About this property

Watch the Boats Go By at Mariner’s Rest. A Wonderful Waterfront Family Home

Mariner's Rest is the perfect place to create family memories at the Oregon Coast. Fantastic water views overlooking the entry to Tillamook Bay and out to the ocean. Located 4 miles south of Rockaway Beach, Oregon. Enjoy the nautical vibes of this extensively remodeled beach cottage, now our large family home. Walk to the Three Graces and Barview Tidal pools. Try your hand crabbing at Kelley's or the Jetty Fishery nearby. Explore Garibaldi, Manzanita, Tillamook, Cannon Beach and beyond!
This is our family beach house that we use often and are still actively working on to improve. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do! The house is well stocked and we invite you to cook up a storm if desired or enjoy nearby restaurants.
The Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad goes right by the house and kids of all ages enjoy waving as it passes! It only travels during the day and seasonally.
We have 5 bedrooms on three floors so everyone can spread out. There are quite a few stairs so keep that in mind if it could be an issue. There is a bathroom on each floor (The downstairs toilet has a pump motor which will one day be remodeled but for now it is a bit loud).
The sunroom is an amazing space to sit and watch the water, play a game, or read. We think it is the best room in the house.
Lots of parking available, including boats/RV. You cannot sleep in the RV parked per the county rules but room to park is available.
We are on Hwy 101 so there is road noise. Some people don't notice it, others have had issues sleeping. Bring some ear plugs if you think you may need them. FYI- it is a 3 level house with many stairs. 10 stairs lead up to main entry and one set of interior stairs is curvy. It is waterfront and there is a semi consistent foghorn on the end of the jetty at the ocean that you can hear.
The Coast Guard often practices right in front of the house. Keep your eyes peeled and you may even see a pod of Orcas!
We did add some exterior only cameras- FYI. One the entrance and one looking towards the side parking/boat.

About the host

Hosted by Peggy McDaniel and Steve Wecks

Host profile image

Peggy and Steve live between Portland, OR and their coastal home, Mariner's Rest. We are adventurers at heart and spend our free time in the outdoors- camping, hiking, fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and more!

Why they chose this property

If you have a larger group (or even a small one with a desire to spread out) our place is perfect. We do not have people stacked on top of each other in bedrooms as we have 5 bedrooms and a bath on each floor- that said, there are a lot of stairs in the home.
Our home is on the jetty located along the entrance to Tillamook Bay and looks straight down the "jaws" of the jetty towards the sea. We enjoy amazing views and even our own viewing platform. Although we are still working on the house to make it even more luxurious it is already receiving rave reviews by family and renters. We can also accommodate boat or RV parking.
Our home is a short walk to the Three Graces Tidepools, and a bit longer walk to the beach (south tip of Rockaway Beach).

What makes this property unique

Steve is an avid hunter-gatherer! We have a seafood prep station outside with hot and cold running water and provide the use of a crab cooker. The Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad goes by our house during the summer and holidays and kids of all ages enjoy waving. It only runs during the day. We have plenty of room for RV or boat parking. Perfect for large families or groups. Our sunroom is the place to be! 10 skylights overhead and large windows to enjoy the views.
We are on Hwy 101 so there is road noise.
We also have long term tenants in a totally separate space above the garage. You will share laundry area but they do not have access to the house (locked door from house to laundry). We have wanted to help with local housing so we made sure to have a workforce housing opportunity available as well as sharing our home through Short Term sites. Thanks for staying with us!!
