About this property
Beautiful Secluded Maple Corner Cottage Near Curtis Pond! Ski, Swim, Hike, Bike!
Calais Cottage is nestled in the woods off a quiet road in historic Maple Corner of Calais, Vermont. This is our family's little slice of heaven and after years of traveling around vermont, what we find as the most absolutely magical location. Calais Cottage, an 1850s farmhouse with old-world, New England charm with modern conveniences. A recently updated kitchen and bathroom, with large 2nd floor bedrooms, offers ample gathering space for family and friends. A screened in back porch and outdoor patio to gaze at the woods, with winter views of Curtis Pond; a large backyard with areas to play, BBQ or just sit and listen to the quiet world around. A few minute walk down the path behind the house to Curtis Pond for summer swimming, kayaking, and stand up paddleboarding (please inquire about renting) or heads to the public dock in maple corner for more swimming, boat launch, kayaking and SUPing. In the winter take part in a bit of Maple Corner history with public Ice Skating and Hockey in the winter. Take a morning one mile walk or bike ride to the Maple Corner General Store for groceries or a bite to eat, or an evening stroll to the Whammy Bar for live music, dinner, and drinks. Walk or bike the area through endless trails, or take 3 mile loop walk and visit the old saw mill and historic kents corners church. Our location is within driving distance of everything you can imagine. Take a short 15 minute drive to explore the beautiful city of Montpelier for shopping, dining out, and exploring. A quick drive to cabot for sightseeing, apple picking (and live irish music at The Den on sundays!) Shoot over to Waterbury in 20-25 minutes for dining at some of vermonts best restaurants and pubs, craft breweries and amazing mountain bike trails or continue another 15 minutes up to Stowe Village . A Scenic 40 minute drive either through Waterbury or through Lake Elmore (a beautiful scenic route!) to Stowe for shopping, dining, Vermont's most famous breweries, and absolutely amazing hikes all along the stunning Smuggler's Notch area. 40 Minutes to Warren and the Mad River area for more dining, brews, shopping, and covered bridges.. An easy drive to ski Sugarbush, Bolton Valley, Stowe and more. 50 minutes to Burlington to take in lake champlain, the famous church street shopping, Winooski village, and great dining and breweries! We are also right on the border of the famous Northeast Kingdom, where hiking and nature abound, along with the world famous Hill Farmstead brewery an easy 30 minutes away. A 15-20 minute drive to hardwick for shops and eats, or see the 50 miles views from the amazing Nichol's Ledge. Get to Jay Peak ski area and the Canadian border in under 1.5 hours.
Calais Cottage is a place for wanderers and artists, outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers, skiers and leaf-peepers and months of endless year round fun, or just a quiet place to relax. The opportunities for exploring are limitless here. Come meet this magical place and learn why we fell in love with it!

We're a family of 5 that has been coming to VT for many years for skiing, hiking, relaxing, and sightseeing.
Why they chose this property
After years of exploring Vermont, we found our secret slice of heaven here in Maple Corner. Located close to everything but secluded--montpelier, skiing, hiking, breweries, shopping, northeast kingdom and the great outdoors.
What makes this property unique
Secluded, nature, community, and the feeling of being a part of historic vermont. Close enough to all that vermont has to offer.
