We really enjoyed our short stay in this property in Castroville. House was clean & comfortable and had sufficient space for our family. Host was quick to respond to any questions. Location was good for travelling to Monterey / Carmel.

It's a cute little place easily drivable into Monterey.
My family and I had a great stay in Castroville over the holiday weekend. Castroville ended up being a good choice for us because we were able to get to Monterey easily, enjoy the activities around Moss Landing, and go fruit picking up in Watsonville. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a location that gives you access to a large part of the bay.
Caleb was a great host, texting us recommendations throughout the weekend and checking in to see if we needed anything. Place was very clean and was great to have access to the backyard to enjoy the weather. Would definitely stay here again if we're in the area.
Nice quite neighborhood, very comfortable beds. The host was a good communicator and was helpful with restaurant suggestions. We had dogs with us and they had fun the fenced in backyard. We enjoyed our stay and hope to return next year.
We came to the area for a Monterey family getaway. This was such a great location and affordable. Only 20 minutes to the aquarium and less then 10 to whale watching. Caleb was a fantastic host!! I highly recommend this property!
Great house in Castroville, close to restaurants and shops. Very clean and comfortable. Host was great and communicated well. Would definitely recommend this house for a vacation stay.
The property is super convenient for activities around Monterey Bay, easy to get into Monterey and up to Santa Cruz. Lots of groceries and fresh vegetable stands really close by. Caleb was very communicative and responsive.
We had a very nice stay. Property was clean and quiet and exactly what we needed. An easy drive to both Santa Cruz and Monterey and an easy way to enjoy the whole area.
Host was very communicative and easy to work with. Check in and check out were very easy. Happy with the whole experience.
We wanted a nice spot between Santa Cruz and Monterrey and this worked perfectly. Small little town but if you like artichokes you are in for a treat. House was perfect for the small family. Thanks!
We enjoyed our recent stay at this property which was very cute and cozy with comfortable bedding. The kitchen, dining and living room were open with a beautiful wood bar with extra seating on both sides. Loved the whale and sea gull that were painted on the rocks in the front yard which was a nice touch. The property manager, Caleb was very accommodating and responded quickly to our questions.
The house was perfect for our needs. Clean and the neighborhood has quiet. Close to Moss Landing for dinner and within 30 minutes of Laguna Seca. The host was very attentive to any questions we had and checked on us to make sure that we had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. He even gave great suggestions of local places to eat and times to travel to avoid traffic. We would definitely here again if traveling to the area.
Caleb’s house is a gem, it’s super clean, tidy and comfortable for us. The location is great and the neighborhood is very quiet and clean. Caleb is very responsive and caring for us. He provided us a great opportunity to have an ocean view dinner at a beach restaurant. We watched the beautiful sunset while having dinner, it’s an amazing experience we’ll never forget. I definitely recommend Caleb’s place to everyone and will come back again for vacation.
For anyone wanting to explore the Monterey Peninsula, this home is a great place to set up your base camp. It's a very easy location to branch out from in any direction. It's a warm, cozy house with a nice kitchen for those wanting to explore their inner chef. The beds are comfortable and the shower is great!
Most of all, the host Caleb is very attentive to the details in his texts and calls. He made the check in and out as easy as it could possibly be.
My wife and I will definitely be returning!

Room for improvement
Caleb very nice. Beds great, couch terribly uncomfortable, told not to use backyard, coffee maker problematic. Took lid off kitchen trash can because it was too hard to open
Do NOT stay here. The pictures online is not reality. The soap the maids use to wash the sheets and towels is not soap, it is conditioning beads so the sheets had hair all over them. There was old food in the fridge and an open electrical box near a water source which is a fire hazard. The list goes on and on. The host was a great communicator at first, he even told me what time traffic was going to be bad and the check in process was simple. After our horrible experience we ended up notifying the host and leaving the property and then to top it all off the host straight up lied to VRBO and said I had no communication with him. Stay away from this house and this host.

Why they chose this property
"This relaxing home in Castroville was perfect for our family of four. We felt instantly at home. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. The washer and dryer were clean and in good working order. We appreciated the bathroom having two cabinets for toiletries and the great water pressure in the shower. The town of Castroville is perfectly located to take advantage of the Big Sur area. We were less than 20 minutes from the city of Monterey which offered extensive dining options. We were only 5 minutes from the beach.
Our family loved Moss Landing which was only a 5 minute drive. There was an adorable restaurant, the Power Plant that served delicious coffees and drinks as well as a full menu all day. You were surrounded by plants in a cute and unique environment. We ate at Phil’s Market. It was a simple sandwich shop that provided a lot of options and surprisingly delicious flavors. The beach at Moss Landing was a perfect place to spend time with the family on the Pacific. This is also where whale watching, eco, and fishing tours are located. We went on the eco tour and saw sea lions, harbor seals, and sea otters. This is a great place to watch sea lions, they gather on the docks around Moss Landing. From this house you’re also near many vineyards. The 101 offers 200 vineyards and historic Spanish Missions. Extremely Fresh produce is sold throughout the region as it’s produced there. We loved it so much we didn’t want to leave." - Heidi Clements June, 2023
My property is a newly remodeled 2 bed 1 bath house situated in a very quiet neighborhood. It is super convenient to get on and off highway #1, 156, 101. It is only 5 min to the state beaches and Moss Landing, Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve which is the second-largest remaining salt marsh in California. Monterey Bay Aquarium, 17 mile scenic view drive, and Carmel-by-the-Sea are all within this area.
Baby crib and high chair are available upon request.
What makes this property unique
Farmer's market near by with local fresh produce. The beautiful Elkhorn Slough National Estuary Research Reserve is 10 minutes away from my house. People can hike and watch wildlife and birds.
Castroville is known as Artichoke Capital of the world, artichoke ice cream with lemon has a very pleasant taste. Artichoke pizza is also famous to tourists.
Elkhorn Slough Estuaries: a nursery ground, a resting place, a smorgasbord; where rivers meet the sea. If you're a nature enthusiast you've probably heard this description before. But what exactly does it mean? And what in the world is a slough anyway? A visit to the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve is a great way to find all this out, and much more.
The approximately 1,700 acres that comprise the reserve include salt marsh, mud flat, freshwater pond, oak woodland, and grassland habitats. A stroll on any one of the three loop trails reveals a variety of both wetland and upland wildlife. It is not uncommon for a black-tailed deer to be foraging in the oaks while a grey smoothhound shark is gliding through the backwater shallows just below in search of a meal of mud crabs.
For more information, visit link opens in new window ElkhornSlough.org or call the reserve at (831) 728-2822 or the Central Region Fresno office at (559) 243-4005 x151.
