*NOTE: Pets are permitted in or around the property with a fee (determined by length of stay) and pre-approval. *Other things to note: -This Cabin is on top of a mountain and surrounded by a variety of wildlife as it is very close to Shenandoah National Park. During certain times of the year, the area will have lady bugs and stink bugs. -We like guests to know that the drive ends with a 3 mile ascent up a gravel road. While it is a well maintained road, it is fine for 2-wheel drive as long as the vehicle has a reasonable road clearance. The road is windy and steep in certain areas. In the winter months, because the weather on the mountain can be unpredictable, we strong recommend 4-wheel drive.

Super lovely and tranquil mountain getaway. Super quiet, stunning views, lovely and well equipped house, with a super nice morning coffee bar. Wildlife all around and in abundance. Saw up close every day, when driving up/down the mountain, deer, rabbits, foxes, chip monks, numerous species of birds and even caught a glimpse of a black bear. Highly recommend this mountain retreat.
Spent 3 lovely nights on Flatop Mountain with magnificent views! Appreciated the fully equipped kitchen and overall cleanliness of the place. Definitely plan to return.
The cabin in the sky was such a wonderful stay! From the gorgeous views to the beautiful, cozy, and fun cabin, we loved it all! We had a lots of fun with the shuffleboard table and retro records on the record player. The fire pit is great! Such a nice refreshing getaway with views and stargazing that you just don't get anywhere near a city! Can't wait to book another stay here!
My husband and I, along with our son, his wife, and their two kids stayed here for 5 days. Property has absolutely beautiful views of Virginia from atop Flattop Mountain. The yard was exceptionally large allowing our 3 and 5 year old grandchildren lots of area to run outside. Inside the home you still have beautiful views of the valley below and mountains in the distance. We would love to come back again.
Views are amazing! Property was clean and well appointed. Check-in process was seamless. Would advise others (renting during winter months) to arrive with dinner in hand upon arrival, as check in is 4:00 PM. It is at least a 40 minute drive down the mountain and it is quite a steep drive to be taking after dark on your first night!
Arrived in the area early and I contacted the host from Maybelle's market which is about 8 miles from the cabin.
The market makes good sandwiches and has free Wi-Fi so I could contact the host.
He allowed me to check in early as his cleaning ladies were just about finished.
Fantastic views. Great place to stay.
Be sure and allow extra time for traveling up and down the mountain.
Great communication with the Host.
We wanted to get away from everything and stay in a beautiful mountain home where there was no traffic sounds and beautiful sights… this house provided. I will admit- we drove up the mountain to check in late at night and it is about.a 30 minute drive on unpaved roads up the side of a mountain so that was a bit jarring. But- waking up in the morning to the clouds engulfing us because we were on the top of the mountain was amazing and the views were worth it! Once we drove up and down the mountain a couple of times, we adjusted to the pitch of the drive and took on that drive with no problem. The house was super cute and clean. We had 3 adults and 3 kids (7yrs -9yrs). There is yard for the kids to play outside, a fire pit to relax at night around, and a fully stocked kitchen to cook all of our meals. The host was very good about communication and very generous with his home. He had records to listen to and a working record player, a shuffle board table that the kids played on every day, and the beds were all very comfortable! We loved the location of this house and once you got down from the top- it was only about 30 min away from major hikes, access to skyline drive, and Montecello! I would recommend this house to anyone looking to stay near the Shenandoah National Park. A true gem and loved our time! Thank you Andrew!!! We will be back!
We stayed for a week. Had an absolutely amazing time. The house is awesome. The views are incredible. Everything we needed was provided which is really nice. There are nice dishes and even lunch (plastic) dishes. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything we only had to buy our groceries. The host was very responsive with any questions. There are a few ways up the mountain as mentioned we enjoyed them all. We have a Audi Q5 all wheel drive did fine. My son came up in his car and took the easier route and was fine. We loved everything about this stay and house. Internet is STRONG as well which my husband loved as he did have to work a day or two and had no issues.
Overall the house is exactly as pictured and was perfect for our stay. Waking up in the mornings, seeing the fog roll through the mountains and having coffee on the deck with the morning dew around was a perfect start to every day. Very peaceful and quite neighborhood made it feel like we were completely secluded. Bed was comfortable, shuffleboard table was so fun, and wifi was excellent considering you're on a mountain. The road up has some steep, sharp turns with fall offs on the side. You have to take it slow and the road on the mountain adds about 20-30 mins to every trip. If you intend to use the bbq grill you need to bring your own charcoal and if you want to use the fire pit you need to bring your own wood. Not a problem but would have preferred knowing that before travel day. Andrew was very easy to communicate with, responded quickly and reached out to make sure we had everything we needed which was appreciated. Overall would stay here again.
A wonderful stay, especially impressed with communication from the host. Highly recommend, the views are breathtaking on clear days! So peaceful and quiet, and neighbors are very friendly.
This is a great place way up at the top of the mountain with a fantastic view. Extremely clean and very cute. Modern decor, simple cabin plenty of space, nice little fireplace, extra books and magazines to read. Everything worked perfectly in the kitchen. We had a lovely time. You really should not take a sedan up there. It really needs to be an SUV, we did not have four-wheel-drive and we were fine but if it snows or there is ice you must have four-wheel-drive or you will not make it up there .
We were looking for a quiet place in the mountains where we could relax and enjoy what remained of the autumn foliage - this place hit the mark. The view was fantastic, the cabin was well furnished, in good condition, well supplied, and very comfortable with more than enough space for four adults. We enjoyed grilling on the deck, good conversation around the fire pit at night and had a lot of laughs playing a supplied card game and shuffleboard. The Elkton entrance to the Shenandoah National Park is about 45 minutes away and we enjoyed a scenic hike to the South River Falls. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals and had all new pots, pans, utensils and even some seasonings. A classy touch for us caffeine lovers was the well-stocked, diverse coffee bar. The white noise generators in each bedroom were a nice touch in addition to the soap, shampoo, and conditioner dispensers provided in the bathrooms. We also liked how responsive Andrew, our host, was to all our questions. We would definitely visit this cabin again and recommend it to our friends.
The note in the listing about the road conditions for the last several miles of the trip to the cabin are spot on. You do not want to chance making this trip in a vehicle with low clear. Also suggest bringing everything you need regarding food and drink since the closest market is about 25 – 30 minutes away.
We wanted to get away for the weekend and enjoy some beautiful views and fall foliage and the mountain house did not disappoint. Breathtaking views. Beautiful little cabin that is both quaint and updated. Wi-Fi is ok - good enough for a weekend but a little spotty if you plan to do any zoom calls. It’s about 20-30 min from the nearest grocery store so make sure to bring supplies. Overall, a gorgeous rental and very friendly/attentive owner.
This was a wonderful location to get away from it all! Pre plan for the trip down the mountain but everything was perfect and well maintained.
