Communication was fantastic. It was a great location and easy to find. The house was clean and very comfortable. The only issues: WiFi was not working but in this case, was not needed. Bicycles were advertised but not there, and there weren’t as many pots and pans as we thought there would be. Also, there was no broom or vacuum inside the house but the owner responded immediately saying they may have been put away in the cleaning closet. No complaints and would definitely rent again.

Host was super nice & accommodating. We didn’t have dishwasher pods & she brought some right over. Plenty of space, big hot tub, plenty of towels & toiletries, very clean. We loved our stay, only downside was the water smells pretty bad.

As stated in our listing description, we have 3 bedrooms on the second floor and our full bathroom is on the first floor. This is an older fishing cottage and our staircase is more narrow and steeper then new build homes; but common for anyone who has stayed in an older home/farmhouse/cottage.

Charming cottage, great amenities, hot tub was a bonus and location convenient to fun spots! Lots of room and updated decor was tasteful as well…We will be back for sure!

Family Vacation To Buckeye Lake

All in all we really enjoyed our time at this VRBO. The hot tub was great and you can tell well cared for - we used it multiple times a day during our trip. The hands-down best part was the amenities for children. The train table, highchair, crib and baby gate made the stay very family-friendly.

Had a great time very nice property. Kids loved the rooms. Wife loved the soaking tub. Easy to get to and very quiet relaxing place. Would recommend to family's or singles just a great time. Lots of memories.

Canary Cottage is something to chirp about

Great experience. Proximity to Buckeye Lake was overestimated. Only way it could take 6 minutes is if I crawled home from Boo's. Would certainly rent the place again, and bring Mom, Dad, and dog with me!

This is a large home and some portions were well done… coffee bar, bathroom, laundry all very nice.The first thing that should be mentioned to anyone thinking of staying here is the water quality is HORRIBLE! Very heavy sulfur smell and slimy to bathe in. If I had known about the water we would have never booked the place. Secondly the keypad to get in needs replaced immediately! You cannot read one number because of the scratches. The queen room mattress is like a futon with a sink hole. Upgrade this immediately! The couch had a sink hole too and everything had stains! There was literally 4 mismatched towels, 3 plastic warped wine glasses, and a damp basement mildew smell to the house. Nice hot tub, decent mattress in the master, ample spices, and toilet paper. The location can’t be beat if you like to go out and listen to live music. A very short walk to Papa Boos. This house could be so much better with a few upgrades… water softeners, new towels and bedding, better mattresses, and shave down that bathroom door! Is is such an easy fix! Not being able to close a bathroom door is a real problem with a very simple fix! We won’t stay here again, but it was fun to be so close to everything, and we definitely enjoyed the hot tub!

Always appreciate feedback. A few notes; our bathroom door appeared to have been yanked on and pulled from the hinges. This was fixed as soon as you checked out (and we would’ve been happy to fix while you were there had we been notified). We ARE on well water and this is stressed in our listing. We have both a softer and a Kinetico iron filter system installed in our home. We have replaced couches since this stay and will do a count on towels and glasses and be sure they are appropriately stocked and stain free. Our mattresses are all Zinus memory foam; most of our guests love them however they are not for everyone.

Spacious home in a convenient location

Spacious home on a relatively private neighborhood lot. All the basic amenities were included. Smart TVs in all the bedrooms and living room. A comfortable home for a family stay, and our family includes our 3 small dogs.The host was accommodating of our furry friends, only a modest pet fee was added. Nice outdoor space with a large yard on one side of the home, and a deck with hot tub plus parking on the other. The property is near, but not on the lake. But you can see it from the driveway. Overall, a great value for the price!

Disappointing Stay

My family and I arrived to a mess. There were dead bugs, horrible smells, animal urine, feces, unclean items, and areas. We spent two days cleaning just to feel comfortable in the space. It was that bad. We were thankful to have a laundry room to help with dirty bedding and towels. I would not return to this rental. This house is in dire need of a deep clean, replacement of items, and a remodel.

We have plenty of other reviews on this home the represent that this is not at all accurate. When the guest contacted us we immediately came out. They were upset about bugs being outside on the deck, and leaves and sticks, again outside. Our hospitality manager was there several hours and did absolutely everything they asked for. The real sticking points were that this wasn't a lakefront property, and the bedrooms are on the second floor and bathroom is on the first floor; all of which was clearly reflected in our listing. Please read through all our other reviews that span several years.

Needs Maintenance

You can tell this property was once nice, but it is in desperate need of maintenance. The hot tub lid was ripped, there was trash sitting around outside, the outdoor furniture was unusable, broken and moldy. The hot tub had clearly not been cleaned, there was a lot of dirt and debris at the bottom, we did not get in. The inside was pretty clean but it needs a deep clean. The window seals have not been cleaned in years a thick layer of dust and dirt were caked on. The stairs were covered in dog hair and dirt, especially the white edge going up. I did not feel comfortable not wearing shoes inside. comforters all needed washed, sheets were clean but good thing we brought our own blankets because there was not even a top sheet on the master bed. The water smells really bad, I get its near a lake but I think the well needs shocked. There were some positives, our kids loved the train table and the toys. The back yard was nice, we spent a lot of our time in the back. It was within walking distance to a few restaurants. You definitely can't see the lake from this home, like advertised. Expensive for what you get.

House was very clean. Neighbors were very nice. And the host was very understanding and easy to get in touch with. If I had any problems, if given a chance I will come back. Also excellent fishing spots. Wish we were able to use a hot tub, but we were not able to because it was not clean. But overall great place.

Family weekend trip

We booked this house for a weekend family trip. We traveled into Columbus each day for Quarter Horse Congress, and the house was very convenient to the interstate. We stopped each morning at the Buckeye Lake Coffee Company on the way to Columbus, and enjoyed their seasonal drinks. The location was quiet and within a short distance to shopping and restaurants. The communication with the host was great and it was a very easy check in and check out process. The house was clean and had everything we needed. We didn't get a chance to try out the hot tub on this trip. We did really appreciate the welcome basket! There was only one bathroom downstairs and as others have stated, the staircase is very narrow - so my grandmother slept in the living room on the lower level. There was plenty of space for just the four of us. We were happy to have found this rental and hope this community continues to allow rentals in the future.

Good location, not great for tall people.

Good location. Close proximity to the lake and Papa Boo’s. Kids loved the hot tub. Plenty of room for all of us (4 adults and 3 kids). If you’re tall, though, this may not be the house for you. I’m 6’7” and couldn’t stand up straight in the kitchen. Hit my head on low beams a couple times. One other member of our party is 6’5” and the the low beams got him a couple times as well. Just be aware that you’ll need to consistently duck your head in the kitchen area if you’re 6’4”+.

Nice home

Everything about the property was very nice. We had considered taking my 80 year old parents with us and am very glad we didn’t. All 3 bedrooms are up a very narrow staircase and the only bathroom is on the first floor off the kitchen at back of house. It was ok for us, although inconvenient. Everything else about the house was fine.
