About this property

Romantic getaway or family/friend vacation with private beach!

Wake up to beautiful scenery and the serenity of lapping waves, at Seneca Secrets on Seneca Lake, in beautiful upstate New York, 35 minutes outside of Ithaca.

Seneca Secrets is located off of Rt 414, the main road that goes around Seneca Lake, 5 minutes from Watkins Glen. The cabin is located in the heart of the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, overlooking the lake. You can see the lake from our living room, with an amazing view from the deck!

The cottage is completely furnished including dishes, silverware, coffee maker, pots and pans.

Step outside the cottage and enjoy a picnic, a relaxing swim, or take a short drive and minutes away you will find that Seneca Secrets is surrounded by wineries, restaurants, waterfalls and the National Forest, great for biking & hiking. There is also a rustic fire pit for roasting marshmallows.

Seneca Secrets includes a private beach on the property, just follow the stairs down to the water! Please note, the walkway to the beach has uneven shale.

There are 2 docks, down by the water for you to sit and relax, but please note, we do not allow any type of boat/jet ski to be tied up to either one (see Rental Agreement Rules & Policies).

We also offer on-site kayak rentals for $25, please reach out if this is of interest.

We are well off the main road and do have parking for a boat trailer if needed (please ask where to park boat trailer and be good at K Turns).

Seneca Lake offers great swimming, boating, fishing, water sports, sun, and breathtaking sunsets. We are ideally located in the heart of New York State's Finger Lakes, just minutes away from the area's premier vineyards, restaurants and local towns such as Penn Yan, Geneva, or Watkins Glen.

Whether you are looking for a long weekend with family and friends, or a romantic getaway, Seneca Secrets offers a tranquil setting after a day on the water or a quiet retreat after an all-day outing.

Please note, we have a sloping gravel/shale driveway that requires all-wheel or 4WD drive. There are water runoff bumps down our driveway, so you will want to drive under 10 MPH.

We look forward to having you stay at our cabin!

Wonderful cabin on Lake Seneca. The cabin is cute, with two rooms & all that you would require for a break. Amazing location for the wineries & breweries. Would come back again.

Anniversary weekend

The location was everything! The view, seclusion, and proximity to at least a dozen wineries within 5 miles! The bed was comfortable, the shower stall needs repairs ( flimsy & separating) but functional. Negative point is the wood stove for heat. No bueno.

GREAT Family Get-Away!

We really enjoyed the cabin and peaceful atmosphere of the property. Sitting by the lake relaxing was amazing. Close to many great vineyards and hiking (we hiked Treman, Watkins Glen and Taughannock Falls). We are looking forward to coming back again!!

Great waterfront rental for couple or small family

Amazing waterfront cottage. Sunset view over Lake Seneca. My husband and I made great use of the water and the decks. We do not drink wine, found tons of other things to do nearby. This is a small cabin, perfect for a couple. Very private. No visible neighbors. Our small dog (who we kept crated) was happy. The upper deck is good because it is completely fenced in. So when we were on the deck he couldn't wander off. Location is convenient to Watkins Glen, restaurants, state parks and more

Great view on Lake Seneca

A nice place to relax with an amazing Lake Seneca view. Though most of the furniture in the cabin needs to be replaced as it is extremely uncomfortable due to its overused condition.

Perfect lake getaway

We were looking for a quiet nature escape on the lake-and we got it 100%! Rustic cabin in the woods, wit spectacular views of the lake. It gave us the needed remote feeling, yet it’s is perfectly located in the mix of the wine trail (wineries and breweries just up on the main road) and close to Watkins Glen for hiking the trails.

Location and view

This property was at the perfect spot for us on the lake. It was at a great location on the east side of Lake Seneca, close to great wineries and breweries, as well as close enough to Watkins Glen. The photos do not do this place justice as to the beautiful outdoor space both with the deck, pavilion, and waterfront area. It was absolutely gorgeous.

Great stay in comfy cabin.

My fiance, two pups and I had a great stay in this comfy cabin. It was completely secluded and away from the hustle of the city that we are used to, which made it exactly what we were looking for. We loved sitting by the lake, the fresh air, and the calmness of it all. The cabin had everything we needed and was very easy to access/lock up when it was time to leave. Thanks for the great stay!

Great Birthday Weekend

Spent my wife's birthday weekend here. Plenty of room and close to a lot of beautiful wineries. Some reviews I read before going complained about the driveway but we had no problems at all. Not sure way there are speed bumps on a gravel driveway but not a big deal. Enjoyed our stay very much.

Relaxing Vacation

We enjoyed a beautiful week here in July. The weather was perfect! The house offered everything we could want, and was in the perfect location for anything else we needed - sandwich place right around the corner, Walmart down the street, gas stations, and of course wineries! The beachfront property was lovely and private. The view was fantastic also and had a new deck to relax on. The house stayed cool with the ac unit during one of the hottest Julys in a while. We will definitely be looking forward to returning.

Excellent Venue

Cottage and view were beyond expectations. Loved the privacy, ability to walk to the lake's edge, the wide deck area to view the sunsets and how fully stocked the cottage was with everything you might need. Also, thoroughly enjoyed the proximity to Watkins Glenn and the vineyards. One thing in particular was the cleanliness of the place and lack of any mustiness odor. A place to return too and one we would highly recommend and have to others as well. Gene and Susan, June 2023.

seneca lake vacation

My husband and I and our son and his girlfriend stayed at this property in September. We loved the cabin, the location, the lake, and everything about our stay. We had a great time! The only thing that could have been better would have been the weather. But, we still went swimming and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We made a fire in the fire pit one night and had smores. We would definitely love to come back and stay here again. Thank you. The Conklins

We were very pleased with the cottage. There was more than enough pots and pans and kitchen supplies

The cottage was fully stocked with everything we needed for cooking, plates, cutlery, bug spray, shampoo, etc. The view from our cottage was spectacular. Every night we watched the sunset. The finger lakes scenery and national parks were second to none. We explored several waterfalls and toured the area. For motorcycling the area I think it was the best rides we've ever done. We definitely want to go back this fall to see the trees change colour.

