About the host
Hosted by Kristy Lee
I’ve lived in northern Virginia for most of my life while raising 4 children. We discovered Reedville a couple years ago while searching for a vacation spot. We fell in love with the welcoming people, the laid back spirit and the natural surroundings. My husband retired from his Washington, DC job in order to make a permanent move to Reedville. We were lucky enough to purchase the Gables and are now embarking on a new adventure as bed and breakfast owners.
Why they chose this property
The Gables is an iconic, federally registered historic landmark which welcomed guests for many years. As new owners, we are remodeling the Victorian and the Coach House Inn with plans to re-open as a bed and breakfast. In the meantime, we are inviting guests to stay at the Waterfront Cottage, an open studio with cathedral ceilings, which has hosted visitors from all over the world. Due to the ongoing renovations, the Victorian and the Coach House Inn will not be accessible at this time. We hope that your Cottage stay will move you to repeat your visit so that we can provide a full tour of this historically significant property once the renovations are done. Until then, we encourage you to bring your fishing gear and/or kayak and enjoy the opportunity to fish, crab, harvest oysters and relax on the hammock. We also invite you to simply walk around and do nothing while taking in the amazing views of Cockrell's Creek.
What makes this property unique
Guests will have full access to all the outdoor spaces. When all renovations are done, all outdoor spaces will be a shared; however, at this time, only cottage guests are using the grounds. There is a patio with a charcoal grill, a wood burning pizza oven, a gas stove, a gas fire pit, wood burning fire pit and plenty of outdoor seating. All outdoor cooking gear is equipped with the essentials (fire starter, charcoal, wood, tongs, thermometer, etc.). The docks are available for fishing, crabbing or just taking in the views. There is also a fully stocked wood burning fire pit area which is an ideal place for relaxing while star gazing. The hammock and love seat swing are also splendid ways to while away the hours.
