Beachy Vintage Vibe — Pet Friendly!

Hi Pam, First off, thanks for staying with us and thanks for your kind words. As stated in the listing description, the house is an old 1970's beach house (53 years old). And yes, the rental unit is on the ground level. This makes it easily susceptible to the whatever outdoor conditions we may be having on coastal South Carolina. It is very hot and humid here ...and I do believe during your stay that there was rainy weather. As stated in the listing description, the rental is surrounded by lots of unkempt flora and trees and is very shady. Therefore, not a lot of sunlight gets around the house to dry things out after rainfall. Therefore, perhaps the musty smell was from all the wet vegetation outside. Being on the ground level, this permeates through the wooden walls. Our place is very clean with no mold or mildew inside, so that is how I know the musty smell was coming from the outside. We do have a dehumidifier – as most older homes do in our extreme, humid climate. It helps keep the relative humidity indoors to 45%. Further, being and older home, I'm on the same page as you, our place is probably not an ideal spot for a person with allergies.

Mary, it's pretty obvious that you didn't read one bit of the listing description. It clearly states: "There is unkempt vegetation everywhere – there is no manicured lawn here." As for the sandbags, the rental is on the ground level so they help keep the water from coming in under the door. Sorry if they weren't brand new sandbags. And yes, in most homes over 50 years old, you're going to see a dehumidifier. Our climate is extremely humid and hot. As for the bugs, those were harmless, yet annoying, fruit flies. They are abundant in the late summer. I guess the previous guests left food out and they multiplied. So sorry about that. I could have sprayed for them had you brought it to my attention. As for kitchen towels, we provide paper towels. I did offer to bring you some kitchen towels, but you declined my offer. The ONLY other message you sent me was asking about a water filter. I did not respond as it should be obvious to you that there is a Brita water filter jug in the refrigerator for guests to use and not one attached to the kitchen sink. As for your nightly rate, $155 a night being that close to the beach is a steal. We are one of only a handful of extremely inexpensive rentals on the whole island, plus we are dog-friendly. Perhaps next time don't just look at the price, but instead read the listing description fully as to know what you are getting for your money.
