About this property

WILD HORSE ISLAND!

Break Free. Peel back the layers of sacred beauty and bountiful wildlife that are the hallmarks of western Montana. In the heart of it all is Wild Horse Island, a 2,200-acre sanctuary in the middle of Glacial Flathead Lake. Gently sloping ridges robed in native grasses, wildflowers, and Ponderosa pines rise 900ft from the island's enchanted shores.

A small group of wild horses descended from indigenous Salish and Kootenai herds roam the island alongside a robust flock of 200 bighorn sheep, mule deer, and coyotes. These keystone species thrive on Wild Horse Island state park, a marvelously preserved primitive wilderness.

Hand Built with native logs on one of only a handful of private lots on the island, the secluded cabin offers an unparalleled getaway experience. For those wild at heart who appreciates off-the-grid tranquility coupled with a generous suite of amenities, this adventure is for you. Indoor features include a well-equipped kitchen with a propane refrigerator and range oven, a full bathroom with showers and tub, a spacious loft with queen and twin beds, a master bedroom with a queen-size bed, and a queen fold-out couch in the living room. Electric lights and appliances are powered by solar energy backed by a quiet gas-powered generator.

Cellular Reception is excellent at the cabin, but for complete off-grid serenity, turn everything off and enjoy a good read from the cabins small library. Though open fires are absolutely not permitted on the property or in the state park, the cabin is equipped with a wood stove and BBQ.

The boat dock and wrap-around deck offer a calm, tranquil outdoor relaxation experience. Enjoy fresh breezes while the sounds of waves splash against pebble beaches.

The cabin serves as your base camp for a multitude of adventures. Climb to the highest peak and bask in the vastness of the Mission and Swan mountains to the east, the Salish mountains to the west, and on a clear day, the peaks of Glacier Park 60 miles north. Circumnavigate the island by motor boat, canoe, or kayak, or take a self-guided tour of the cabins and mansions on the mainland. Fishing is a favorite pastime in Big Arm bay, so be sure to get permits from the tribe before your vacation.

Bring your own boat or rent one from a local business. Water taxi services are also available in the area. Dogs are welcome on the property and in the cabin but are not allowed outside the one-acre cabin lot into the stake park.

Wild Horse Island
We’ve stayed many places around Flathead Lake, but had never made it to Wild Horse Island. When I saw Jordan’s property, I was super excited. It is an awesome opportunity to experience a quieter version of Flathead. We plan to return!

The most peaceful place.
From the moment we walked into the cabin, we knew this would be a special experience. We saw sheep, horses, deer... fished, ate what we caught. Wat hed a storm roll in one day as well as had several days of calm water. The wildfires and low water levels did not diminish our stay one bit. So when jordan says its all good at the island... it is. He was a wonderful host!

Perfect retreat
This little cabin has it all for a great family retreat. The kitchen has all you need to make anything you'd like, though we mostly stuck to the grill on the deck so as to not heat up the house. The beds are very comfortable and we opened the windows at night to enjoy the cool, quietness of the lake. There are horse shoe pits out front which were great in the evenings. The view from the beach/dock faces Melita and Big Arm and the sunsets were beautiful. The best thing overall was our host Jordan. He couldn't have been more accommodating to us and we are very thankful for and grateful to him. A couple tips for this year: 1) The lake is VERY LOW. This complicates the availability of using a rental boat over the weekend and the water taxi out of Big Arm. If you don't own a boat I suggest looking into all the options available and be prepared in the event you'll be staying without one. We were fine without, but some people need that accessibility to be comfortable. 2) There is no wifi. ENJOY IT. The cell service is good and the internet works through 4G/5G just fine, but put the phone (except to snap pics)/laptop down and chill. The day will dissolve in the blink of an eye.

Ansolutely Wonderful!
Beautiful cabin in a gorgeous setting! Our week's stay for family was so nice and relaxing and it was in a great location. Jordan was marvelous to work with and very accommodating and addressed all my questions. We loved the beach and saw animals everyday. Even the horses came to see us every day! I would highly recommend this place for sure!

Incredible experience
I was not going to leave a review because VRBO is the worst company I’ve ever dealt with BUT, this place is so incredible and Jordon was a great host so I felt compelled to share. My family and I spent the week unplugged in this beautiful rustic cabin, we woke most mornings with deer in the yard, watching birds of prey hunt while having coffee on the dock. Jordon took the time to ensure we were comfortable with the cabin and checked in during our stay eliminating any uncertainty. After hiking the island and enjoying the lake we left this peaceful retreat rejuvenate.
