Thanks Don. The cabin is on the North side of Pine Cove but it's only about 5 minutes from town and we frequently call in dinner orders from La Casita or Arriba's (yes we like Mexican food) to get take out rather than taking our 3 and 6 year old kids out. They are happy to stay at the cabin and have dinner, there's plenty to keep them busy without having to leave!

Thanks Chad. The deck makes the cabin, and the new deck bar is my favorite!
The house is large and beautiful. It is well equipped with kitchen tools, board games, table space, and more. Everything was perfect for our party of 8 including 4 kids. Highly recommend.
We had a small group get together for our children to play and enjoy the snow. The house is impeccably outfitted, owners could not be kinder and more accommodating, and the overall experience couldn’t be better. We loved every moment of our brief vacation and look forward to being back time and again. Thank you Mark.

Not a big snow year this season, glad you got to enjoy snow. It makes it a little more special when the kids (and adults) can play in the snow!

Breathtaking!!
My family chose this place based on the great pictures, price and the location of this cabin. Upon arrival we were in awe of how beautiful this place really is, pictures don't do justice. Everything was exactly what was described and more. We traveled from another state and the fact that the cabin had everything from pots and pans, to towels and blankets made our trip easier and more enjoyable. The owners seem like outstanding people and are extremely helpful. They kept In touch with us and we're available to answer any questions we had. If we could rate it higher, we would. We will be staying here again for sure!

I know what you mean, the pictures don't do it justice. We actually cut down a few trees and made firewood out of them, so the view is even better! Glad you enjoyed your stay.
We very much enjoyed our time at the Hilltop Cabin. We were 8 adults and one two-year old (he gets a lot of attention). The accommodations were great. We were all comfortable (3 in the bunk room). There's plenty of room to be together or get away.
The kitchen was well stocked with equipment, we cooked nearly all our meals and were able to find everything we needed.
The property is very private, with no immediate neighbors, and generally pretty quiet. The highway is nearby, but wasn't really obtrusive.
Unfortunately the valley was pretty hazy during our trip, but I imagine the view is stunning when it's clear.
Overall we had a great week and definitely recommend the property.

Great family vacation!
We had such a wonderful stay at the log cabin. Our family of 5 with 3 under age 6 had plenty of room and really enjoyed exploring the property. Our kids loved the swing set and the tire swing and having adventures on all of the boulders. They also loved the bunk bed room, which had comfortable beds and was well stocked with kids books. My husband and I loved being able to tell them to go play outside (and knowing they'd be safe). We also loved the spacious master bedroom, which has an incredible view and a fire place. The kitchen is perfectly stocked. Seriously. We have stayed in a lot of rental homes, and they always seem to be missing something! But the log cabin had everything we needed, and then some.
Pictures do not do this place justice. It is so serene and comfortable! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Tina, glad you had fun. The tire swing is a new addition, our kids don't actually enjoy it that much which was disappointing but glad to hear our guests are enjoying it. They prefer the swing set and adventuring around the loop around the property.
The place was very spacious, clean, and well stocked for cooking needs as well as activities for families and kids. The large dining area was generous for our group, as well as the living room. The window in there was worth the trip alone! We saw a beautiful sunset and got a surprise of fresh snow. The kids loved it!
There was a piano to try out, and the game table with many choices of games to choose from.
It was a cold few days but the heat was very adequate to keep us warm and toasty.
The layout is great, we loved the wood details! The owner was kind enough to send the plow to shovel the snow on the road to help is get out for the day.
The grill on the patio was huge so cooking for our group was ideal and quick!
The owner was easy to communicate with and quick to respond too. If there was an issue, he tried to work it out.
We will definitely come back, it was super and the kids genuinely had a wonderful time making menories together. Many thanks Mark!

Reunion with friends
My husband, myself and 10 of our friends stayed here for the weekend and had a wonderful time. We also had two 12 year old boys that never peeped one time that they were bored and that right there tells you there was enough for them at the cabin to keep them busy. The cabin was clean, comfortable and very well stocked with kitchen needs. The views are out of this world and the fire pit was a big bonus because it was quite cool. We were there when the navy set off that missile and boy did we have a front row view! It was spectacular and eerie since we knew nothing about it going up. The tram up the mountain at the San Jacinto park was very cool too, we did some short hikes that had snow and that was a bonus for my husband and I coming from Florida! The only complaint that we had was that we had to leave!! Thank you Mark for being so gracious and available! Oh and do read the arrival and departure instructions so that you don't have to take a cold shower!! Oops!

