Where mountain farmhouse luxury meets studio cottage, this one bedroom, one bath studio called Walnut Hill Cottage is just a short distance to downtown West Jefferson and its many restaurants, art galleries and quaint shops.

As you wind up the paved drive, you will find 4+ acres at this estate that looks down on West Jefferson. Take in the seasonal mountain and town views while your cares melt away. Please note that the main house is rented out separately as Walnut Hill, or if you decide to bring the entire family you can rent both as Walnut Hill Estate.

This spacious upstairs studio style cottage is expertly designed and decorated in luxury farmhouse style. Complete with seating, a comfy king-sized bed, kitchen, dining table, and bath with step-in shower, it accommodates two with plenty of place. A smart TV is also provided as well as Wi-Fi.

In the kitchen, you will find everything you will need for preparing a quick meal and there’s even a Keurig for that morning cup of coffee.

Outside, you will find a firepit for roasting marshmallows or just spending a quiet evening under a starry sky.

When you are ready to venture out, West Jefferson offers numerous restaurants, breweries, quaint smalltown shops, and antique stores. You can walk downtown and watch cheese being made at Ashe County Cheese-the only cheese factory in North Carolina, or catch a movie at one of two movie theaters. It could use a few extra amenities (i.e. coffee, creamer, shampoo...) but overall, it was a good visit.

Romantic apartment

Apartment is beautifully decorated and close to downtown (about 1/2 mile). Very clean and in a quiet private area. Bed is very comfortable with nice linens. Only downsides are the wifi was very weak and mostly unusable, and the cleaning and other fees doubled the price of the room.

Reviewer Comments: Nice cottage if you like climbing steps to get into the house and going to the bath bath and going to the kitchen also when you use the toilet the bath room is so small when you sit down on the toilet the door sets between your legs no hand rails in shower or at toilet the cottage is not handy cap friendly. I was not asked if I needed any special needs.everything is done on computer

It was just stunning. So clean and so updated. We were thrilled with this property. One tiny suggestion to the owners. This is only meant to be helpful and should not be seen as something horribly negative. I believe the internet and Wi-fi needs to be updated. We had spotty at best television service and no Wi-fi for phones the entire stay. I tried resetting but that didn't seem to help. It was NOT a big deal. This is just a suggestion in case the equipment may need updating. Just a wonderful stay. THANK YOU!

Cute cottage!

My husband and I really liked this cottage. Its immaculate! The location is right outside of West Jefferson but you’ll take a private road up a hill and you feel very secluded. The bed was very comfortable with really nice linens and pillows. The larger house next door was unoccupied so not a sound from neighbors. Their are a couple of things to consider though.. The cottage has no over head covering not even a patio umbrella which we thought was weird because the bigger house actually has two covered porches. One night we had a nice fire in the fire pit and were getting ready to cook steaks on the (little) grill when it started pouring down rain we couldn’t even sit out side let alone cook! That was super disappointing! It rained for two days so we were stuck inside! Nice coffee machine but no coffee had to go to the store the first morning. All the doors need a shot of WD40.. super squeaky when one or the other person is sleeping. Dish towels would be great! And a screen on the doors so insects (bumble bees and wasps) 🐝 can’t just fly in! Lastly the kitchen window doesn’t lock so that too.. Hopefully they will make some small improvements to accommodate their guest! Otherwise great stay!

West Jefferson Get Away

The location of this VRBO is good in that it is in West Jefferson, but it isn't what we consider walking distance to the town or restaurants (except for a Pizza place). It is beside a larger home on the property that wasn't rented when we were there. The grounds are lovely as it's up on a small hill. This place is a little hard to find in that you have to turn between a truck sales lot and another commercial property, with the road not easily apparent..until you enter the property. Follow the instructions that will be emailed. The garage apartment is newly renovated with nice new furniture. There are steps to get up to the entry and then another large step up to get into each of the bathroom, closet, and kitchen. (If you have knee problems, this isn't the place for you.) There's a nice deck that we enjoyed. We had some problems adjusting the mini split to our preference. The first day and night we were freezing and the next two rather warm. The company offered to come out but we weren't around when the message came in. Later they didn't answer. The kitchen has a lot of cooking pots/pans, a microwave, and a full size refrigerator. There were no pods for the Keurig coffee maker. That should be identified on the listing, as we brought ground coffee. There were very tiny chips of packaged soap, so we had to go out and buy a bar of soap as well. Overall it was a nice stay with a decent location, other than a few minor inconveniences.
