, mountain views and the warmth of the fireplace. Guests can enjoy movie nights in the living room on the large flat screen TV or even play board game tournaments to their delight.

The three bedrooms are furnished with attention to detail, with furniture and accessories designed to provide maximum comfort for every guest. All three bedrooms are equipped with a king-size bed and a bench or chair. The master bedroom has direct private access to the patio and spa area, and includes its own bathroom with a shower. It also includes an additional sleeping ottoman which can be prepared as a single bed upon request. On additional request, the master can be equipped with up to 2 baby cribs. Guests occupying the two smaller bedrooms share a common bathroom with tub.

All guests have access to a washer, dryer, and ping-pong table.

Guests have full and exclusive access to the property.

Three parking spots are available next to the house. EV charger is available to guests after downloading an app. The charging is free.

Trash pick-ups are done on Monday and Thursday. Landscaping maintenance happens every other Wednesday.

The area in general requires a car for commute. Close-by country roads have little traffic, so they can be used for walking, jogging, biking or horseback riding.

Host lives in the neighborhood and if needed can be available. Best way to communicate is by sending Airbnb messages.

To get around the neighborhood and between Oakhurst, Mariposa and Yosemite National Park you will need a car. There is no public transportation or taxi transportation in the area that can replace car transportation and getting to the house.

Yosemite National Park South Gate Entrance in Fish Camp is 20 min drive from Casa Oso at Lonesome Oak. Travel times get longer during weekend rush hours and holidays.

Please use a paved road to access the house during rain and snow. A fully paved road runs through the Oakhurst and Yosemite Forks. The road to the house through Ahwahnee is not fully paved.

The property is not fenced and is located in a secluded place. All of the soundings of Yosemite National Park, including urban areas, have the component of wildlife. Some of the local animals that can be observed on a daily basis include deer, turkeys, squirrels, hawks, and rabbits. Not as common animals to see but living in the area are coyotes, bears, mountain lions, raccoons, opossum, skunk, rattlesnakes, tarantulas, and scorpions. Poison oak and poison ivy are also elements of local flora.

All of California, including the Sierra Nevada area, is seasonally experiencing wildfires which are natural occurrences in the area. Some of the species like sequoias need fire to reproduce. Wildfires are likely to happen between June and November.

Well Appointed Home in a Peaceful Setting
A group of us (4 friends) stayed for two nights in late May to visit nearby Yosemite National Park. The home is clean, bright, open, well-decorated, and spacious. The beds, pillows, and linens are comfortable. The kitchen is well-appointed and we were able to cook and eat 4 meals with ease and comfort. We appreciated that everything in the kitchen was labeled and easy to find. The spa was set up for us and ready for use. The views from the backyard are beautiful and the setting is very quiet. We also appreciated the large screen TV and the assortment of games. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay.

Yosemite Homebase
This was an absolutely remarkable way to experience Yosemite via an outside-the-park stay. So much so, that my fiancée and I enjoyed our time at Casa Oso nearly as much as we enjoyed the park itself! The location is as remote as advertised. Sunrises with a cup of coffee from the vantage point of the patio are sublime. Stargazing at night from the hot tub was dreamlike. Inside, the property felt equal parts homey and upscale. Maja was beyond helpful as a host, as she responded immediately to our messages and provided thorough communication throughout the entire process. It worked wonderfully for my fiancée and I, but I imagine it’s even better shared with another couple or two smaller families. Can’t recommend this property enough!

Good, but needs much more attention to detail
Cons: When booking, everything should be in perfect working order and have adequate grilling utensils for those who like to cook. The non-stick pan was NOT non-stick. Knives were cheap. The property needed a non-stick grill plate which would make BBQing easier, cleaner and better. We had immediate problems with the BBQ grill propane tank that kept shutting off. Being a very handy DIY guy, I unhooked the gas line, shook the tank, adjusted the regulator and adjusted the supply line. It worked fine afterwards. Ice maker was frozen and would not dispense ice, so I removed the ice cube bin, thawed it, cleaned it and re-activated. The freezer door water dispenser was laughable. It would take several minutes to fill a small glass, so we removed the water filter from the refrigerator and tried cleaning it. The sediment emitted was unacceptable. So, we drove to the store and bought cases of water. The coffee maker was super cheap and didn't work properly. We had to tilt the coffee pot on the spring loaded filter basket to allow the brewed coffee to fill the decanter. When paying big bucks per night, everything should work perfectly! Instead, we spent hours of aggravation fixing problems so we could finally relax and enjoy the stay. In hindsight, we should have just brought our own stuff! Master shower is very small. Property needs hardscape walking stones from the back patio to the outdoor jacuzzi to not track grass, dirt or mud into the jacuzzi. We had wet, wintry weather which made it challenging. Nearby Yosemite Wawona access was closed and might remain closed for a long time. We had no choice but to drive to the ONLY access to the park via Highway 140 to El Portal. It took about 1 1/2 hours each way with very little traffic. 10am checkout is too early and the policy needs reconsideration. Most hotels allow for 11am or later check-out and you don't have to make your own breakfast, clean, pack food, beverages and take out trash etc. It was very frustrating dealing with problems upon arriving at the property and equally as much having to rush to vacate the property. Pros: House is nicely appointed, clean, has comfortable beds, nice layout, covered rear patio, great privacy and we loved the salt water jacuzzi.

Nice getaway
We went here to celebrate my son for his 12th bday. The kids all loved the house and there was a lot of space for everyone. We got there at night and there are two roads you can take (one paved and one unpaved). We made the mistake the first night and then learned the right way subsequently. It has a beautiful view of the sunrise and everything felt very easy and manageable.

Book this home!
This is by far my favorite vacation home I’ve ever stayed in. The home is nestled at the top of a hill, close to town but you feel a million miles away from any disruptions when your here. The home is really spacious, but the decor, design and layout make the home feel cosy. The home was better than the photos. The beds are really comfortable, kitchen is well equipped and there are personal touches throughout. The spa was so relaxing, you can see the stars so clearly and we saw families of deer a few times. Maya was an excellent host and really responsive. Would definitely stay here again.