Glad you enjoyed yourselves and even had some snow! We go up every month so keep the kitchen stocked up with all the gear to make some great family dinners.
I have some friends that stay at the cabin with older teenage kids and thought they might get bored but I think kids love to be outdoors and feel adventurous they keep asking to come up.
The perfect way to get closer to nature while maintaining the comforts of home. The cabin is great for big families or large groups who want a beautiful mountain getaway. The property has a lot of room for activities and gorgeous views. From making s’mores around the fire pit, to putting together puzzles and playing games in the family room, to watching the sunset from the deck—- my family had a lovely time. Would definitely stay here again!
Plenty of beds, very clean, easy to find, and easy to relax in! Perfect place for our annual family meetup. The kids played outdoors together for hours every day, plenty of beds for everyone. Facilities are very high quality. Had so much fun!
Beautiful home that had everything you could possible need. Gorgeous property. Contacted the owner with a question and was promptly replied to. I would rent this home again. Thank you. This was the best giralfriends weekend.
The cabin is very welcoming, clean, and well maintained. It has everything you need for a great vacation and they make the check-in and check-out process very easy. The view is absolutely breathtaking. The property is large with plenty of space for a large group to enjoy themselves.
This is the third time our family of four has stayed in Mark's amazing home. It is always super clean and well-stocked and so homey. We were only able to stay for two nights, but we got in some sledding on their awesome back hill, s'mores around the fire pit and lots of rounds of Pictionary. The views are to die for and all the furniture is super comfortable. We will be back again for sure!
Our second stay at this rare, large and well appointed cabin less than 10 minutes from town. We wanted to introduce our close friends to Idyllwild and knew this would be perfect. And so it was. I daresay we will be back again.
Just got back home from a WONDERFUL stay at the cabin! The property is beautiful, peaceful and private! The kitchen handled everything we could throw at it. The kids loved exploring the property and, as my daughter stated, "extreme rock hopping"! We've rented cabins around the Idylwild-Pine Cove area but were frequently disappointed about the lack of privacy (so many cabins stacked so close to each other) but not this place! Lastly, the view is jaw-dropping! Watching the sun set each night was one of the highlights of the trip.
We celebrated a family member’s 50th birthday at the cabin. The cabin was everything we hoped it would be and gave us a place to create great memories. We are already planning to return!
Very clean, accommodating, and spacious property. High quality and well-provided cabin amenities, kept children ranging from toddlers to teenagers entertained and very happy. The views from property are beyond spectacular. Mark and family, thank you so much, we hope to enjoy again soon!
This place is amazing. Lots of outdoor space for games. Nice fire pit area with a beautiful backdrop of the mountains, trees, and city below. Our group really enjoyed our stay.
A beautiful home with amazing views! This place has everything you could need and more. It is the perfect size for two families with kids (the bunk room is awesome!), spotlessly clean, with comfortable beds, a cozy fireplace and lots of indoor and outdoor space.
Mark was very responsive when we had questions, and we can't wait to go back again someday.
This is the fourth time we've visited the property and truly enjoyed our stay. While close to LA basis it feels like its miles away. The views are great and the kitchen is outfitted for group cooking. I highly recommend a visit.

About the host
Hosted by Mark S Tettenburn
We are a family of four from San Diego who have always wanted a cabin in the mountains to call our own. We have two little girls who love to run and play outside and whom we look forward to raising to love the outdoors as we do. We enjoy the small town feel of Idyllwild and love to hike and play in the snow. We look forward to sharing our vacation home and this great 'on the hill' experience with others!
Why they chose this property
This log cabin was previously owned by a family who raised their children for over 20 years in Idyllwild. It was their home and very cherished and well cared for. We were honored to buy it from them and have a place for our little girls to enjoy and grow up going to as well. It is a spacious log home with a huge property to run, play, and hike on. There are breathtaking western views and it is in close proximity to town with a far-away feel.
What makes this property unique
We provide many amenities, including full kitchen supplies for cooking family dinners. We also offer two KING bedrooms, which is a rare find on the hill.
