May 16 2026 This weekend marked the official opening of the scenic drive along Kings Canyon Scenic Byway, and it’s easily one of the most beautiful drives in California. Snowmelt is flowing strong, the canyon walls are glowing, and the waterfalls are putting on a show Mist Falls Trail Info: • Trailhead: Road’s End (end of the scenic byway) • Distance: ~9.6 miles round trip • Elevation Gain: ~800 ft • Time: 3 1/2 hours depending on pace • Trail follows the South Fork of the Kings River the entire way This trail is mostly gradual and perfect for soaking in canyon views before reaching the powerful Mist Falls at the end. With the recent snowmelt, the falls are absolutely roaring right now, definitely worth the hike! If you’ve been waiting for the road to open, now’s the time. Get out there and experience it while the water is at its peak #KingsCanyon #MistFalls #ScenicByway #CaliforniaHikes #HikingAdventures #WaterfallChasing

We truly enjoyed our stay! The home was clean, well stocked, and has the most gorgeous view (especially at night! The lights from the valley are stunning). Myself and my four adult/high school age kids were able to spread out with plenty of room and comfortable beds. The location worked just great for visiting King's Canyon and Sequoia. Our host, Peggy was attentive and accommodating. We would definitely stay here again!

Great host! It was a wonderful place to stay on our visit to Sequoia and King's Canyon National Parks. It was very quiet with an amazing view and gorgeous sunsets over the sea of clouds below. And we loved the wood stove!

This was a great place to stay--very quiet, roomy, and cozy. The hosts were welcoming and very responsive, we asked for more matches and they brought them immediately! The furnace made the home very cozy and the hosts provided more than enough firewood. Kitchen was well-stocked with everything we needed, as well as the bathroom and living room. We would love to come back and stay here again! Thank you Peggy!

We enjoyed our stay at Sundew, immensely!
Great place to unwind after visiting the national parks. The sunset view was beautiful, the home had dishes and cookware available to use and other amenities that made our stay a cozy home away from home.

This cute cabin was a great little home away from home. Close to the parks and plenty of room. Peggy was a wonderful hostess, very attentive and provided everything we needed to make our stay pleasant and comfortable. Rustic comfort at its best. Definitely recommend!

Robin was a wonderful guest and we would love to have her back anytime! She left our place very tidy.
This was our first VRBO stay, and we would do it again. Check in was easy, the house was very homey and we slept extremely well something that usually does not happen at hotels.

spacious room and very quiet place with good view. We like the fully equipped kitchen and washer and dryer. Check in and check out is very smooth and contactless. Everything is great.
Overall the property was very clean and the hosts were great and very accommodating. Kitchenware was very dated and many items could not be used due to poor quality. Drive to Sequoia was at least 1.5 hours.
Easy check-in, property is secluded but also a quick drive away from Sequoia NP which made it a great place to relax after spending the day exploring the park. Photos are accurate and property is clean, beds are comfortable, and has a spacious common area. Appreciated the complimentary wine upon arrival - will be sure to reserve a tasting next time!

Jesse you and your family were awesome and left our place very clean and we are glad you enjoyed your stay, we would love to have you back anytime! Thank you!
If you are looking for a vacation home close to King's Canyon that is not located within the park, this is a great option. About a 20 minute drive back and forth and the experience of staying more remote than rooms in the park. Bear Mountain pizza was awesome!
