Accommodations: Hand Hued Log Cabin, 1 bedroom, 2 bathroom (sleeps 6) Mulatto Mountain Hideaway, located near Fleetwood, NC, is a great gateway to a memorable mountain vacation in North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains. Our cabin was completed in the Spring of 2009, and is ready to welcome you to the Appalachian Mountains for a long weekend, a week, or a month away from it all.

'The Great Escape' offers a large, upper-level master bedroom with a King sized bed, as well as a full bath with a Jacuzzi tub and vanity with granite counter top, and a walk-in cedar closet. An upper level 15'x32' spacious deck provides a four place Hot Tub/Spa, two place swing, glider rocker, picnic table, and LP Gas Grill. A second spacious bathroom is located on the first level with an adjoining wet/dry sauna, and a two car garage. Additional amenities include a gas burning fireplace with a remote, flat screen TV with a blue ray DVD, two Ikea sleeper sofas, two large 5'x6' windows facing to the East and West, two large sliding glass doors leading to a spacious deck with panoramic bird's eye views from 3800 feet of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Grandfather Mountain, a large well equipped kitchen with an eight foot bar, wormy maple cabinets, and granite counter tops, a dining table with six chairs, and front loader washer and dryer. The cabin has a southern pine T&G interior throughout with oak hard wood flooring, and cathedral ceilings in the kitchen/dining area and sitting area where you will be able to feel the warmth

Treat yourself to the casual atmosphere fine dining of Crippen's Country Inn & Restaurant in Blowing Rock. Located in a quaint, Southern, side-street cottage, you will dine on an absolutely artistic creation designed for the season. Don't miss Canyon's Restaurant, the view is priceless!! Canyon's is inconspicuously built on a ridge where you can enjoy a burger, and a million dollar view! You cannot leave Blowing Rock without a stroll downtown where you have to visit Kilwin's homemade ice cream and candy store on Main Street, and let the kids play in the park which is the centerpiece of Main Street.

In Ashe County NC you can enjoy virtually any outdoor activity you can think of. Everything from fishing, biking, hiking, whitewater rafting, to skiing and golf can be found in and around Ashe County. Kayaking the New River is as easy as traveling the short distance to Riverside Kayak and Bike Rentals where they have kayaks, tubes, bikes, and horses. More adventurous activities can be found by rafting the Watauga or Nolichucky Rivers, spelunking the Linville Caverns, or hiking the Linville Gorge, all of which are within 40 minutes of Fleetwood. And, don't miss the most visited destination in NC, Grandfather Mountain, which can usually be seen from the cabin, with the mile high swinging bridge, the animal park, and more. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a favorite spot for many people. You can look out over the many overlooks and see miles and miles of the Blue Ridge Mountains across North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee. Enjoy biking, hiking, camping, and many other activities.

Best Cabin Ever
The beauty of this cabin high in the mountain range of the Appalachians is phenomenal! I would stay forever if I could! My husband and I returned to Great Escape after 12 years and it was still as breathtaking as the first time! Howard is great to work with!! 10/10

Mountain-top Cabin
Beautiful cabin with privacy and gorgeous views. Extra large kitchen had everything we needed. My husband loved that we could park in the garage. You definitely need AWD or FWD to get up the mountain! I would highly recommend this property.

Enjoyed our stay!
Lots of great things about this property and we had a really nice 3 day stay. Truthfully I wish I could give it 4.5 stars but that's not an option. 4 stars is too low and the 2 star review is just crazy. It's not supposed to be a 5 star hotel, it's a cabin in the mountains! +'s The view is as amazing as described/better in person than can be captured in pictures The hot tub is large and clean with a perfect view The large deck with seating and that view was also perfect As others have mentioned, the kitchen is very well equipped The location is very private which we loved We had several questions and the owner was prompt and friendly with his responses Having a garage to park in was really nice! (we've made many trips to the mountains and never had that option at a cabin before) Bed comfort is so subjective based on people's preferences. I liked it, my husband didn't love it. Definitely not something people should let deter them from staying here, in my opinion. -'s The road going up to the cabin was in terrible shape in several places so it was a rough ride. I didn't see many people commenting on it in reviews so I'm wondering if recent heavy rains might have caused some of the issues. Still not a reason not to stay in this cabin but be prepared that it will take quite a while to get up and down that 1.7 mile road. And I definitely wouldn't take any vehicles that are remotely close to the ground The couch isn't very comfortable Overall, a great place to stay!

Not as Expected
This stay was for our honeymoon we just had better expectations for the price we paid for a week. Pros : beautiful views / hot tub / great kitchen / easy check in / whole house to yourselves with privacy Cons: poor quality shower head / poor quality towels / new shower liner is needed / no actual couch like in photos but instead an uncomfortable futon and a twin bed like couch/ uncomfortable bed / not enough cleaning products for laundry and dishwasher left / the round chair in the living room smells like cat urine / no Keurig. The pool table is up against a wall in the garage with stuff around it so we couldn’t use it either and the water tasted chemically so we also had bought gallons of water to use as well. We tried to reach out to the owner via text because we didn’t get good cell service and we received no reply. We ended up leaving a day early because we could not sleep well in the bed and we even tried sleeping in the living room. I think if this was a short weekend trip it would have been more okay for us but we were here a whole week for our honeymoon and we expected better quality for the price. I’m normally not one for leaving reviews but I felt this review might be helpful to someone else planning a vacation.

Why they chose this property

I was looking to build an all wooden cabin with modern conveniences in a location that provided the best long range mountain views The Smokey Mountains had to offer, yet close to places to go for dining and activities. Southern Ashe County, 20 minutes from Boone, and close to West Jefferson, was the ideal place.

What makes this property unique

Privacy, Long Range panoramic views of The Great Smoky Mountains from 3800 feet.
