About this property

Cozy Cabin in the woods - Perfect spot off Jackson Co. trails

(*off-season October-May)
Welcome to our cabin tucked away on 50 acres of mixed woods interspersed with riding/walking leisure trails. One mile from Jackson County State ATV/Snowmobile trails with access via ATV road routes. Minutes from downtown Black River Falls, Lake Wazee Rec Park, Robinson creek & numerous fishing areas!

After a day of adventures (or relaxation), you'll want to gather around the fire pit while counting the numerous stars and hearing the coyotes sing in the distance. You might even hear a wolf howl or an Elk bugle?!

We have 3 bedrooms that sleep a total of 9 adults. In the master bedroom, there is a queen bed and a private bathroom with a shower. Bedrooms 1 and 2 both have a bunk bed with a double on the bottom and a single on the top. Bedroom 1 has a pull-out trundle bed. Bedroom 2 has a toddler mattress and a pack-and-play available. Bedroom 2 also has a stack washer/dryer as well.

The family room has a full wall of windows to enjoy the pine views and let in an ample amount of sunshine throughout the day. There is a large sectional with an ottoman, an antenna TV that gets all the local channels and a DVD/Blue Ray player with a DVD collection. There is also a variety of games.

The Kitchen has a full-sized refrigerator, electric stove/oven, and microwave. We also have the basics for cooking your own meals. (pots, pans, utensils, bowls, plates & silverware.) We just ask that you clean and return anything you use. **Full disclosure, we do have well water and the iron content is more prevalent in this area so sometimes the water isn't super clear. We do have a water filter otherwise bottled water might be a good idea. We have never had an issue or any problems with the well water.

Outside we have a fire pit, lawn chairs, a picnic table, and a gas grill available. Please cover the woodpile and return the chairs when you are done so we can keep everything dry. We do have a large pole shed that we keep locked up as we have items in there that we want to keep secure.

Feel free to explore the trails whether you are walking, biking, snowshoeing or skiing. We ask our ATV guests to refrain from riding on our trails other than at slower speeds. We don't want our trails to get torn up and we want to keep people safe on our property. The boundary lines are marked so please be mindful of those. You may ride your ATV's directly to the Jackson Co. trails which are a mile away down both Dodge road and Oak Ridge road. Our roads are ATV posted so there is no need to trailer your ATV's. Jackson Co. has some fantastic trails and they connect all the way up to Clark Co. so you can ride until your heart is full!! (Or your butt is sore ;-)

We are nestled on the south loop of the Jackson Co. ATV trail system. a 1-mile drive down dodge road to the west takes you to one trail entrance, a 1-mile drive down Oak Ridge Road to the north takes you to another trail entrance. You can also go further down Dodge road to Robinson Creek where there are beautiful cliffs and rushing waters. Grab a couple of lawn chairs and a cooler and sit in the spring-fed creek on a hot day to cool off. You can also kayak/canoe the creek or venture to the Black River for a nice paddle as well. We have numerous trails throughout the 50 acres that you can explore. You will find various species of Pine, Oak, Maple, Poplar, and Birch trees. Blue Jays and the Karner Blue Butterflies are common. We often see deer, turkey, porcupines, and an occasional fisher wander through.

We are about 10 mins from downtown Black River Falls where you can stroll through the picturesque downtown. Sand Creek Brewery has tours and a tasting room or visit a number of quaint bar & grills in the area. Black River Falls is also home to the FIelds of Honor Veterans Memorial near the Dam. You can also see the Native American influence by driving east to the Andrew Blackhawk Pow Wow grounds. You can also visit the Ho-Chunk Casino in the same area as well.

In the summer you can find a beach at Lee Lake, Lake Wazee Co. park, or enjoy the Hoffman aquatics center in Black River Falls. The park also has a large playground, skate park, and sledding hill.

You can visit the Lunda Community Center where they have an indoor aquatics park, fitness center, basketball courts, indoor golf simulator, racquetball, and a rock climbing wall.

Every season has its unique charm in this area. We have found it to be a fantastic getaway and we enjoy learning new things about the area each year.

