Hudson Valley Apartment in a Historic Farmhouse w/ Sauna Near Stone Ridge Hamlet
Set on the first floor of a historic 1920 farmhouse at the crossroads of Stone Ridge, this Hudson Valley retreat blends classic farmhouse character with a private wood-fired outdoor sauna just steps from the backyard stone patio. The space is designed for guests who want a slower rhythm of travel — quiet mornings, long hikes in the nearby mountains, and evenings warming up in the sauna under the trees.
Stone Ridge is one of the historic hamlets of the Rondout Valley, surrounded by farmland, forest, and some of the most beautiful landscapes in the Hudson Valley. From here you can easily reach the Shawangunk Mountains, Minnewaska State Park, Mohonk Preserve, and the small towns that make this area special.

The home was clean and comfortable for our stay. We spent a lot of time exploring the region, so we didn't spend much time in the home. However, there were just a few items that we would suggest for safety reasons: a safety bar in the bathtub and a non-slip mat or something similar at the bottom of the tub. Some of the stones on the front path from the drive are loose. The people who were in the upstairs apartment had a dog which we saw with them on the patio and also heard bark one night that we all were there.

Cozy, clean, and extremely accommodating. Everything was planned out well and the sauna was lovely in such cold weather! Would highly recommend for anyone considering travel to this beautiful region of New York!
Perfect location for visiting Hudson Valley family. We grew up rurally and appreciate the nice rural quiet stay. Clean and neat. Liked the old house.

The hose is really cute and decorated well, however we were put off by the smell of the water. My family refused to even wash with it. We had to go to the store for bottled water and shower at a friend's house. Also the bedding needed to be laundered. I emailed the owner about these problems and did not hear back.
There was a bit of confusion over booking an extra night but I honestly do feel as though that was a miscommunication.
Unfortunately, the ad stated it was wheelchair accessible which it is not. I have mobility issues and this is not the place for that. Steep driveway, stones loose walking to the front door, and steep stairs outside.
The house was advertised as having a washing machine which it did not have. I have a toddler and it made the trip so intensely stressful. We had to rent a car - something we weren’t going to do since we were in walking distance of restaurants, a library, and a cafe.
Lastly, it was advertised as having a fenced yard. This also was not the case and the front yard is on an extremely busy road. This again, was difficult with a toddler.
We had to end our trip early to find a place with these ammenities. It made everything more stressful and expensive- two things you don’t want a getaway to result in.

If you’re planning to stay here, there are two important things to know BEFORE you get there. Firstly, there is a good chance you won’t get reception anywhere near this town. Get your check in instructions with the WiFi info and door code before you drive into town. Secondly, the water here smells rotten eggs. This is true for the sinks and the shower. You don’t feel clean after showering or washing r your hands after using the bathroom. We brought in our own 2 gallon tanks of water from the grocery store. We also noticed that there’s a sink faucet with what we believe was filtered water in the kitchen, but we didn’t see this mentioned anywhere. The unit also has only shear curtains in most of the rooms. This means that at night, there’s no privacy besides the town’s small population because you can see through the whole unit from the outside. Lastly, the bed was sagging for the first two nights we stayed there before I checked and saw the bed was not fully assembled. I managed to find a second bolt to hand tighten the middle support into place so the bed would not sag. It didn’t cause us too much issue, but there is a neighborhood rooster who seems to scream at all hours of the night, even when we left for our flight at 3am.
We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay in this comfortable, relaxing space. I wish we were there for more than one night. The instructions for the fireplace are actually on a metal plate under the unit and is not controlled by the thermostat as mentioned in the welcome message. The heater in the living area was a little loud.
I’m Serg, the host behind these homes. I’ve been welcoming guests to the Hudson Valley and the Shawangunk region for many years, and hospitality has become a big part of my life. Over time I’ve learned that what people really appreciate when they travel is not something fancy — it’s a place that feels thoughtful, calm, clean, and genuinely cared for.
While I’m personally involved in preparing and improving the homes, I’m not doing it alone. We have a small local team that helps take care of the properties and support guests during their stay. Many members of the team have been working with us for years and take pride in making sure everything runs smoothly.
Our goal is simple: create places where people can relax, explore the mountains and countryside around the Gunks, and enjoy their time in the Hudson Valley.
Why they chose this property
A lot of small details were thought out for the guests to be comfortable, to cook meals, enjoy fresh high quality morning coffee and enjoy the place. The place is a beautiful historical house in Stone Ridge and near tourists attractions, restaurants, and hikes. House is a part of historical heritage of Stone Ridge and used to belong to a local blacksmith and possibly Mr Cooper himself who had his shop set up on the first floor. We are serious about the cleanliness and service, ready to go the extra step to make sure that guests enjoy their stay. We also keep improving and updating the place all the time.
