Always Hart Lake – Hidden Waterfront Retreat on Hart Lake
Tucked deep in the woods near Twin Lake, Always Hart Lake carries a story that’s been passed down for generations.
In the early 1900s, when only a few homes lined this quiet stretch of lake, it’s said that well-dressed visitors from Chicago would travel north to this very area—drawn by the clean water, dense woods, and the kind of privacy you couldn’t find back in the city.
Some believe this home may have been one of their quiet hideaways… a place to relax, regroup, and enjoy time where no one asked too many questions.
Today, it’s your turn to escape.

We had a wonderful time. Our stay was very relaxing. We enjoyed the sandy beachfront access, the ample patio space, and fenced yard for our grandson and grand-pup. The firework show was spectacular too. The place was very clean and well equipped for guests of all ages. It's in a very quiet neighborhood as well. If we plan to revisit the area this is where we will stay again.
We had a wonderful time at this Lake House. Absolutely beautiful, very clean and amazing views. I would highly recommend this location for a nice weekend getaway.
We loved this cottage, it was incredibly clean, well maintained and had everything we needed incase we forgot. My daughter really loved the skin care pads in the bathroom. My son loved everything about the water, from 8am-10pm he'd be out there fishing or swimming. I really loved that it was pet friendly where our dog could vacation too!
Overall we were very pleased with our stay. Lake was fairly quiet with a tranquil surrounding shore line. Perfect set up for a dog with the fenced in yard. The kitchen and bathroom/laundry room were well stocked with many thoughtful touches.
Guys had great time for a Fall Trip with kids and dog to see nature. Beautiful and clean home. No issues. Super easy. Nice backyard with fence for or dog.
We had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful vacation home. Everything was exactly the same as the pictures. The property was so beautiful and peaceful we spent our whole trip hanging out on the patio or down on the private beach. Our dogs also had a the best time there were even blankets and bowls just for them. The fenced in yard was secure enough for even a tiny poodle mix. The house was well stocked with anything you may have forgotten and the beds were super comfortable.
We very much enjoyed our stay! We spent most of our time outside. All photos are clear depictions of what you are getting. We enjoyed the outdoor shower very much, the beach and clearish water was fabulous (very quiet lake). The spiral stairs are a challenge with a dog and baby. Do bring a solid house shoe to walk down them as they are grated.
Overall, a lovely stay and easy communication with Brenda. Thank you!
Very cute property right on the lake. Everything was great. Kayaks available. Water was clear. Fishing was fun!
The listing shows 2 bathrooms, which was a little misconceiving. There is one bathroom plus an outside shower. I may have simply misread the listing, but want others to be aware.
When we arrived we were so excited to spend the weekend in the cabin. The outdoor patio provides stunning views of the lake and every small detail is thought of, from cushions to moon rocks, to firewood, the host knocked it out of the park. In addition, everything inside was thought of for our pet, our children, and even toiletries. We loved the am wake ups to the glassy lake and we decided to do nothing because the house was so cozy and accommodating. Lastly, the fence for the dog to run freely was a big win for this anxious mom. Exactly what the doctor ordered and I would go back again!

I am so glad you were able to relax and enjoy our home. Come back again the lake will alway shine for you Brenda
It has been YEARS since I’ve taken a proper vacation. Thank God I booked with Brenda. She thinks of everything when she stocks her houses - and this one was gorgeous! A well stocked kitchen (including snacks!) and bathroom. Comfy beds and furniture. Fluffy blankets to snuggle under. Fire starters for the fire pit! The house was the perfect size for the three of us (doggo included). And the dog LOVED the property! Fun fenced yard, easy access Sandy beach. She had endless hours of snooping fun. While in the end I wasn’t a huge fan of the spiral stairs (especially at night for bathroom runs lol) I would definitely vacation here again. And hopefully it will be in the near future.

thank you for staying with us. I know the spiral stairs are not my favorite but they are the most sturdy ones i have ever been on. I am glad your fur baby had a great time.. she was such a pretty dog too. Come again.. I think she loved the walks around the lake the most right?
While there are the number of beds as stated, the third "bedroom" is completely open to the rest of the house, making it very difficult when a larger group is there due to the noise that carries from the basement/kitchen area. Technically the property sleeps 8, but that would be very very tight, especially with only one bathroom. There is no dishwasher, and the instructions for checkout state that dishes are to be loaded into the dishwasher. The sliding screen door is difficult to open and the fire alarm goes off when there is no smoke in the kitchen. There is no ice maker, so bring your own!
The property layout is absolutely perfect! Beautiful lake views, house is new and clean & the amenities are perfect! Our German Shepherd LOVED the fenced yard and playing on her private beach. Kayaks, fire pit, outdoor shower, outdoor cooking area and TONS of seating. Highly recommend this rental!
What a beautiful cabin! Spent the week fishing, kayaking, swimming, and laughing with our family and pups. Anything you needed, the cabin had it. Thank you!
We had a great long weekend - perfect for the two of us and two dogs. The house had everything we would need and then some. We felt more like guests than renters, and this was a very dog-friendly property. The setting was beautiful and having access to the kayaks was very nice. The lake bottom directly in front of the house was very weedy, I wouldn't have wanted to swim, but there was a rake, so we were able to clear an area out to sit chairs in. I didn't quite understand the layout of the house or I might not have booked it as the spiral staircase would have been difficult for the dogs, but they only needed to change levels when we woke up and went to bed, so we just did that through the exterior doors and it was a non-issue. The fenced in yard was a huge bonus. We will definitely be back!
This property is truly accurate to the listing description. We were very pleased with how modern the rental was. The owners were very friendly and responsive. The property was very clean and I would rent here again.
Great vacation for my family with wife and two kids 2yr old and 5yr old. The outside shower was great to clean the kids off, the please was like newly remodeled, great place for grilling cooked about all meals outside. They only thing that gave us trouble was the metal spiral staircase with young once always wanted to climb up and down one little slip could be bad. But everything else was great! Will be back!

About the host
Hosted by Brenda Harris
I love being a host because it allows me to bring each home to life and share the character of the community I live in. Being local, I have a deep connection to these homes and the Muskegon area. My goal is to create spaces where guests can truly relax and feel at home, whether they’re visiting for adventure, rest, or time together. Every home is designed with comfort, warmth, and a sense of belonging in mind.
Why they chose this property
I chose this place for its peaceful, natural setting. Sitting by the lake and watching the sunlight move across the water is incredibly calming, especially on quiet mornings and evenings. In the fall and spring, the crisp air and changing light make it even more special.
Surrounded by National Forest land, this home offers more than just lake views. Nearby trails invite exploration, and the sense of being immersed in nature is something I truly love. The water, the light, and the quiet create a space that encourages you to slow down, relax, and simply enjoy where you are.
I hope you’ll find it as peaceful and memorable as I do.
What makes this property unique
This home is truly a labor of love. When we first found it, it was a small, overlooked space—but we saw something special and brought it back to life with thoughtful updates while preserving its character.
Though the home is cozy in size, it’s designed to make every inch count. Inside, guests can comfortably gather, but the real magic happens outdoors—by the lake, on the patio, and in the fresh air. An outdoor shower makes lake days easy, and the upper level offers three inviting sleeping spaces, with additional space below for relaxing.
This is a place that surprises people in the best way. It’s not about square footage—it’s about the experience of being on the water, slowing down, and enjoying nature. We loved creating this home, and we hope you love staying here just as much.
