St. Louis River 3 Bedroom Home with Incredible View

This home is located on a private dirt road on the St. Louis River. Enjoy the incredible view or get out on the river to enjoy. The home is located on 5 acres, with 230+ feet of river frontage. There are two primitive and steep trails down to river. Launch your boat, kayak, or canoe at the nearby boat launch and explore!

We highly recommend AWD for winter guests.

We like to give our guests privacy, but are one of the residents of the road and are available to help as things come up!

We are minutes from Mont du Lac ski hill and recreation area. Mont du Lac offers skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, snowshoeing, and snow tubing at our OUTTA BOUNDS tubing park. In the summer, Mont du Lac offers Big River Tubing, Big Kahuna waterpark, Big Timber Playground, the Slooper Slide, disc golf, archery, mountain biking, the bark park, a pristine, sandy beach, and a marina with jet ski and watercraft rentals in the summer.

Jay Cooke State Park is right across the river! At Jay Cooke, you will find cross country ski trails, mountain biking trails, hiking, The Willard Munger State Trail, Grand Portage Trail, Oldenburg Overlook, the river gorge, and The Swinging Bridge.
We are also near the Superior Hiking Trail Terminus and an echo chamber at a Veterans Memorial.

Five stars all the way

Secured home for girls hiking weekend; visited Jay Cooke State Park and hiked several trails around the home. House had amenities just like a home does, from kleenex to blankets to nice paper towels. Appreciated the seating spaces, smart TV and multiple sleeping spaces.

A Fun Weekend

We had a relaxing weekend at this lovely house on a beautiful hilltop overlooking the St. Louis River. We had everything we needed for cooking meals. The hosts provided all the comforts necessary to make this getaway comfortable.

Wonderful, peaceful stay!

We were celebrating my wife’s birthday with friends. We booked your rental and had a great time. It was just enough out of the way to be nice and quiet and provide us with beautiful scenery, but close enough to Duluth and the North Shore that it was easy to do the things we wanted to do. Thank you!

Thanksgiving family gathering

Second time to stay over Thanksgiving holiday. Great kitchen to cook in, although oven had issues which I’m sure owner has solved. Lighting to knit and quietly read is poor, bringing a reading lamp next time. Other amenities are great. Still wish stool in master bedroom bath was more than a child’s size, hard on an old lady with bad knees. Quiet location and river view is great. Very clean

place was nice a few improvements would make it better we had 6 adults in our party one of the queen mattress need replacing and another couch or chair in the living room would be nice for 6 people to lounge otherwise we had a nice time oh and the info seemed to indicate you could get to the river from the property but you can not

Wonderful cabin, terrible wi-fi

We absolutely loved this cabin! It was spotless, super comfortable and plenty of amenities! We LOVED the location right near Jay Cooke State park and the cabin itself has beautiful views. The major drawback which would prevent us from renting again was the terrible wi-fi and lack of ability to watch Netflix or any other streaming. You have to watch everything through their very very spotty hot-spot. It was incredibly frustrating, especially since it was cold and rainy while we were there so we were hanging around the cabin and staying in on the cold evenings. That would be the only thing we did not like, otherwise we loved the cabin!

Perfect home in a perfect place

Just 30 minutes away from downtown Duluth, this is the perfect home away from home. My family enjoyed this so much. Spectacular view, quiet, nature all around you, plenty of places to visit within a short drive. Honestly, I couldn’t think of something that could’ve made our stay better. Nora and Tom were THE BEST host on the entire VRBO network. They deserve a prize with how great they are. Easy access trails all around, 15 minutes away from Jay Cooke state park and wonderful dining all around. Props to you both for having such a beautiful home in such a nice place. We will be returning for years to come. To everyone wondering if you should book this: DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT TWICE! We have a little one and they had everything ready to use. Even outlet covers! High chair, stroller, toddler cups bowls and even cutlery clean and ready for use. Honestly, this was by far the best experience we’ve ever had.

The place was great and our hosts, Nora and Tom, were so helpful! Communications were always prompt and personable. We were going to arrive in Duluth/Superior earlier than check-in time so we could go to Glensheen in the afternoon, but we didn't want to have all our stuff in the car. Nora let us check in early so we could "drop and go." Easy. There were two other times we needed help (how to work the TV and we needed a blender) and Nora popped over both times to help because they live very close by. For checkout, Nora told us they weren't going to need access to the house until the day after our stay, so they let us leave our stuff there until we were done with our morning excursions and check out whenever we wanted in the afternoon. So accommodating! The house was clean and we had everything we needed to prepare meals and have a comfortable night's sleep. We made good use of the place and felt very safe and secure there. We'll definitely keep it in mind for our next family overnight to the North Shore.

This house was perfect for our family while we were in town for a family wedding over the weekend. The check-in/check-out process was easy to follow and Nora and Tom answered our texts/questions quickly. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook a few meals. Our granddaughters enjoyed the games, books, and craft activities that were available. The property is beautiful...we even saw a bear!

We rented this lovely, secluded property on a visit to our Duluth family. Our relative's home is much too small to accommodate us all, so this beautiful property was perfect. It was extremely clean and was well stocked and had everything we needed. Tom and Nora were wonderful to work with and I would recommend this property as it was a very positive experience.

An amazing property!

We stayed here for my brother’s bachelor party, and the property did not disappoint. This is one of, if not, the best rental we’ve stayed at! It has beautiful views of the river, and is tucked back into the woods so it’s calm and peaceful. The owners are kind and thoughtful. It’s a nice central location for wanting to go to Superior, Duluth, and Jay Cooke and Carlton. Overall, a great property and I would recommend!

Ahhhh relaxation!

Overall this was a great place to stay. We were visiting family and they were about 25-30 minutes away so the construction on 35 was kind of a pain, but that has nothing to do with the property. This place was close enough to see everything we wanted and more. The house was fully stocked with all the kitchen tools you need and has on site laundry which was perfect for us and saved me time trying to go to a laundry mat somewhere. Very quiet place on a hill with a decent view of the water. I wish there was a better trail to the water, but I know that is in progress! I would highly recommend it to anyone with a family. Sooooo much better than a hotel!!

Tom grew up in this area and we always knew we wanted to raise our family here. We purchased this home when it became available but it was not quite big enough for our growing family. We purchased a larger home a few doors down, our hope is that by doing vacation rental we can keep this home for our children. Tom and I are both teachers.
Prior to that, one of Nora's jobs was helping out with a local Bed and Breakfast. I cleaned the rooms and helped serve breakfast. One of Tom's previous roles was being a custodian and maintenance man at two local colleges. We have found these former positions very helpful now with vacation rentals!
We love living on the St. Louis River and hope you'll come check out our little slice of paradise!

Why they chose this property

We love being close enough to Duluth and Superior while having that country feel. We spend our entire summer on the river- fishing, boating, kayaking, and swimming. In the winter, we enjoy the quiet and the wildlife. We have a diverse community of birds, there are also deer, porcupine, turkeys, pine martens, bear, and more!
A favorite family outing is to walk to The Wabegon for Fish Fry Friday or for breakfast.
Our family also appreciates being so close to Mont du Lac for skiing and Jay Cooke and the Superior Hiking Trail for hiking.
