Laurelville is a small town on the western end of the Hocking Hills. It is mostly comprised of nice farmers and kind hearted hill people. The closest larger towns are Logan, Circleville, and Chillicothe.

Ravens Retreat is a 2 mile drive up off Thompson Ridge East from Laurelville. A 25 to 35 min scenic walk on the heavily wooded two lane road, if you feel like you would like to walk to town. Laurelville has several businesses. Those being the Hocking Hills Visitor Center, Laurelville Fruit Company , Salt Creek Valley Bank ( AKA Vinton County Bank), Youngs Family Market, Gas Station, Family Dollar, Whites Hardware Store, A Grain Mill, Car Wash, USPS Post Office, and 6 restaurants. Those 6 restaurants are The Ridge Inn, The Village Café, Old Town Diner, L & J's Ice Cream & Pizza, Mam's Rusted Skillet, and Laurelville Pizza. We are particularly fond of Laurelville Pizza due to the delicious vegan/plant based pizza they make upon request. Doug and Tiffany, the husband and wife combo that run Laurelville Pizza, make delicious food. We order our pizza with, or without, vegan cheese. If you have interest in the vegan cheese, we recommend calling a week ahead to give them a chance to make sure its stocked.

If you are up for checking out some local art while away from Ravens Retreat, check out The Jack Pine Studio located 6 miles/10 min drive from the property. This studio focuses on glass work and is well known for intricate glasswork and live demos.

If for some reason you are meeting a group of people in the Hocking Hills, Laurelville has a nice playground and shelter house near the family Dollar.

Guests have access to hiking all of our 58 acres, and all the land around The Pollinator site.

Friendly reminder, we do not allow fishing, swimming, or hunting on the property.

While you are here, we want you to feel completely welcomed and free to explore around the property while doing your best to leave the smallest footprint possible. The Whippoorwill birds here lay eggs on the ground without a nest so please watch your steps on the ground. We would like for you to stick to traveling on trails when at all possible.

Splendid Sanctuary of Stillness
Raven's Retreat encapsulated all that my partner and I were hoping to experience in our getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city streets. We felt safe and secluded in our beautiful cabin and enjoyed the variety of amenities the grounds had to offer. We hope to be back sooner than later!

We are Raven and Dustin. We met at Buckeye MMA, which was a combat sports gym in Columbus Ohio, back in 2008. We were married in 2013. Both of us were training, fulltime, in various martial arts for competitions. It was our lifestyle for many years. We now work as two artists and incorporate many of those Functional Movements into our everyday lives. Dustin is an Eastern Michigan University Sculpture graduate that started a sculpture business, entitled Sculptdecor, in 2014. He leads all of our projects with his 20 plus years of experience. Dustin's Sculptdecor shop is located here on the property. He is always fabricating. His projects range from custom wood/ice/pumpkin carvings, metal sculptures, fiberglass works, and other mixed media. Dustin is also a special effects artist that has been involved with the creation of over 60 haunted houses worldwide, and the building/design of over 100 animatronics.
I, Raven, assist Dustin with projects and have a history of working in the medical field. I also have experience working as a Vet Tech/Veterinary Nurse in animal agriculture and animal research. I currently work as a Dental Hygienist, EFDA, and Sleep Coordinator in Dentistry.
Prior to college at OSU, I had a scholarship to art school for my portrait work. I declined due to learning many artists work in restaurants, rather than creating art to make a living.
These days we enjoy connecting with other life forms, from humans to insects, on a journey to make this world a better place through compassion, self realization, functional fitness, and eating more Vegan/PLANT derived foods. We often forage for wild edible plants here at Raven's Retreat.
We meditate often, and encourage others to practice as well. We study daily upon ways to improve the world around us by use of small manageable steps we make in our own lifestyle. Having been lifestyle coaches for years, we have learned that adaptation and an open mind is often one key factor to human health.

Why they chose this property

This is a secluded and protected property we treasure for it's serenity. We are working with environmental specialists to improve this 58 acres, here in the Hocking Hills of Ohio, by creating more biodiversity, protecting our water quality, protecting our wetlands, and prepping the soil for more pollinator friendly areas. Raven's Retreat is made up of art inspired dwellings and a primitive campsite. There are wildlife viewing stations on the property where guests can appreciate critters from a distance. We strive to make our spaces peaceful by use of natural materials, custom art, and our practices such as low light pollution, and avoidance of an overstimulated human mind. When you are here, on the high point of the property known as the ridge or deep in the valley, there is a strong sense of tranquility. Many people say when they are here, they feel like they are in Tennessee or West Virginia. Over time, we are installing functional fitness stations, meditation stations, pollinator sites within the forest, and wild edible food education stations to help people educate themselves on the importance of maintaining biodiversity. It is so important to us that we help others connect with nature so they may discover their true purpose, health, and decompress without being overstimulated. Happiness is a state of mind that can often be found with a change in perception, under the right conditions, that were strive to create here at Raven's Retreat. As health coaches we feel so lucky to be able to help create this experience for guests!