We hope you enjoy the relaxing pocket of the woods we have here. Adventure on!!

Favorite Hideaway
Fourth time here. It looks like we'll be coming here at least once, maybe a couple of times each year as long as we (Dad and two sons) can all get our schedules to agree.

Beautiful place but needs some TLC
Overall a great place to unplug from technology. There is no Wi-Fi, no cell reception loved that. Beautiful place but needs a little TLC. Quickly know that if you have a big/large enclosed trailer be careful upon pulling up the drive the branches hung low enough it scratched and dented in our trailer (we arrived at night) I was told there was enough room to turn around in and I might need to back the trailer in. We turned into the drive up by the house and the trees caved in the side of our trailer again it was dark and is our fault for not making sure it would clear. In the day light leaving we had no choice but to have the branches scrape our trailer. You will make the drive if you have a smaller vehicle not a 1 ton dually. Also, the house was very musty if you have asthma and allergies beware my husband had a very hard time breathing. We opened the few windows we could to allow it to air out and turned the ac on. All in all beautiful scenery. Easy access to the UTV/ATV trails.

Trails on property
We tried to ride some of the trails that are on the property, however a few of them were to narrow for our side by side and a couple of them had full grown trees down across the trails so we had to turn around and go back the way we came.

Pleasantly Surprised!
This is a great place for a family get-away. Our family consisted of 6 adults and 5 kids (ages 5-14). The owners are very accommodating and have thought of everything needed for a comfortable place to stay. We hauled a John Deere Gator, a 4-wheeler, and bikes for the kids. We planned to rent ATV's in area for an afternoon of family fun, but decided the trails provided on this property were enough for the older kids to satisfy their desire to 'ride'. The Gator worked well to take the younger kids through the trees/trails. The bikes were used to 'hit the hills' close to the property but harder to take the bikes on the trails due to sandy/loose soil. They could have biked more in paved areas close to the property, too. The cabin was cozy with enough room for our bunch. Kitchen was well supplied with dishes, silverware, pot/pans, etc. I brought my own skillet to make pancakes but everything else we needed was there. Pleasantly surprised by newness of appliances and outdoor grill. Place was clean. No funky odors. After a hard day of playing, kids would snuggle down on the huge couch and watch a DVD before falling asleep. There was a huge selection of DVD's. Game boards and other toys. The place itself was surrounded in peace with oak trees and pines. The firepit added to the peaceful setting. Grandkids said it's the 'best place ever'. Thank you, thank you, for sharing this Cozy Cabin in the Woods!

About the host

We live in southern WI but have used this cabin as our home away from home for 20 years. It has been in my family for 3 generations and we are excited to provide your family with the opportunity to make some great memories and have stories to tell for years to come.

Why they chose this property

This cabin was built by my great uncle in 1984 and has been in my family since 2000. It was originally a Christmas tree farm which explains the wide variety of pine trees on the property. We have had this property before our kids were born and they have grown up with this land as part of their life. With the kids getting older and more active we felt it was a great opportunity to open up our little get-away to others. It got it's name "Hidden Moose Acres" from a family member who was convinced we would see moose on the property. This turned into many "moose" themed decorations over the years and since we hadn't seen any moose we determined they must be hiding and so "Hidden Moose Acres" came to be.

This property houses a lot of great memories and we thought it sad to not share it with others while we are in a busier stage of life. We hope you enjoy the seclusion and ambiance of the pine woods and make some lasting memories of your own. Explore the trails, see the sights and make yourself comfortable around a nice fire. We do ask that you be respectful of the people who live in the area and to respect the property as it means a lot to our family.

What makes this property unique

We love this place because there is plenty of room to roam & explore on the property or off. 50 Acres of trails to enjoy. Hang out and enjoy the pine forest, wildlife and fresh air. In the evening enjoy a fire while the stars glow around you and hear coyotes and whippoorwills sing. Explore off the property as we are 1 mile off the Jackson Co. ATV trail system, 2 miles from Robinson Creek, 8 miles from both downtown Black River Falls & Lee Lake in Millston, 13 miles to Lake Wazee and various other fun destinations.
