About this property
Grandpa's Cabin: Rustic authenticity one block from downtown.
Pet Friendly!
First things first: If you are looking for square corners, and sterile luxury, we recommend you look at other options in Lake City. That said, if your idea of the mountains is to percolate coffee, fry some fish on cast iron, and relax dad-style in an old-school easy chair in front of an honest fire, this is the place for you. If you're thinking about Lake City in the winter, we list this on "the other site" from NOV-APR. It's a long story :)
Constructed in 1948, this home is full of memories. We kept the soul—you’ll find imperfect floors and history on the walls—but we have upgraded the actual living experience a good deal. We kept the old school character and added a bit of Scandinavian alpine inspiration. The house comes with robust Wi-Fi, Bluetooth speakers, and a Smart TV as well, in case you need to plug in for a minute or two.
You are blocks from Gold Medal fly fishing on the Lake Fork and minutes from Lake San Cristobal for paddle boarding or casting from the shore. Trailheads in town will get you up to 12,000' before you know it, and you're a short drive to the five 14ers.
Downtown's dining, town park and ice cream(!) is one block away. No driving required after a long day on the trail. Enjoy your meal and a leisurely stroll home, or cook dinner in the vintage kitchen.
Sleeping Arrangements
- Main Bedroom: Queen size bed for two.
- The Viking Bunk Room: Handmade Norwegian bunk beds. Kids young and old are going to want to arm wrestle for these.
- The Loft: A cozy double bed for overflow or private sleeping (hint: it's the coziest spot in the cabin).

Fun original cabin, filled with a quirky collection of mountain antiques, with as good as a location as you can get in Lake City. Perfect for a family or a group of close friends. Tons of games, movies, and a well equipped kitchen. Svetlana was a great and communicative host. We would be thrilled to return.
In the best spot. Everything was in walking distance and right by the loop trail. Enjoyed every minute of it. Looking forward to another trip there in the future
The Cabin was Awesome, had everything we needed, it gave us a homey feeling the moment we walked through the door, all the great shops are in walking distance along with great coffee shops,The Host of the Cabin are Awesome! We are looking forward to staying there again on our next trip back to Lake City, Co.We had a wonderful time and didn’t want to leave.
Great cabin to stay in! It was perfect for our family for this vacation. If you like history, this is the place for you! Only wish there was a book with a detailed history of the cabin. We spent some time trying to figure out how the original cabin was compared to now. Thank you for preserving a piece of Lake City history!

Hello!
A bit late response, but I was going through reviews and decided to chime in.
The original cabin from the eighteen hundreds got burned down in the fortees. The chimney is all that remained. Existing cabin was built at the end of 40s and layout basically did not change since then. Unfortunately there are no known records of the original cabin.
I hope that helps.

My husband and I stayed here with our 3 kids! We all enjoyed our time immensely! The kids loved the games and book selection. Our hosts were so kind and helpful! Next trip back to Lake City we will definitely stay here again!

Thank you, Liz! We'll be happy to have you here again!

It was a fun stay. Rustic is correct. Because it’s an old cabin located in town, there might be limitations to what the owner’s can do and remodel. There was no screens on the window.Overall it was a great stay and I recommend

We so enjoyed our stay in the is adorable, nostalgic cabin. We loved the old, rustic decor and was so much fun staying here than in a hotel. Having our host, Svetlana across the street was great and she was so helpful and friendly and it was great meeting her.

Communicative host and excellent and very unique property in the heart of Lake City and definitely would stay here again. Stayed here with my girlfriend and some friends last minute to go climb Uncompaghre peak.
We arrange an annual ice climbing trip to Lake City every winter and this was our third year. We loved staying at this property. It is right in the middle of town and only a short 15 min walk from the ice park. The place has so much quirky character and we all felt like we were going back in time. Thanks so much for a great stay !
