Incredible stay at the lake

The location of this place is amazing. You have your own private paradise on Foys Lake and we enjoyed the lake every day we were there. The house was as described and perfect for our large family. The air conditioners cooled the place beautifully even on the hottest days. You are an easy drive to Kalispell for any grocery or other needs. We saw lots of wild life in and around the lake and we loved the fire pit! All in all a wonderful stay. Thank you for hosting us.

Not what we expected

While the view of the lake was beautiful, the house left much to be desired. We ran into several problems right off the bat including a bedroom with no active heat vents just a vent in the door to let heat in from the main living area, the same bedroom door would not shut, microwave repeatedly tripped the breaker (owner knew about this and told us the day we arrived), unsafe wiring around hot water heater that was not up to code, rotten step going down to the lake, and moldy/old caulk around showers. We were willing to deal with these issues as we could work around them and they wouldn't be easy fixes. The water pressure was also poor and almost completely went out halfway through our stay to the point we could barely wet our toothbrushes. We let the owner know and he had us run around in the dark trying to find the problem. By the next morning we still hadn't been informed that a plumber had been called so we decided to find a hotel. The owner agreed to a full refund due to the inconvenience and we had to spend a large chunk of change for two hotel rooms for the rest of our stay. The owner has since said that he will only pay for our hotel to now saying he is only refunding us for the two nights we did not stay there. Renters beware. Would not stay here again for free.

We believe we offer a great location at a fair price. The home is simple, but the area and the views are amazing. We realize that our vacation home is not for everyone. We do not try to deceive anyone in our rental description, and we for sure do not deceive anyone with the price for which we rent our vacation home. In fact, I have in the description 'You'll consider this family vacation home a great value'. Not, 'You are renting a luxury unit'. The home has three bedrooms and is very simple. However, the deck is over 1,000 square feet. In addition, it offers over 100 feet of waterfront with a dock. 95% of our guest's awake time is spent outdoors. We rent it for less than $600 per night in the high summer season, and less than $200 per night in the lower season. Check hotels in the area, you can rarely find a good one for less than we rent this home for per night. You might get a view of the mountains or you might get a view of a parking lot. It won't be on a lake for the same price. Plus this home sleeps up to nine, a hotel room is tight with four. The home next to ours often rents for nearly $1,450/night ($10,000 per week). That is not a typo, $10K per week - granted it is much larger and nicer than our home, but they are on the same lakefront, with the same views and the same proximity to all western Montana has to offer. Please read our other reviews on this and other platforms. We have many five star reviews. Other guests have been grateful in their feedback to us for offering an economic rental that is within their vacation budget. We strive to offer a good experience to everyone. However, as small mom and pop rental we cannot offer the turnaround time that larger agencies may be able to provide late at night. Again, we are confident in our offering and know that we will have many families in the future that thank us for allowing them to experience a western Montana lakefront home at a reasonable cost. We rented the property 22 times this year on various platforms. We would have liked to have 100% of our guests report that they had a great (not perfect, but great) stay, but this year we achieved 95.5%. The Nolte family was the 4.5% we were not able to satisfy. Mr. Nolte rented our home for seven nights at approximately $175/night. His budget was for a single room at a holiday inn, but his expectations was for a suite at the four season. That just isn't feasible. Still, this is a waterfront home for $175/night during the time of year he rented from us. This home is not near the lake, it is on the lake. We do not claim to offer a five star property, and again, we certainly do not price it as such. In addition, we are not trying to make a large profit, we are simply trying to generate income for expenses such as property taxes. On the fifth night of their stay, Mr. Note contacted us around 8:00 p.m. and said the water pressure was "up and down". I asked him to check to see if there was a leak. I was unsure if the problem required a plumber or a well specialist. I was unable to get a repair person that late in the evening. I told Mr. Nolte that we would get a repairman in the morning. The next morning, I called a well specialist. The specialist was able to replace a switch in the well and the water pressure was back to normal in the morning. Mr. Nolte decided to leave the rental and get a hotel before the repairman arrived. We simply were notified too late in the evening to get a specialist out to fix the problem. Mr. Nolte checked out and demanded that he receive a full refund. Mr. Nolte stated his hotel expenses were $1,000 and that he was expecting that we provide him a full refund of $1,200. He rented a $500/night hotel room, even though he was only renting our vacation home for $175. We checked hotels in the area, the day he told us he had vacated our rental, and there were many for $250 per night. I asked him to send me copies of the receipts, but he never did. As a result of how impolite Mr. Nolte was in his communication to us, that he stayed five nights before alerting us to any issues, and he didn't allow us 24 hours to get a well specialist out to check on the issue, we decided to provide him a refund of two nights of the amount we received from VRBO.

Foy's Lake House

From the minute I saw the lake view and the large deck overlooking the lake, I knew this was where I would spend my time. The house was comfortable and well equipped for a great vacation. I would like to stay there again.
