Relaxing weekend getaway

The place was great. It was clean, well organized, comfortable and had everything we needed. One cannot ask for a better property as it was so pretty to be right on the river.

Wish Our Stay Was Longer

Hidden gem. Quiet. Pretty river flowing by and peaceful trees everywhere. Cute cabin stocked with everything we needed but our food. Highly recommended.

Perfect for a quick weekend.

My partner and I stayed here for a weekend while I was running a trail race. It was perfect for what we needed, beds seemed like memory foam and overall comfortable. Kitchen was functional in order to make some meals. There were a number of lady bugs/beetles inside but nothing that bothered us. It was easy to navigate to via GPS, Wi-Fi was fast and reliable and many channels to watch for those chill nights. We didn't spend much time there but there was a fire pit and plenty of seating outside for enjoyment by the river! If we are ever in the area, would definitely stay again.

Quick weekend.

We really enjoyed our stay. When walking we met several people on the street everyone was super nice. The river was perfect. We were able to sit on the dock and put our toes in. We kept waiting for the rough roads mentioned in a previous post. They do not exist. All roads were paved. No potholes. Very nice for small town Midwest.

Cottage on the River

It was ok as hotels in Black River Falls not highly rated. Remote if that is a feature you want. Driving on rural rough roads. View of river was very nice. 2 Adjacent houses were close so this might be a consideration in warm months. Instructions for using gas fireplace & floor heat would be useful. It was cool & rainy during my stay. Layout of cottage good. Beds very comfortable. some matching glassware & more than one wine glass should be stocked. Kitchen utensils mostly odds & ends. Functional pans, tableware etc. owls at night were great!

Disappointed

The pictures of the property were misleading. The charming decor was nonexistent. The bed linens were old and worn. The cabin apparently hadn’t been cleaned after the last guests. We did wipeout the refrigerator and sweep the floors. On closer inspection we decided it would take some serious cleaning. We decided not to stay at all. We left and rented a hotel room instead. The property manager said he would make it right by us. Sadly, we haven’t heard from him since. Nor has he answered or returned any of our calls.

Not as Expected!

First impression was to be of the picture on VRBO, it was not. No pretty lights, no decor, no seating by river, no hammocks. Neighbor complained of wood fire every day we were there. Inside needs a lot of cleaning... mice everywhere. Droppings in every cabinet and utensil drawers. Utensils were cleaned first night & day we used but was useless. Went & bought throw away plates & utensils, napkins etc. Also have a grill w/no grilling utensils so had to buy those. We had Kleenex boxes out (1 in living room, bedroom & bathroom and the mice destroyed everyone) Our dog was barking & very protective as he could hear them all over. I have contacted the owner during the stay & no return email until weeks after the stay. Overall, the river behind the house was relaxing.

Check-in was very easy; owner allowed us to check-in early which was very appreciated! The kitchen had everything we looked for. Our only issue was the property info said there was a gas grill available but there was not. So, we brought our steak home with us and went out to dinner which we hadn't planned on.

Some minor details have us taking away one star, but those details would not deter us from returning or recommending it. Absolutely wonderful location. Only a 15 min scenic road ride to the ATV trails. The property is a gem and the owner was very friendly and responsive with the few questions we had. Really enjoyed our time there!

Wonderful fishing place

If you want to relax and spend time with nature, that's the place to go. Very nice view with easy access to river. We had a great weekend fishing.

Hidden Gem

We were in area to attend our son's wedding and it was close to the venue and the perfect spot to get away from all the activities and relax a bit. enjoyed the river view and perfect spot for morning coffee!

Cozy Cottage

We loved the quiet location of this riverfront cottage. It was clean, cozy and close to town. The cottage is a great place to slow down and enjoy the sounds of nature.