Memorial Day Weekend Getaway

The cabin was perfect for four people and we also brought our dog. The description is stated correctly and the pictures are accurate of the cabin.. It was very peaceful and relaxing on the lake. Cabin and decor is very rustic . Beds were not very comfortable would be the only issue we had with our stay. We had no problem with the driveway as stated in some reviews. The cabin was in a good location to explore all the wineries, breweries, waterfalls and the other lakes.

Perfectly peaceful

We found this gem of a property- the perfect size for our family of 4 and 2 pups. The house is as advertised- small but adorably rustic and spotlessly clean- and the deck overlooking the lake is a dream! We spent all the time outside enjoying the deck, the pavilion with the grill, and the lake. The half-mile driveway made it safe for our pups. We could walk into the lake from the shore (not too deep there to do that), which was perfect for swimming and playing with the dogs on hot days. There is a sulfur smell from the bathroom, which is the only negative (and can't be helped). We will stay again!

What a View

We loved the property views. The steps and dock are very new and safe, although, anyone with knee issues or difficulty walking should not rent this cottage. Many steps and steep hill. We had no trouble driving our Honda Civic FWD on the driveway to the cottage. The cottage was very cozy with a great view of the lake from the living area. Could use some decorative touches but overall, a great cottage at the right place and price. Supplied well. Amy, the owner, was delightful and enjoyed talking to her. Thanks, Amy and Marc!

Million dollar view!

The placement of this property on Lake Seneca is PERFECT. Gorgeous views of the lake and shale cliffs are incredible. The cabin was very well equipped for our stay, plentiful extras (ie everyday items). The new deck and dock really sets the scene for serenity & peace. If you are looking for peace, tranquility, and beauty this is your spot. However, the cabin needs updating. Badly. We spent 2 hours upon arrival cleaning (the AC unit was blowing mold/mildew, literally. We had contact with Stacey and informed her and she responded to us swiftly. (Special shout out to her for special accommodation she made for us, too). The unit adjacent was unkept (belonged to another owner) and TONS of poison ivy—caution to kids playing (would not recommend for families with kids under school age for safety reasons. You definitely need AWD/4WD to navigate the winding steep lane (we LOVED the secluded privacy, as the other property was not occupied). Would not be optimal if both units are occupied as there is shared space. We would love to return once the unit is updated!

So much potential for such a beautiful place to stay.

This cabin was in a great location, had a great view, & it has lots of potential but until some simple improvements are made we would look for other places to stay next time. Pros: Beautiful view, fully stocked kitchen, plenty of wood for wood stove & decent AC. The description of driveway let us know it would be a bit rough & we expected as much. Easy instructions for check in/out. Cons: Not very clean, kitchen floors were not mopped prior to our stay, stained carpets, pests, although mostly to be expected in the woods, there was a dead ROACH in the bathroom, roach droppings on toaster (we have pictures), & constant centipedes/crickets inside cabin without ever having left the door open. Tiny Shower/Water Heater, if you have to space your showers out, so there is hot water for everyone. WiFi was non existent. We realized calling the owner would be pointless as the problem was the setup (1 slow internet service w/3 cabins using a range extender). After staying at 15+ AirBnB’s/VRBO’s, this was the first time we were EVER required to clean the entire rental & then also charged a cleaning fee. We joked that we would have cleaned the linens if it meant we could get a cleaning fee back. I read responses to other reviews about this & owner said cleaning fee was to “stock clean linens & have toiletries/coffee” There was Suave 2in1 & some lotion, no coffee or other items to warrant this fee, again, we would have washed the linens since that was just $5 at the laundry mat instead. Suggestions: Update bathmats, decor, remove stained/old carpets, clean baseboards, & windows. A few $$ could make this place feel fresher, cleaner, & maybe warrant the $$ charged. Update shower, consider better water heater/change settings. Get faster internet/don’t split one slow internet between the 3 far apart cabins. Or just nix the WiFi, then people will not expect it, especially when guests have to “limit to only one device & only check email” anyways. We needed internet for work one day and ended up using our phone’s data to do so. Grate the road, fill problem areas (like near first cabins) &/or use pipes to divert the water run off. The only thing we weren’t required to clean was the towels & sheets! Either remove the bathroom/cleaning requirements or reduce your cleaning fee cost. Ensure that the place is actually clean before renting it out.

Wondedful location!

This property has an amazing location! Just a couple and our dog. Tons of wineries and close to downtown Watkins Glen that has any stores you might need. Close to the national forrest to go for a hike if you would like. The driveway needs a 4WD vehicle. Rustic cabin with comfy matress. A good walk to the private lake acess but worth the view. Our favorite part is the deck has built in gates so we could have our d/AWD

Why they chose this property

The first time we saw this property, it was dead of winter and we had to walk down the 3/4 mile long driveway, as the road was a foot deep in snow. As we walked down, we fell in love with the privacy of the property. When we came around the final bend of the road, we just stopped and couldn't believe how it gave us such a beautiful view of the lake. We loved the cottages and beach area and knew that day, we found our home.
